The amount of people commenting that don’t understand is mind blowing. There is a difference between having a pet horse that you ride in a pasture, and having a partner that you work with. He’s a cowboy, probably in New Mexico although that’s just a guess but wherever they are they have to deal with this type of terrain on a daily basis. They are doing their job and they are good at it. You can’t go around to the path of least resistance if everywhere you go looks like this. Riding to a shallow spot in that gully could take hours, or even days depending on the size of the spread. And by the time you get to the cow or horse your trying to get to they are already dead or long gone. He might be show boating, or trying to sell his ability as a hand or a trainer. Anyway you look at it both he and the horse have what it takes to do the job. And while it may not be part of the job where you or I’m at, it’s definitely part of the job where he is. Hats off to you sir, that’s some good teamwork.
I disagree vehemently! There is no reason for this except for an extreme emergency. The rider could have rode down farther to a less dangerous area. They could have easily hit a boulder under the earth and flipped. I’ve ridden for years since I was 4 years old. Never would I endanger myself or my Horse to save a few minutes. I’ve seen too many Horses hurt permanently or put down due to rider irresponsibility. I’ve also seen men hurt and never the same for the rest of their lives for making stupid choices like this.
lol In some parts of the country its necessary and this horse knew what he was doing and felt comfortable with going down there, which is why the horse chose that spot to descend. What's not right about letting the horse be a horse?
@@shellylee2443 You should watch the old military training films on how the cavalry would do it. Then you also gotta go and watch some footage of what modern horsemen are doing when they are recovering cows who got stuck in a draw somewhere. Just because it isn't necessary for you and your life doesn't mean it isn't necessary and sometimes it truly is the only option. That said, I'm glad you love your horses and always look out for them. I like that attitude.
Ride the horse is not impressive, but the horse is amazing how kept and maintained he's cool, he never lost he's footing and that's why horse are never scared of challenge roads, but if he had flipped he could have broken he's legs
This horse's job is to do this and the ranch can't survive without it. The horse chose that spot because it felt comfortable going down there, when you do maneuvers like this you let the horse determine the exact spot and he can veto if he doesn't find one.
So does this man but his horse's job is to navigate this terrain and he's putting his life and livelihood in his horse's hooves because he knows he can trust him. His and his family's lives depend on this horse, of course he loves him, he just also trusts him to do a hard job like a professional.
@@Casper-GhostHe’s risking the horse’s life to score points with idiots on the internet. If that horse broke its legs going down that embankment he would have had to put it down. There is no reason for people to be clout chasing like this.
@@katherineowl8172 lol he isn't clout chasing; ranch horses like this one have to go down embankments like this as a part of their daily routine. He isn't forcing the horse to do something dangerous, he's trusting the horse to get them both home safely. The horse isn't the only one in danger if something goes wrong, they're both accepting the risk. The whole reason that horse was bred and raised was because it can do things like this when an ATV can't, and they need to traverse terrain like this just to survive as a ranch.
@@Casper-Ghost They absolutely do not “have” to go down embankments like that on a daily basis. Take a look at comments from other horse owners here and stop living in some sort of Wild West fantasy.
Yeah but this is a job where that is often necessary, that's why he's on a horse and not an ATV in the first place. Its not showboating at all. The horse here isn't a simple possession or pet but a co-worker whose job is to navigate rough terrain like this and the rider is placing a ton of trust in him to find a spot they can get down safely so they both get home safe.
All these comments complaining when they don’t realize wild horses do this ALL THE TIME. Yet alone that horse wouldn’t have done this if they didn’t want to. This comment section is a perfect example of people getting offended when they don’t even know what’s going on.
Animals live longer in captivity for a reason. A wild horse typically only lives to around 15 years. Whereas captive horses live typically 25-30 years. We have a responsibility to watch out for our animals and not put them in unsafe situations. Leg injuries are relatively common in horses and sometimes there’s no fixing it. Some leg injuries are so bad the horses are put down. Why risk that? Horses are known to go until they break for the satisfaction of their owners. You are the one who is complaining when you don’t know what’s going on. People are concerned for a reason and horse owners are concerned for a reason. Just because your horse can do something doesn’t mean it should.
I have seen a few videos like this on youtube. Unfortunately it seems to becoming a competition among "macho stupid" guys willing to sacrifice their horse's health to satisfy their own egos.
Fun fact : In 1858, The "Rani of Jhansi" jumped from a height of 200+ ft. of the Jhansi fort on her horse "chetak" with her adopted son tied to her back with a cloth escaping the british troops at night , such a brave woman India will never forget. She died fighting the british forces at the age of 29. "here lay the woman who was the only man among the rebels" were the words of general hugh rose who led the british troops . This dude was legit scared of her. I recommend ya'all to watch the film about her "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi"

Believe me when I tell you, this horse and rider are both very experienced in these situations. The rider knows his horses skill level, plus knows that the ground he is leading his horse down is soft dirt and sand with a little bit of stones, so the horse just slides down the decline like a g reat horse dose. And his rider even know how he's supposed to lean back as they start down. I've been riding horses my whole life. Used to break Mustangs in AZ at 16 years old. They are strong and hardy animals that do this type of stuff every day. Anyways cowboy and horse have a safe a beautiful day.
@colezy1998 Why be negative, I grew up on a working ranch in Santa Cruz, Ca. We had several canyons and a steep topography. If anyone is familiar with that region, the rocky part is Shell Rock. I never ran my horse down the steep slopes, be we did ride down. My horses were trained, working ranch horses, and we worked cattle. Black Angus and Long Horn Cross. Again, why negative... I'll have you, know, not one time were my horses ever injured . I was just adding my experience.

Thanks for your reasonable comment, ppl ARE so romantic about the risks and crying coz of it... But they do not understand this is an important step in building Trust , and getting strong and confident for real danger situations
I have personally witnessed traditional Japanese mounted archery. It changed my view of what kind of creature horse actually is; just what they are capable of, when bred and trained with utmost dedication. Before I witnessed this up close I never understood. Perhaps the most striking is their capability of free will, proudness and temperament. I understood some of them love to work and play hard, just like some humans do. Some are docile, some are friendly. But some of them are brash, some are bold. And working with humans has granted them a meaning, a chance to become something more than in their tameless nature they ever could. And I realized some horses embrace this fact. The top horse of these archers was FIERCE. It was THE high horse people are told to get down of. It was on its hind legs all the time, making commanding noises and a general ruckus out of himself. He didn't allow anyone else ride, except the son of the headmaster - the next sensei. And still they had to quarrel a little bit to settle the fact that they're going down the range/gallery. It was extremely strong, proud and independent individual. Almost as if saying "If you want to go at it human, you better ride like a storm". And my gosh like a storm they went! Galloped with a flair and sway, like testing the rider or just bringing the show, he reaved and tore into the ground with thunderous force, it was like an unstable anomaly that could barely be contained. They were so unexpectedly fast and loud, I got physically flustered by the concussive force of the duo. Even at the end of the range the horse was sure to kick around and show who's the boss. It was a unique creature who understood it's own magnificience, selected it's own rider and did stuff only if it wanted it himself.
I remember seeing the state of all the horses in Hollywood after stunts where they did this with like 40 head... Basically get the shot and then have to put a 44 in a dozen horses because they're broken.
Well done. Horse gotta brain too. He knows what’s his limit. Hat off to the rider. Nice balance and control. Great team work. Hope You taking your buddy to the rodeo in Vegas this December. My opinion. You got yourself a winner!! Safe travels!!
@@gratefulhead2833 Not true, horses have to be specifically trained to be that obedient. Ranch horses like this are trained to refuse if they don't feel comfortable. The rider's life is heavily dependent on the horse's senses and judgement.

Yea right...The cruelty (horse was killed with an axe after injury) observed in that movie actually launched the 'American Humane Society' which now oversees over 100K animals.....so there's that!
The rider did nothing but shift his weight back, which even a novice riders knows. Most equestrian’s care too much for their respective horses, to take an unnecessary risk like that.
It's not impressive to intentionally place your horse in danger. It's the polar opposite of good horsemanship. It's downright stupid and asking for the horse to be injured or killed.
That hill wasn’t falling apart and unstable. It was just steep. But this dude was 100% trying to do that. Also, that scene wasn’t even filmed on a hill. They had the actor leaning super far back in the saddle and they tilted the camera. Same with the other horses. The filmmakers back whenever that movie came out knew better than to actually attempt something like that for real, even with the horses that didn’t have riders because it could potentially cause injury.
Yeah they traverse terrain like that naturally. This rider isn't forcing the horse; the horse knows where they're headed and decided that going down right here was the best spot so that's what he did.
Training. This is a working horse. It's better to make it so the horse knows how to handle itself in this situation calmly and skillfully than is to be caught off guard and have to put down a horse with a broken leg all because you were too cowardly to train alongside what's essentially a partner.

The horse isn't the only one in danger if something goes wrong, they're both accepting the risk.

This is a mustang that was once wild. Completely different than your domestic horses.
All these comments complaining when they don’t realize wild horses do this ALL THE TIME. Yet alone that horse wouldn’t have done this if they didn’t want to. This comment section is a perfect example of people getting offended when they don’t even know what’s going on.
A wild horse doesn't know it will die if it breaks its leg, but the rider damn sure does, and should protect his horse.
A wild horse does not have additional weight in his back
you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, that horse was very comfortable with that
ALL THE TIME? Buddy ALL THE TIME? No, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Believe me when I tell you, this horse and rider are both very experienced in these situations. That horse knew EXACTLY what it was doing
Exactly. Everyone is saying it's cruel and abuse. But that horse is trained to do this and knows what it's doing.
Hell no I wouldn’t ride my horse down that. I don’t have a horse!
