yes!! I've been buying my clothes at thrift stores for years and I've definitely had people assume I have/spend a lot of money because I love thrifting vintage clothing.
My family has bought most of its' clothes from thrift stores since I was young and I just love it. Sure we could afford normal stores but it really isn't as fun! It's great when you find clothing and pieces that haven't been in stores for years or that come from indie/smaller brands or even $$$ brands and it all looks new and is different from what everybody else is wearing. I like that my clothes are "unique" as in if someone asks me "ooh where did you get that?!" I get to answer "I found it from a thrift store". I kid you not, in high school my friends eventually stopped asking me where I got my clothes and what I paid for them because the answer was almost the same every time. Sure I have clothing bought from regular stores and few new $$$ pieces, but those I have either gotten as gifts or bought with saved up money. And thrifting has saved me a lot of money over the years🤩.
Honestly, it's like none of these people even seem to have their own personal style, they just buy whatever some designer tells them they should I guess.
My biggest issue with this closet tour is that you can tell he doesn't respect the pieces inside. I got the impression that he doesn't like clothes, shoes or bags. He likes the clout the name brands give him. I completely understand people who just want to throw on a pair of sweats and see their clothes as utilitarian. What I don't understand is why anyone would buy meticulously designed garments if they don't care about them and are going to just swap them with whatever is trendy next. I got angry When he mocked the people who try to take special care of their expensive shoes, while trying to crease the DiorXNike Sneakers. His whole video lacked class.
I think it's fine to want to take care of your expensive shoes, but I also think it's fine to do what you want with them, including folding them or whatever. I don't think you have an obligation to treat them in any particular way. They're yours, you bought them, you can decide what to do from there. It's when your actions actually affect anyone else that I think the obligation starts.
I dislike how it’s clear he does not care about them, overall. Not just monetary value,he does not care, he just follows the newest fashion trends to get clout and that’s it. No personality whatsoever and for someone that is in the beauty industry, to be wearing sweats... Beauty is pain and I am sorry, but if you are wearing make up like that ans sweats, you lose all credibility.
“If I post an instagram photo or a RUclips video I can’t wear it again.” Princess Diana, the QUEEN of class, wore outfits over and over again, regardless of how many times she’d been seen in public or private wearing it. Take that for what you will…
I'm just going to say, I'm more impressed with someone's style if they can take a statement piece and restyle it many different times than the whole only-wear-things-once "fashion" people
I mean if you wanted to steal more than one piece it would take a lot of time. But one piece is enough to pay rent for a months/years soooo doesn't matter much I guess
I get the sense that James doesn't appreciate fashion, he just looks at it as fun possessions to buy and show off. And I'm not saying you need to have a degree in design to have nice things, but like this man just threw my college tuition on the floor.
I don't comment on things often, but I'm consistently impressed with the amount of work that Luke puts into all of his videos. The historical context, the additional information about house codes and design choices, being able to reference previous works (both fashion and non-fashion items)...James Charles wasn't worth your time, but I appreciate your reaction nonetheless. I have a renewed sense of appreciation for all things fashion and history when I watch a HauteLeMode video, so thank you for that! Hardest working content creator and educator out here!
What makes me crazy is that the “can’t wear the same thing twice” rule isn’t even something people admire anymore. Everyone is so conscious nowadays of fast fashion and its impact on the planet so it looks horrible to be wasting clothes like this. But our celebrity landscape is based on hate and controversy not respect anymore so in a fucked up way he’s doing it right and just… UGH.

something about him throwing his expensive designer Birkin on the FLOOR really rubbed me the wrong way...especially considering it's $20,000. i was taught to respect my items, no matter how much money you have or how expensive it is.
Same, I have leather purses that are much cheaper then that and I clean and condition them at least twice a year and make sure they rarely sit on the floor unless its super clean. I would never drop it on the floor like that on purpose :(
That really made me cringe. The whole tour was looking for validation - I have a Birkin! But I don’t love it! I’ll drop it if you want me to! Super pick me energy.

The way he is wearing that hoodie to obviously try to be a “cool and edgy fashionista” bc he’s doing a closet tour is INSPIRING ACTUAL RAGE WOTHIN ME. He is the definition of “I’m not like other girls”
Do you not think the creator of this video is the definition of “I’m not like other girls though”? It’s giving I’m better than you because I appreciate fashion more. And what? James brings really good energy and if he’s lacking in the fashion department so be it. This clown who posted this video is giving judgmental boomer vibes.
Ok I can explain the sweatshirt "thing". In the 90's-early 2000's us Black folks & some Hip-Hop artists wore our shirts like this. In high school I remember my boyfriend always doing this, dudes playin pick up games etc. So it's another thing copied to look "cool" when you just end up looking ridiculous. Great video btw❣️
He sounds like this is the only thing in his mind and is doing this to impress who? People like this, no matter how expensive their wardrobe is, turn me off.
@@JutaStokes honestly I hope he has them sewn in now that people know about them because even tho I don't like him I don't want some of those pieces to fall into the wrong hands. Actually maybe they would be better off not with James look at what he did to that birkin
James Charles: "I don't understand how sneakerheads buy expensive sneakers and keep them in a box" Also James Charles: "I go through my closet every 3 months and get rid of everything I've worn more than twice"
The utter disdain seeping out of every pore on Luke’s body before the tour even began…I thought it couldn’t get any worse but the longer the video went on, the more I felt like we were going to witness him spontaneously combust. This was a true sacrifice you made, Luke. I’m glad I at least learned some interesting fashion tidbits in between James Charles’ frenzied babbling.
James charles is literally that girl who buys everything instagram recommends and then quotes it back at you as if “didn’t you see my new post?” no girl we don’t care it’s already irrelevant. SHE HAS NO STYLE!
I feel like neither the shes nor the hes want to claim him. None of the pronouns apply. Maybe we just refer to him as this/thing so as not to offend anyone.
Money can't buy you style. He went from wearing Balenciaga track suits every day to sweatshirts and pants every day. I would pay big money to see you personally give him a makeover and elevate his style.
I’m a mom of three young girls. On particularly hard days, when my husband gets home, I lock myself in my bedroom and binge Hautelemode. Thank you Luke. You are my escape.
I have zero fashion sense/style but I love your videos bc of the depth of history and context you bring to the pieces and brands and collections shown. From the runway to these closet tours-I always learn a little and love it!
O my god you pronounced van gogh almost perfectly. You got the g sound at the end. I dont think i’ve ever heard that from an english speaker. Wel done Im gonna watch the rest of the video now
Lol watching you barely hold it together was the best. I think your eyes fully rolled back into your head at one stage. Keep it up. Sitting here in New Zealand on my back porch in the sun wondering why as a 60 year old woman I am amused by all of this. Love your work!
"You can only wear something once" is unsustainable nonsense. Wear your clothes until they're falling apart or sell them so they don't just end up in a landfill. The hyperconsumerism oozes from James' pores and it's, frankly, fucking gross.
Absolutely. I will never throw away a piece of clothing unless it's beyond saving and even then I might turn it into a rag or eyeglasses cleaning cloth
I respect Jacki Aina for the fact that she has her own style. She looked amazing in her Met Gala debut. She’s a beauty brand but she matches her outfits and wigs to her elevated makeup looks. She doesn’t just plop on trendy merch like most influencers. Sometimes she incorporates her Nigerian background into her styles. We love a unique queen.
Im 11 months late but i wanna say.. okay om a dancer and when i go to classes, soooo many dancers try to pull the 1 shoulder hoodie.... i have allllllways hated it. Your distaste for it made me feel so validated lol
If there was one word I would use to describe James Charles’s style it would be TACKY. It’s interesting how all these popular RUclips influencers have stylists, yet some of them have the worst style 🙃💯
The double bag trend of the early 2010s does not seed a resurgence. If I see a mini fendi bag hanging on a bigger fendi bag I’m throwing James in a tree.
I literally still have a few pieces that I scored from TJMaxx in MIDDLE SCHOOL! I’m fuming at his wasteful approach to clothing, I mean he was problem bc of other things but this too?! How icky can one person be?! 😡🤢
I recently decided to actually put effort in my looks since I love clothes but felt self-conscious about being overdressed. But with that I saw that many of my friends who frequently bought clothes just had too many they didn't use and would resell their "old" clothes all the time. And I was just like "wait should I do that? Theses clothes still fit me, I still like them and they're perfectly wearable. But should I just resell them so I could buy new ones?" When you call yourself a "fashion lover" there's such a pressure to renew your closet it's insane
@@jackyyrag 😅 I was 5’10” by 6th grade & stopped growing (thank god) I was like “well I’m getting stared at bc I’m a foot taller than everyone, might as well give ‘em some fashion!” 🤣
Really appreciated this video. I like how you pointed out the lack of love and passion that influencers have for high fashion (and fashion in general). For them its always about what's trending and likable by a large majority of people and less about individual style.
The whole video is like “here’s my closet, let me tell you about me and how “iconic” i am”. 😂😂 as a fashion lover I am genuinely confused how someone can have no personal style and have a closet full of social media outfits. 😂😂😂 like what even was this??? Anyways love you though, your videos are always the best, i respect you for getting through it.
As a French I love when foreigners try to pronounce French brand names, as long as you do the effort to try the correct pronunciation I won't judge if it's perfect or not But the jacquemoo got me like 😂
This was a beautiful disaster. I am not a James Charles fan and I just loved Luke's comments and reactions the whole time. It made me laugh so much because James Charles thinks he is still relevant and Luke is basically everyone. So great and funny.
The entire time I imagined both of them being sat next to each other at a dinner table and James asking: "Oh, so you are into fashion too?" I would seriously pay to watch that unfold. Hahaha
Something about purposefully damaging and dropping and being careless with expensive luxury items in your mansion closet full of clothes you wore once feels incredibly dystopian
OY. This was even worse than I expected. Who actually gets so excited about having that many sweatsuits? And only wearing something once? The clothes were bad, the bags were bad, and the shoes were bad (I really don’t get the Nike collaborations with big name fashion brands - I know there’s the status and collector aspect, but are they actually that much better quality than regular Nikes considering the price?). Also, James seems totally unaware about the CEO of New Balance being a big Trump supporter and contributed. You know, someone committed to taking away LGBTQIA-2S rights. Blech. I was so happy when the tour was over. Luke’s expressions said it all.
Someone's PERSONAL opinions, beliefs and views has nothing to do with the quality of a brand or the product. Look at Chanel! People still buy it because they love it. Not everything is that black and white, buddy! It's highly juvenile to not allow yourself to buy something because of a PERSONAL view someone from the brand holds. Why don't people boycott animal testing more?! That's a REAL cause that actually makes SENSE
@@eveningstar8581 It isn’t at all juvenile to spend your money in a manner that supports your own moral and ethical values. No merchant is entitled to my money.
@@eveningstar8581 it’s more than the head of New Balance’s personal views - in this case, he’s contributed directly to Trump’s campaign and other very conservative endeavors with earnings from, say, his company. Thus, NB consumers’ money is supporting those endeavors. I was pointing out the irony of what James Charles stands for and what he’s purchased. It’s just my opinion and nobody else needs to share it. Also, there’s no reason to YELL and I’m definitely not your buddy.
aaahhhh i'm going insane "i'm just not a birkin girl" then WHY. did. you. BUY ONE. mr charles???? were you not aware that it's an option to simply not buy a birkin??? was someone holding a gun to your head??? blackmailing you?? using your family as hostages?? those crocodile babies are dead now because of you james anyway great video. i empathized with all of your facial expressions throughout
The jumper, I can’t…. This closet tour screams “I think I’m fashion forward but in actual fact I don’t really know what that means and can’t be bothered to research the answer” I think we all had the same facial expression as Luke while watching…. Don’t even start me on dropping 20k bag like a play toy whist stating it’s in the collection / valuable closet. Congratulations on actually sitting through this Luke with commentary. I’m here for the low key sass!!
This is just depressing. James doesn't even discuss the pieces or what he likes to pair them with, or talk about his favorite fashion houses or lines. It would have felt much more rounded out. He just talks about *himself* in context to every item. Every item is "a Balenciaga", not "this black bag is the hourglass bag from Balenciaga", noting any details like stitching, buckles, chains or straps, nothing. He takes very few things actually down and shows the camera. He believes he is doing enough by simply pointing. Also, its clear that James is not a person who enjoys reading. One of the reasons we ALL enjoy Luke's channel is because of his patient, measured descriptions of different clothing items, using different adjectives to describe pieces. This deftness with vocabulary and love of using words to paint a picture, usually comes from an individual who enjoys books and reading, as they, like the authors they read, learn to "show" people with their words. James Charles uses the same words over and over to describe completely different things. It makes everything he says monotonous and repetitive. Feeling the need to post the price of anything on the screen is really gauche. I won't lie, I jumped for joy when established fashion houses began incorporating streetwear into their collections. I'm a sucker for it and spend most of my life in it. But as a result of that there's a way to cultivate a small collection of that type of clothing that's exciting.
the best part of the entire video is the damn laugh outta the sheer boredom - literally haven't ever seen this amount of just "meh bleh yeah" outta one of these videos from you haha
It speaks volumes that his only relationship with his clothes are the instagram pictures he wore them in and not anything related to the brand itself or the design…
Regarding his 'clearing out every 3 months': I wonder how you run through clothing like that and don't get attached to pieces. If you love fashion, surely you buy pieces for a reason, and then how do you just... get rid of them? I have statement pieces that I adore because they're garish and unique and I love the challenge of restyling them, rewearing is part of the joy! And then I have 'basics' that I love and wear to death because maybe its just a simple black long sleeve undershirt, but that simple black long sleeve is the softest, most comfortable, perfect universal piece that fits my weird short arms and has a neckline that I really like, etc. I'm trying to imagine how you can love fashion and not have a connection to your clothes.
There's only one thing I thought of when reading the title: Get her, Jade *malicious smile* PS: I love that Luke's library is constantly expanding, we love a literate icon
😁😁😁 I read this comment and rewound back to the beginning to see if I could make out James' rolls because that line cannot be said without acknowledging some backrolls
James Charles looks literally like the classical Instagram famous person that doesn’t really have a personal taste and it’s just buying expensive things because everyone else has it! Ps THANK YOU LUKE FOR PRONOUNCING “BOTTEGA VENETA” IN THE RIGHT WAY 🙏🏻🇮🇹

@@harleymuhameti6697 I wouldn’t be caught dead defending a pedophile but you do you ig.
James Charles is proof of how money really CANNOT buy you style. Or a personality
He sounds like this is the only thing in his mind and is doing this to impress who? People like this, no matter how expensive their wardrobe is, turn me off.
"I think I am bored of life, but this is not helping" is my mood nowadays... Courage Luke!!
❤🔥❤
How nice of him to tell prospective burglars to remove the air tags...
My first thought was that any sensible burglar would immediately check for air tags. It's not like they're sewn into the lining or anything.
@@JutaStokes I have been thinking the same thing
@@JutaStokes honestly I hope he has them sewn in now that people know about them because even tho I don't like him I don't want some of those pieces to fall into the wrong hands. Actually maybe they would be better off not with James look at what he did to that birkin
James Charles: "I don't understand how sneakerheads buy expensive sneakers and keep them in a box"
Also James Charles: "I go through my closet every 3 months and get rid of everything I've worn more than twice"
I was just thinking this😭 he comes across as the type that wears anything that is trendy rather than having a individual personal style
I feel like neither the shes nor the hes want to claim him. None of the pronouns apply. Maybe we just refer to him as this/thing so as not to offend anyone.
@@jeffbiddle1956 I think we all can agree on this/thing! 👾

Money can't buy you style. He went from wearing Balenciaga track suits every day to sweatshirts and pants every day. I would pay big money to see you personally give him a makeover and elevate his style.
@@laurac9453 exactly. I wouldn't want to submit Luke to being near James

James has the style “sense” that he deserves
he doesn’t need his style elevated , he needs to be in jail for talking to minors , but that’s a whole other conversation ig.
I’m a mom of three young girls. On particularly hard days, when my husband gets home, I lock myself in my bedroom and binge Hautelemode. Thank you Luke. You are my escape.

I do too! But I do it in the bathroom lol! I do my nighttime skincare routine and escape! Sigh...it's glorious!

3.42 minutes in and Im DYING 😅😂😂
Your face and TONE this whole video. MADE MY DAY!! 👏 👏
thanks for doing this despite how painful it was.. hahahaha
Also I can not get over how James apparently thinks not putting his arm through one sleeve of a hoodie is cute.
Mabye he has a sun burn and it's at the point were it is hot and cold at the same time.
😂😂😂😂😂
It could've been cool if he cut one sleeve for an off-centered look🤷🏽♀️
I have zero fashion sense/style but I love your videos bc of the depth of history and context you bring to the pieces and brands and collections shown. From the runway to these closet tours-I always learn a little and love it!
I'm sure you have some fashion sense if you're here lol
Luke's eyerolling gives me so much life on this rainy Friday. Bless you and your mastery of sardonic observations.
The fact that James Charles has still a platform is a tragedy itself. The bad style just ads to it.
O my god you pronounced van gogh almost perfectly. You got the g sound at the end. I dont think i’ve ever heard that from an english speaker. Wel done
Im gonna watch the rest of the video now
I love how „done” Luke is with James but just remains chill. I couldn’t.
Haha 😭
Honestly living, laughing and loving Luke's facial expressions.
All that shade with just facial expressions. I thought he showed remarkable restraint, god knows I wouldn’t have been able to keep it together.
@@scorpiomoon2535 it was the whispering for me …
Lol watching you barely hold it together was the best.
Also literally no one cares if he repeats an outfit so his logic even further doesn’t make sense
He wears his face everyday, he should also change it everyday.
Absolutely. I will never throw away a piece of clothing unless it's beyond saving and even then I might turn it into a rag or eyeglasses cleaning cloth
Don't even sell them because once they are I sold, they usually DO end up in landfill. Better to buy less. Simple.
What is with his skin texture and color?
There’s nothing organic about his closet-, literally every RUclips person, influencer whatever you want to* call them, has the same look.
But but but he wore the sweater different... Iconic some (or only one) would say.
"I loooove wearing sweatpants haha I love comfort ya know ??"
Yea he seems so lost
If there was one word I would use to describe James Charles’s style it would be TACKY. It’s interesting how all these popular RUclips influencers have stylists, yet some of them have the worst style 🙃💯
TACKY TACKY TACKY! It's beyond gross. I had honestly completely forgotten about him til now. We all deserve better than James Charles.
Well, there's also stylists with a tacky style. Fitting to im.👀
I don't understand how anyone would need a stylist to dress like James Charles.
That's not fair, the word TACKY has more style than him 😆😅
@@Holbol124 omg??
The double bag trend of the early 2010s does not seed a resurgence. If I see a mini fendi bag hanging on a bigger fendi bag I’m throwing James in a tree.
I wish I knew half as much about fashion and fashion history as you do! I would take the class. Love the channel and your analysis.
The low-voiced roasting had me rolling.🤣🤣🤣
Even Jeffree Star could talk more about his clothes, history, collections... James just don't care and use it as a gadet in YT films...
I honestly feel like Jeffree really does have interest and knowledge into fashion and brands.
“Idk if I have fatigue from life or if this is just boring me” no, I think this tour is just boring😭
Bahahaha 🤣
nothing like being shouted at about sweatshirts for 20 minutes... would drain the life out of me too lmaooo

also, that birkin is 100% not a 35! LOL!!!
He’s what now? 🤣 apparently he is running SO fast!
Thank you! I was like: "are my eyes deceiving me?" He literally has no idea what he owns, someone else chose it and styled it for him.

Really appreciated this video. I like how you pointed out the lack of love and passion that influencers have for high fashion (and fashion in general). For them its always about what's trending and likable by a large majority of people and less about individual style.
Omg, Luke’s face is everything 😂
He says so much with those pretty, full eyebrows.

The whole video is like “here’s my closet, let me tell you about me and how “iconic” i am”. 😂😂 as a fashion lover I am genuinely confused how someone can have no personal style and have a closet full of social media outfits. 😂😂😂 like what even was this??? As a French I love when foreigners try to pronounce French brand names, as long as you do the effort to try the correct pronunciation I won't judge if it's perfect or not
But the jacquemoo got me like 😂
The title may as well have been "These are all the things I have worn once". Except for the sneakers at 14:23 which genuinely show wear.
Him saying 'rare items' while opening the most underwhelming looking Ikea ass cabinet I can't-
This was a beautiful disaster. I am not a James Charles fan and I just loved Luke's comments and reactions the whole time. It made me laugh so much because James Charles thinks he is still relevant and Luke is basically everyone. So great and funny.
The entire time I imagined both of them being sat next to each other at a dinner table and James asking: "Oh, so you are into fashion too?"

The way you had no chill in this video had me hollering.
And there was Gisele who did a 'What's in my Bag?' with a vintage Chanel that she's had for 15 years!
@@rouxtouxb the point I am making is how much people will overlook! Yet have a fit over a political scenario. Kind of stupid and juvenile.
Congratulations on actually sitting through this Luke with commentary. I’m here for the low key sass!!
If Kate Middleton can wear an outfit over an over again I am sure any RUclipsr can as well. *roll eyes*
James Charles asking people to educate him on how to pronounce a word on a written comment section just shows you how much he cares about it 😆
This is just depressing.
You didn’t have to speak. Simply watching your facial expressions reacting to this would have been enough😂😂😂
So if I steal james Charles’ bags, I just need to throw out the Air tag, right?
Lmao yup
He even showed you wear it was
Regarding his 'clearing out every 3 months': I wonder how you run through clothing like that and don't get attached to pieces.
Yess, I strongly agree~
Your educated and critical disdain with the side eye is giving me life!
