I've decided that this atty has been repeatedly questioning the witnesses with the same question over and over because she actually IS/WAS expecting a different answer. I believe AH's version of everything is exaggerated or embellished. Had the atty known what actually happened in the doc's office with the muffins, she likely wouldn't have even remarked on them. BUT, the version AH told her atty was probably more in line with the questioning. She likely said, "The doc told me her husband got the muffins specifically for me." Even the best legal minds can't be effective unless the client is truthful.
not only that, officers are not doctors or therapists. it is out of their scope to ask why someone is crying after a domestic call (duh), check their face closely for bruising or force someone to file a report. the person she called on isnt there, she has multiple friends with her, she's safe and fully able to tell them she was injured if she wanted to.
Her attorneys are so disrespectful to almost every single person they address. Unacceptable.

To be fair, according to the domestic violence laws, it is his job to take pictures as evidence even if there is not a crime,it is a standard procedure that he didn't follow.

This is standard for defense attorneys. How do think said attorneys operate when they know their client isn't innocent? You just don't see the ins and outs of such cases very often. How do you think OJ got off in his case? Cochran made the jury doubt everything they seen and heard, and called into question how the evidence was obtained. That's how you defend guilty people. She's clearly a garbage human, so the evidence will condemn her; so the attorney tried to disqualify all of said evidence with reasonable doubt, to obfuscate and confuse. Standard procedure here

It is hearsay, but if the opposing counsel doesn't object, then it's fair game. JD's lawyers had no reason to object because the way Amber's lawyers were talking down to a police officer made her look bad and disrespectful, so why stop her from looking bad to the jury.

Fun fact that Johnny has so many people wanting to testify for him. His friends supporting him, his ex-wife and ex-fiancé both spoke out about him not ever being abusive to them and supporting him openly. Yet, not a single person has come out to stand for Amber and her accusations. Her own mother didn't even want to back her up. Her staff worker testified against her. Her co-star Jason Mamoa following JD. It speaks volumes when your own family and friends don't want to come and testify for you, just saying.

This whole line of questioning was ridiculous. People know that the cops don't show up to coddle people. They got a call, they showed up and everyone refused to talk to them. Expecting the cops to repeatedly ask "are you ok" is ridiculous. The lawyers pulled the same stunt with her ex-assistant - "so you didn't ask her if she was alright? oh so you don't even care about her"? I recently had an accident at home and called for an ambulance. The police showed up and stayed throughout until we left for the hospital. Not once did they ask about my emotional status. I guess I should be upset about that 🙄.
I wish Johnny's lawyers focused more emphasis on the fact the cops have seen hundreds of DV cases before.

This lawyer is so outrageous with her questioning. Insinuating that people didn't don't their job correctly just because they can't find any evidence of DV. It's disgusting. She does the same thing with every professional she has questioned, how is she even allowed to do that? How is she allowed to insult a witness?
That's what defence attorneys do. I've been cross examined in court many, many times (professional witness) and it's one of the most unpleasant experiences you can have. When the evidence supporting the defence case is weak, you attack the credibility, professionalism and reliability of the witness. For police officers, you attack their processes and policies to try to locate a point at which the police haven't followed policy and try to make them out to have failed to do their job properly, thereby it casts doubt on all police evidence. It happens literally every day in every court in the land.
That being said, the defence need to be careful not to come across as too hostile to witnesses, in case it makes the jury dislike them. Court is merely theatre and a popularity contest, after all.
That’s what defense lawyers do when they’re plenty of evidence against their client, because they don’t have other options really

It's a standard tactic when the lawyer's side is losing. Attempt to discredit the witness. Unfortunate for them, when they do so with *every single witness* it only makes them look desperate. It's obvious to everyone watching this trial, which also means it's obvious to the jury. I'm surprised how bad the defense is. I guess we'll see when they get to call their own witnesses.

When they asked what year it was I said I couldn’t recall etc. Going on long tangents on walks in the park and what I had for breakfast etc etc.
Her last questions sounded like she was threathning his carrer! Absolutely pathetic legal team, I really Hope Johnny wins this case. Also I hope no cops help or serve this lawyer...she sounds to have no respect for officers.

The rest of the movie is about the trial, and it's awesome bc the lawyer is supposedly bad. The lawyer is played by Joe Peschi and his wife is Marisa Tomei. They are both from a northern state and Joe Peschi's lawyer has to stumble around and learn how the court system works in the small town.

IMO Amber's lawyer is helping Johnny by having the witnesses repeatedly answer questions that help his case.

Her job is to try to convince the jury of an idea. Unfortunately it takes asking questions which will lead the witnesses to say things which can sound accusatory against Johnny or in favour of Amber.
You can see the same happening when they ask a witness if they remmeber what was said in a previous trial by another person, so that they can, through asking questiuons, indirectly make what another person said also be mentioned during this trial.
She is trying to get at "you didn't do your job so you failed to prove that Depp was an abuser and keep a track record" .. but if the instances both were "all that happened here was an argument and that's not a crime so we aren't going to take pics etc for documentation bc well... there's no crime here" yet Amber's lawyer acts like "you should have anyway". That's what is bothering me. I'm like "do you not understand there was no crime committed so no, no pics were taken of the scene nor the people?"
They want to discredit JD's witnesses so the jury questions the validity of the evidence they swear to.

I can understand the police officer's frustration. He answered the call and, despite the people present refusing to give him any information about what happened and who was involved, he conducted a protection sweep and insured that no injuries or property damage had been sustained. The police also returned again to reaffirm the situation. Now, he has to sit and listen to a lawyer imply that he neglected his duties by not recording the people and location despite there being no indication that a crime had occurred.

A clapback might seem satisfying in your head, but its not professional, an emotional outburst is how you lose face in a court room (even if you are technically right). What he shouldve done is exactly what he did; be calm and answer truthfully, let the lawyer dig their own hole and watch your truths knock down their house of cards built on lies.
The female attorney’s final questions were basically a legal attempt to threaten or blackmail the officer. What a piece of crap. If he’s done something wrong, just report him and don’t let a crooked cop stay on the force. The willingness to gamble with the safety of other innocent (or even guilty) lives for a win in court is the exact quality that makes that attorney unfit to be considered a human being.

Their aim is to create doubt. In a civil case you don’t need a unanimous verdict only majority to reach a decision, so the defence has to create as much doubt in the jury.

I'm for Depp and do believe that he's been treated completely unfairly but don't undermine the judges impartiality based on her allowing a question you don't agree with, especially if there's no objection since judges rarely interject on their own motion, they do sometimes but it isn't expected. The sickeningness of their treatment of the officers, however, will not play well with the jurors.
