A new series we are going to be trying here on HauteLeMode is reacting to one of TV's biggest fashion shows, which is Say Yes to The Dress, which focuses on the process brides go through to pick out their wedding dresses! I've never watch the show before, but honestly, it actually makes me so happy to see fashion and clothing giving people so much joy!

Consultants: "Is there a budget we should respect?"
Also consultants: "so this dress is *double* the budget-"
Isn't THAT the truth. First time I tried to find a gown, not ONE of the dresses brought into the fitting room was what I said. We're not just talking double, but even triple. I think the 'cheapest' dress they brought was a 'mere' $800 more than my budget. I just remember looking at the woman and refusing to try on the things "But what if it is the perfect dress? You'll always regret not knowing!" No. I regretted walking into the store. If the perfect dress is $800 above my absolute max, it's not the perfect dress. I may be biased though. I would have been cool with jeans and the courthouse, weirdly HE wanted the big wedding. (Maybe not so weird - his dad was an executive chef at a hall and he worked as a part time DJ so he knew the industry. But still. The costs of dresses and the pressure put on people is nutty.)
Well, it is ALOT of expensive fabric.
True, lol. But I think this group usually tries to stay away from the budget drama that David Emmanuel (used to?) employs. Here, I think he was so nervous about it, he warned the dad first lolol.
I didn't watch the whole episode but based on Randy's explanation, it seems like she saw and picked that dress herself

SAME! And its really frustrating because it feels like 90% of the comments don't understand its a sample size so they make ignorant and rude remarks 😩 wish they'd show the actual wedding photos on the show more often
I was wondering if the fit was what turned me off about it. I kept wanting to pull the outside corners a bit...felt like the girls were simultaneously sagging and about to jump out.
I looked online and it seems that she has worn a totally different dress, more on the closed side. And a big hat

casually obsessed yes I watched it too and was rather surprised that Randy brought her dresses twice the budget. I mean, he’s always been against that. Was it because he knew dad would buy it no matter the cost? Hmmm

Some of the women on this programme seriously have NO idea what looks good on them...
We are an art illiterate culture and not taught to see our bodies as beautiful and powerful. And we are conditioned to see brand reaching as a valid substitute for self expression.
Yes and I have to fully disagree with letting your breasts hang out on your wedding. It just looks like a desperate plea for attention. It must be difficult to be short and chubby, because it seems like they have to bare it all to be noticed
@@juliettedemaso7588 I completely agree with you here, but I also think that figuring out a basic shape that flatters your body type isn't that difficult and many people ignore it in order to fit a beauty standard. Cant blame them as we do live in a vain, image obsessed world but at the end of the day you should wear things that suit your body to love it properly.
If I was going to spend that much on a dress I would have at least hired a personal trainer or gotten lypo... there’s not excuse to be that big when you are wealthy
@@alexhallow5119 WHAT? She is not "big", she is straight size with curves. GTFO with your body shaming lipo advice geeeez
some of these girls with $$$ ... their taste hurts me physically
Because sadly money doesn't buy good taste.
Yeah some people buy things just because it’s expensive
Because money is bullshit, and the rich are parasites.
It’s because they only get rich women on this show who are interested in the huge, tacky, over-the-top Pnina Tornai dresses. You never see any bride come in dropping $20,000+ on an elegant, sophisticated dress. That’s because those brides go elsewhere or get their dresses custom made through the designer. Like celebrities. But in America, when you want to act like you have a lot of money and flex, you go for the ugly Pnina Tornai with your boobs out.
@@xotennisxgirlox Yeah, that’s a new money kind of thing.
Old money jackasses try to dress plainly, keep out of the press except to donate money, have really long driveways, and do other similar things because they’ve got generations of experience that spending frivolously and rubbing your wealth in the face of the poor is a good way to get guillotined.
That’s why people like Donald Trump can pretend to be “heroes of the working class” despite coming from such old wealth. Because they act like any dipshit that won the lottery would, with gold toilet seats and diamond-studded tire rims.
You should see how some families react to when the bride wants a dress other than white, there was one bride who wanted a black wedding dress(she looked so much better and happier in it btw) and her mother made her feel so bad about the black dress that she caved and got it in white, the mom realized how badly she hurt her daughter and tried to take back what she said but the damage had been done and her daughter was going with the ‘norm’ of a white dress. It was so so sad
That’s because we associate white with purity even though that isn’t what it what it meant until recent history. We think of a healthy woman with normal sexual activity as worth less or less respectable, so parents need to see that their daughters are still “good girls”. Despite the fact that s*x doesn’t make someone bad or dirty or forever changed. Whether they realize it or not, they are viewing their child throw sexist societal lenses. That or they are disappointed when their child strays from the parents vision of who they are, regardless of the adult child’s happiness.
@@bluegirl278 This!! Parents always make their kids who THEY want their kids to be, causing their kids to get confused or upset and shoved into a mold of the child they aren't just because their parent wanted that.
My dress (100 years ago) was ivory. The white dresses washed me out; when I tried on the ivory dress, it complemented my coloring.

for a dress you will wear once in your life...
Nothing wrong with going cheap but also nothing wrong with spending a lot too. But I agree with it being disrespectful and selfish to ask your parents to spend especially over the budget. I think it’s better to pay yourself anyways, seems like parents tend to think just because they help out financially with the wedding that it’s their wedding lol.
That's my dream,I want to make my own wedding dress
Thats so cool. What did your dress look like?
Leslie M v neck, spaghetti straps, the back was a v too. It was about calf length and off white/cream lace. The bodice and skirt met right at the thinnest part of my waist. yes
It's so unfair.
(and sexist in general)
Yes!!!
I was thinking of this! tbh I myself am somewhat judgemental and I hate that. I personally didn't like how the bust fit her ( It looked too wobbly and not "locked in" enough for my taste) but at the same time, she and other busty women should be able to embrace their natural curves.
Dr Bitchcraft Thank you. I actually agree that a different look might be better, but there is a very strong knee jerk reaction to big boobs. If a slim person wore a nice fitted sweater she'd be wearing a nice fitted sweater. If I wore a nice sweater, I'd be wearing a tight sweater and "looking for attention." Meaning trampy and threatening and pathetic. And sadly, I'd think it would be mostly women who would say that and I can only speculate on the societal mores that cause that. That phrase is generally not used now for green hair or a few piercings, which arguably are more "prominent statement pieces." 😀 I'm also wondering if poor Luke is thinking how the hell did I spark such a discussion on boobs? LOL.
Lisa Nadile its a good topic! I am relatively flat but my sister has H-cups. Even when she was like 12 she had an E-cup and got bullied for being a slut even though she had never even hugged a boy :/ only because her chest was so big and even if she tried to cover up, it was impossible for her to find any clothing of her size. Shes now saving up for breast reduction.

I wouldn’t lol. I would feel so bad spending that much of someone else’s money. I would try to buy something as cheap as possible if someone else is paying.
$16000 for that monstrosity? Imagine having that kind of money to throw away

Money spent on his beloved daughter's wedding dress is NOT money thrown away. Live & let live, jeesh...
@robin mcgregor I agree... ugly dress for that money
I had very little money for the dress ,shoes ,veil , stockings and under garments . I lived in Maine and my parent's lived right outside of D.C. ( McLean ) . My mom when she saw the dress said " I hate it " . My mom new a beginning designer . He redesigned the dress . Then bought beautiful lace that he sowed on the bodice ,hem and train . He bought some pearls and my mom , aunt and myself hand sowed onto the lace . Hours of work for the three of us sowing . Then the man who beautifully remade my dress loaned me undergarments that some of his models wore . My veil was over my face and extended almost the length of the train . What he did for me was amazing . Went way out of his way . My mom loved the dress when it was completed . I was a beautiful bride . I will always be greatful.

She looked lovely except for, as my dentist would refer to her as having 'Toilet Bowl White Teeth'. Normal human teeth are not that white.
Georgia Albert - Smoking Woman - I think is the horrible fake tanning she has. The contrast is just too much. Her teeth look whiter than her white dress 😖
If she kept her natural skin tone it might not look so frighteningly white? Orange and blue are contrasting colors so the two tones are amplifying each other
My dentist told me that your teeth will start looking “fake” once they become whiter than the whites of your eyes.

So apparently the reason people love bling is because the way glitter etc reflects in the light resembles the way water reflects in the light. So it was useful to find "glittery" things appealing back in the day when we needed to look for water in nature. Don't know if this is actually true though :p

OOF I thought those dresses were hideous. It's wild how personal choice is so different from one person to the next.
Agree!
Both poofy dresses were just way over the top and not in a good way. I’m not someone overly modest by any means but the mom(?) was absolutely right- the brides breasts were popping out of both dresses- which is not beautiful or sexy- it looks cheap. I’m all for a sexy elegant dress, but you can do that without risking a nipple popping out :)
I wish Say Yes to the Dress would be honest at the beginning of their show- they clear out the store for the tv segments. In reality, if you shop there, even having an appointment, it is said to be super crowded and small.
Totally agree! They’re horrific.

@@selenachan4230 Same. I hate how people always feel bad for the parents. Like, bro, THEY are the ones who let their kids go on for years and years being spoiled and entitled. They are the ones who didn't teach modesty and the value of money, and that they need to be considerate of other people's expenses. If they can't teach that, and it went on until the day of the wedding, that's sort of the parent's fault. I understand parents wish to give their child everything they want, though it should be in moderation and make sure they deserve it and come out as good people in the end.
I'll admit I was a bit spoiled growing up, though that was because I got good grades and did what I needed to. I proved to them I could handle it and wouldn't go down that track when they gave me stuff. It was a reward to get what I wanted, not just for the hell of it. Parents should be more like mine, who makes sure their child does what is needed and works hard before trying to spoil them.

Edit - Also another thing I never knew I needed, hearing you say “awwwwwwweee she looks gorgeous, this makes me feel so happy”. WAS NOT READY FOR THAT.
So I love you commenting about randy's selling abilities. I think a really great sales person, listens first, and responds second. Sometimes people want to know they are justified in their choices not pressured. So when you let them say I really love it it feels so different. Then you respond and say it's so fantastic it's more understated with less bling and brings out your beauty.
Some people just want that assurance to know their feelings and want to purchase are justified. And when you know it's the one they want you give more assurance.
Exactly. It's a tactic many good salesman do. Listens, reads the body language of the client, and reassures them so they know it is a good choice and fits them. They listen to the client and make sure they are confident instead of pushing it. This is why many good listeners and people who understand body language tend to be in the sales industry.
Luke, I really liked when you got all "philosophical" about fashion. In fact, I think it would be cool to do a vid series where you expound on fashion philosophy. I would totally dig listening to you talk about aesthetics, beauty, logic, ethics, art, design, self-expression (and esteem) , etc. Meaning, not a roast or reaction style vid, but more of a discussion... I think it would be really engaging on a whole other level.

yeah because you aren't the one paying for it
Say Yes To The Dress has always been that one show I pop on TV when I'm feeling down and need a pick-me-up. I'm critical of the brides' selections at first, but seeing how happy they are makes ME so incredibly happy. It's my dopamine.
I've been having a very rough 2020 so far but this video put a huge smile on my face. Thank you, Luke. Keep these reactions coming. 😊
The craziest episode that I remember of Say Yes to the Dress was this client that came with her mother and their budget cap was as the show put it, "unlimited" aka the mother was willing to buy whatever they agreed on no matter the price. Also, the client was requesting for like this SUPER specific silver wedding dress, they had like the picture for it and everything, and she was like super serious about getting it and came to the store in the first place to see if they had that exact silver dress.
She spent over a years worth of my college money on like 3 dresses after since they didn't have the silver dress
I love how supportive you are of women showing off the girls if they want to show off the girls
16,000 dollars is over my parents budget for a car 😭😭😭 much less a dress
i could pay rent in my house for a year with $16,000
Jane Thomas $16000 can buy me a mansion in my country
Hey Listen to my stories hold up where you live 👁👄👁 where I live a middle class house is like 200000-600000 and a mansion is in like the millions👁👄👁
YEP i paid less for my car lol
You gotta watch gok wan from say yes to the dress England. Love his process working with the brides.
OMG SAME WITH THE SHOES! I CANNOT try on anything without having the shoes I would wear with it! It changes everything. Anyway Luv ya!!
"Why is the bling so enticing?"
In my heart of hearts, I am a magpie
HauteLeMode: Bling tacks it up
Me: damn I thought it was the fact her girls are almost falling out...
I just love this crossover. You have such a great way of explaining everything so us non-fashionistas understand.
Omg please watch the one where she wears the black wedding dress
"The homophobia was like a bad thing but it also sometimes worked out" I spit my drink at that moment lmaoooo
"What do we like about the bling?"
Me, yelling at the computer knowing full well I'll not be heard and that he's not asking me: IT'S SHINY.
Yes!! I'm so glad you're judging wedding dresses now. Please check out Dior collection and Miranda Kerr's haute couture Dior wedding dress. The silhouette and cut of that skirt is iconic.
This needs to be a series, so many good say yes to the dress moments to react to
The bling pleases my inner goblin with the fact I get to have something that looks expensive hoarded away in my closet. No one knows I have nice clothes but me.
I was laughing so hard when I heard the dress looked like it had a lobster tail
"I'm okay with the 16k price tag" sis of course YOU'RE okay with it it isn't your wallet??
“Me, on my wedding day when I get my dress” I love that
These guys are masters at conning people. They start off with a dress that’s waaaay over budget and then show off another one that’s still over that person’s budget, but they’re like “at least it’s not that other dress that costs a laughable amount of money!” Genius.
Hey Luke! Fun fact about your remark about why we like bling and shiny things: humans evolved to be naturally attracted to shiny things because we drink water. In nature water sparkles / shines which is why we're attracted to things that shine!
this video was everything i wanted and more omg please make this a series
Oh my god!! I agree with the shoe thing soooo much, I can't buy anything unless I have shoes and a full on outfit on or in mind!
I literally can’t get through this show watching it alone but with your commentary I’m now obsessed. We need more of this series!!!
Love this show, and so excited that he did a video about it!
I LOVE THIS WHOLESOME CONTENT -- I'm so obsessed with Say Yes AND your channel. The combination of the two? MINDBLOWING
"Why is the bling so enticing?"
I mean who the frig DOESN'T love sparkly things? Like it's such a SIMPLE BASIC BISS joy and like I said in the Oscar fashion video...I'm a basic biss for sparkly bling man lol.
Ribotto Studios I hate sparkly things. They’re tacky
Angélica I think a beautiful dress stands on its own and bling is usually just a distraction on a lesser garment
Angélica something about “ bling” with white in particular! just doesn’t work for me
I love that you enjoyed it so much, please do more things like this, your reactions are so cuteee.
god i wish there was a video of you saying skincare ingredients for like 10 minutes, you saying “niacinamide” brought me so much joy
