  • A shoplifting suspect is dead after a shooting unfolded from a chase in Pineville and Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Pineville Police Department, Captain Corey Copley, said officers were called to a Food Lion along Johnston Road around 3 p.m. for the reported shoplifting. An off-duty sergeant who was in uniform encountered the suspect and tried to stop them, but the suspect resisted. This led to a physical fight between the sergeant and the suspect, according to Copley.
However, Copley said the suspect was able to get away and ran across Johnston Road to the Berkshire Place apartment complex. Copley said another fight ensued in the parking lot, which then led to gunfire.

So basically an unarmed man was shot?

  • @EileenAdkins

A shoplifter omg pretty petty crime to be killed for. The man was probably out of work and needed to feed his family

Bottom line... Follow directions of authority and nobody ever got killed.
