the modern trend of choosing a colour/style and having the bridesmaids wear different dresses around the theme is SO MUCH BETTER than everyone being identical. The bridal party members can choose a dress in their budget, that suits their body, and the bride likes too. Solves so much potential conflict.

This is what I’m doing. They are the most important and loved women in your life. Why would anyone want them to be unhappy? 😭 i want my bridesmaids to look in the mirror and think they look amazing, beautiful, confident, excited for the day, not ugly, uncomfortable, dreading the idea that they’re having photos taken when they’re not feeling confident and knowing that those photos are going to be on display in peoples houses and on social media and in albums forever. So sad :( I love the idea that all their smiles in my photos will be genuine ♥️

I’m lucky, my sister was adamant that her bridesmaids wear dresses that wouldn’t break our budgets and that we could wear again. She actually found our dresses at DressBarn of all places and I think per person the dress was maybe like $40-$60, it’s been like 5 years I don’t remember. They were tea length, charcoal black, sort of 50’s in that it was a pretty slim waist and then it has the slightly proofed A-line skirt, and it has these beautiful turquoise flowers on it. Her wedding colors were cream, charcoal black, and turquoise so these dresses fit perfectly. Every girl looked good in her dress, I definitely wore mine multiple times later (I haven’t worn it recently, due to putting on weight 😫). My sister was pretty good at having a beautiful wedding on a bit of a budget. She actually made her wedding dress and veil (both our grandma’s were seamstresses so she picked up some skills from them), so she was big into making sure we didn’t break our budgets to have a beautiful wedding.

500 bucks for a bridesmaid dress is outrageous. I spend 20 when I attended my older brothers wedding and it was on sale. Send a few choices to my sister in law and she liked all of them and not a single one of them was over 50 bucks. We only had a color palette though instead of actually having to dress in the same dress. Our body types were way too different for that and so were our skin tones and hair colors. I'm skinny as fuck, my sister in laws sister is a good bit shorter than me and a lot curvier. There was no way in hell to make the same dress work on both of us EVER. In the end we both found something that worked and was flattering to our body types.
Think she only spend around 50 bucks too as she bought her dress secondhand.

If I would celebrate my wedding and invite all my loved ones, with the most important people (besides my husband and family of course) right by my side, I‘d want them to have a good time. Them feeling comfortable and confident and able to enjoy the day with me would be so much more important to me than aesthetic. I‘d rather have a wild, messy and happy wedding than miserable, but aesthetically pleasing guests. It‘s not my day, it’s our day!

As long as they’re not wearing white, who cares? This kind of stuff doesn’t happen everywhere. Also: we call bridesmaids and groomsmen „marriage witnesses“. They can wear whatever they want. We also haven’t always done the bachelor(ette) parties, traditionally, we do polter evenings, which aren’t divided by gender. On this evening, the couple smashes old dishes because shards are supposed to bring luck. This is one of the few things I’m really looking forwards in the future marriages I’m going to attend. Marriage pranks are also quite common in some parts of our country, where the friends of the couple play a little prank on them, usually after the wedding party.

The cultural difference is stark when I see these videos. In our culture, there is no such thing as honorary maid and our wedding are pretty extravagant. Most of the dresses in this show aren't deserving of it's price... like no offense. Super plain, boring, dull. I have brought a detailed, full of beads, peachy dress for 186$. Spending 500$ is almost the price of a bride dress not her bridesmaids.
We also don't have color scheme. Everyone wears within their budget (since they are buying). As long as it doesn't look like the bride dress, you can even wear white (I've once seen friend/family of the bride wearing a two piece white dress). However, it's pretty rare to see someone wear white so I guess everyone avoids it.

She left it up to them and they delivered. My niece told her bridesmaids that she wanted them to wear solid black and they got to chose the dress of their choice since they were all of different sizes. They looked fantastic all in different black dresses. None of them went over board and kept the dresses simple and classy.

To any bride please do not do strapless!! For you or your bridmaids. You spend the whole night hoisting your dress up. Fit will not prevent gravity. Why didnt Brandon say omg I said the wrong color !! This is actually purple.

Traditionally you should have one bridesmaid per 25/30 guests otherwise you might as well have everyone standing by the altar with you! 😂
Also could not imagine asking my friends to chalk up $600 for a dress to wear once... and then think they’re being unreasonable when they don’t want to pay it.

There's 2 types of women: 1. "My bridesmaids are just props." 2. "Having the people i love be an integral part of my wedding day is more important than fulfilling an aesthetic."

The second bride just wanted to disrespect the girls, and she just find the perfect excuse: being the bride.

Where I live the bride pays for the bridesmaids dresses. Like it's not even discussed.
I've been a bridesmaid twice (once for an older female cousin when I was 16, and then for a younger male cousin. I did become good friends with his wife) and both times I had say in the dress, but the bride, obviously, decided what she wanted. Im pretty sure I paid for my own hair and make up though, but I was given basic instructions, up or down, curled or straight hair, natural make up, etc.
You want complete control over how your bridesmaids look? Pay for everything. She probably wouldn't have 15 of them if she was paying though!

I can tell the commenter has never gone through buying a bridesmaids dress that they’ll probably never wear again AND paying to alter it. Then this person goes on to shrug off this reality about people wearing a dress they hate and wearing hair and makeup that doesn’t suit them. It’s so much easier to rent a suit or even wear one you already had and get the accessories because suit colors don’t have a wide range.
