Excellent video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just replaced the brake lines and ignition switch in my 10 year old Mule, which has run like a champ with minimal preventive maintenance. One thing I’m really glad I did first was pressure wash everything before starting the disassembly process. While watching your video my mind kept thinking “he should have pressure washed that thing first LOL”.
Thank you!! I was trying to do it without it being connected to the Transmission. I did use that tool on the front brake drums and couldn't get a decent bite. So I will try again!!
@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 oh no I didn't haha. I'll have to rewatch it. You got any tips for the front brake drums? Mine in the front don't have any lip to grab on with those pullers. Unless they make some with razor thin grips.
David, I;m working on a 550 where exactly was your vin number stamped? and it looks like your axle seal on rear drivers side is shot/leaking. Mine is exactly like yours all gummed up with oil, but rear passenger side is dry as a bone. Did you end up replacing the seal?
The first video in the series shows where i found my vin number. I did not notice the rear axle seal, but I don’t doubt that it needs replacing! Ran it at deer camp all year without ill effect. Current issue is a constant squeaking/screeching from drivetrain. I think it’s maybe primary clutch and/or belt.
I took my drum off my kawasaki mule to replace the axle boot. But now the drum won't go back on. It goes on the shaft teeth about 1/4" then stops. As if something is stopping it from going all the way on. Its not the breaks touching the drum. I think it has something to due with the teeth on the axle shaft. What is weird, i tried putting the drum on backwards and it goes on smoothly until the lug nut bolts touch the breaks. But when I try put it on the correct way, it doesn't go on . Any idea?
Is the axle shaft keyed? I don’t remember. Is it possible that the key hasn’t been removed or is broken? I’ll watch the video again to refresh myself and get back to you.
@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 yes they are keyed. I watched a video and I saw that guy having hard time putting the drum back on too, so he unscrewed and disconnected the support sway bar and then he was able to put the drum back. Although I havnt tried it yet, since the sway bar is under tension i think it is causing the axle to not be perfectly centered where the bearing seats and resulting the drum from not going on.
Gotcha. That seems really strange to me, though, in your case because the drum would slide just fine in reverse. I know you said it’s not the brakes, but are you sure that you used a flat head screwdriver or something similar to reset the adjusters to the furthest out position?
You dont pump the brakes with the valve open!!! With the valve CLOSED..pump the brakes 3 times, HOLD THE BRAKE, open the valve and follow the brake pedal to the floor. Do not let off the brake until the valve is closed or you suck air back in the lines. Holy crap

Man, I know. Live and learn, I guess!

No problem! Thanks for the motivation! Did you hear the “shout out” to you?

I used those same pullers on the front, John. Sorry i can’t be of more help.
@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 damn. Okay I'll give it another go
I just bought something for a Willys Jeep called a Universal Hub Puller. That might work?
Need a couple more beers to make that bleed job go smooth.
Good video man
Thanks!

This was great until your drunk friend pumped the brakes
Right! Sometimes, I just have to let em go with it, knowing that i’ll come back later with my wife and bleed them the way that i want to!

Exactly! I agree with you 100%.
