Signs of value:
1. Somebody does not want to change you
(Respect and no control)

(Gentle and not judgemental)
3. You are priority in somebodys life
(You are not a second-fill)

My ex partner was very protective, he was projecting a very "real man" image, but after 7 years of relationship I saw his real face, of a lier, a manipulator, an actor that was playing for the public, he was a very covert narcissist. He was very controling with me and saying "I love You and I want the Best for You, trust me and do as I am telling, I am 10 years older and I know life better than You, I am protecting You, not controling".
The Man who loves You must be protective with your feelings too, must care about your well being and value the trust your are giving tot him, not use it for his interest.

My notes from the video:
-They accept you for who you are and you don't feel like they want you to be someone else or act in a way that is inauthentic to you (didn’t have this). Especially if they’re very pushy and controlling in trying to change you. They don’t let you lead your own development but they want to lead it (bad sign on both sides).
If you need someone to change, you set firm boundaries and standards and you can give some guidance, but you don’t lead it for them or take responsibility that should be theirs. You should be less invested if they aren’t what you need, not future fake yourself or idealize what isn’t working.
-They treat everyone as an equal and with kindness.
-They make you a priority and take equal responsibility for the relationship. They make the necessary sacrifices to be there.
-They don’t insult you or cause you to suffer. They have self control in arguments. They aren’t extremely reactive. They don’t want to harm the relationship and they don’t want to be a harmful person. They take responsibility for themselves and their issues, rather than taking it out on you.
-They support you and want to help you. “When someone values you, they don’t want you to have to do it on your own.” They want to be there for you. They want to help you with your burdens. **** “A strong woman needs a strong man who is capable of supporting what she is doing.”
-They do not do things they know cause you harm. They don’t cheat, lie etc. They take responsibility for being a good person and for their flaws. They don’t put them on others.
-They always listen and make time for you. They care about your thoughts and what you’re going through.
-They care about protecting you. They don’t want you to go through difficulty. They don’t want you to face things alone.**** They don’t want to get ahead at your expense. They want you to be safe.
Stephanie is a badass. Truly she’s the friend and mom we never had! Personally she’s been with me through so much. So grateful to have a woman like her sharing her head and heart!
No one ever taught me to be conscious and intentional about my relationships. I think I was just grateful that someone wanted to date me, hire me, or be my friend. And once connected, I thought I had to keep things smooth and the other person happy. I had my share of controlling/bad relationships and the ones where I was investing a lot more than the other. What's less clear and more challenging is letting go of the mediocre relationships, the ones where there's really no point or value to the relationship. I've recently dropped out of Bunco, Book Club and Lunch groups where I was spending time, money and energy without advancing my life. Selfish? Maybe, if my motive is self-serving. But not if I genuinely am redirecting myself to fulfilling a better purpose for my life. What does anyone else think?
Hi! 😃 I Don't see your Separating Yourself from Anything (this time its this Lunch Group) that Doesn't Lift You Up & Encourage Your Best Self, which helps you Thrive & Grow, as Self Serving. I see "Self Serving" as something someone does for themselves that shows a lack of concern or regard for others in the sense that when you make a decision & it effects them in some derogatory way -- or puts them in a lower place than you. Like say, you make a decision that boosts you but leaves them in not as good of a position as they were in, kind of thing. (I'm Having a Hard Time Explaining That! 🤪)
ANYWAY.... Your taking a good look at where & with whom you spend your time, seeing it as not rewarding, fulfilling etc... & it as a place that's not a Good Fit for Yourself to Flourish, Is a Form of Self Care. I'm Proud of You For Recognizing What You Need & Having Courage To Extract Yourself From An Unfulfilling Situation. That Opens Up More Space in Your Life To Bring In Uplifting Positive People & Just That Alone Will Help You Grow! You Can't Underestimate The Power of Positiveness!!! Being in a Place where You're Surrounded with Positive People, Will Bring You More Joy & You'll Naturally Be Encouraged To Go For The Things You Long For In Your Life!!! That Type of People Will Be Your Cheerleaders & In Times of Hardship, They'll Be a Source of Comfort. I say, By ALL MEANS Make This Change & That In Doing So, It's Very Much a Form of Self Care. No one Knows You & What You Need More Than You & Making Positive Changes Is A Healthy Thing To Do. We don't need others Approval to Make Changes in Our Lives That Are More Fulfilling & Uplifting. Some Situations Are ONLY For A Season Or A Reason. Its Okay To Move On. Moving on & making a Better Life For Yourself Is An Awesome Thing! You Don't Have The Responsibility To Make Sure They Understand & Accept The Healthy Decisions You're Making For Yourself. I started to listen to this video to check if my ex-girlfriend valued me. Halfway through the video, I found myself wondering if I valued her. I thought I did. On some of points it was a yes while others seemed to be no. Thankful for the self check.

This is a great idea to strive for, however none of us is perfect. No one is always going to be willing or able to be there for us no matter what. That doesn't mean that person is unhealthy or its not a good relationship. Realistically we can do our part to be a good partner,, but understand others will let us down at times.

As long as I'm willing to make changes to support my partner and our relationship, it's MY journey too, and it's not my job to do it on someone else's schedule or to do it exactly the way they would or did. I spent two years of my life trying to please a partner with narcissistic tendencies without realizing what was going on and that it's, in the end, impossible.

with the malignant npd ex I divorced I was always hurt and let down as I made the constant mistake of always holding out hope and setting expectations that he would at the very least possess basic values..reciprocate respect ..value , honor, prioritize , and feel secure that he was protecting , looking out for, and had loyalty to not only me but my children.
There was absolutely no regard for hurting others,sensitivity ,empathy,
self reflection, or accountability for his actions.
Relationships with him are conditional, transactional and without boundaries….
dictated and coercively controlled by him, played by only his ever changing rules.
As he lives his lack of a moral compass ,selfish ,cowardly ,malevolent lifestyle

I had a bit of an epiphany this morning. My father is the original wound. I know that now. I would never capitulate to his assessment of me, because I knew it was incorrect, and I knew I would never be enough in his eyes. so I had to be enough in my own eyes, which is a long way of saying My father put the target on my back, but dealing with him also gave me the necessary experience to deal with narcissists in the future.
Stephanie, how do I get get over the fact that I was reactive in an argument, emotionally charged and laid a boundary ultimatum, “I need this from you for me to be genuine with you, or we need to look for more compatible people”
I calmed down and realized I could have been more gentle. I apologized, said that wasn’t my true self. Sorry if that hurt you.
He said have a good life, I wish you well, then he Blocked me, as I was trying to talk about it.😭😭
No closure, I sent flowers, tried so hard to cater to his feelings after I said that.
He said nothing, still blocked. It hurts STILL!
I know I have to work a bit on myself, and that wasn’t the best version of me.
Is this normal? Was he healthy and just said that’s not for me? Would a normal, healthy person talk about why I was feeling that way or be receptive to an apology after emotions calmed down?
I have been in a similar situation recently @Jeremiah...Some people don't understand, I had the same understanding but one mistake and you are gone..
We just can work on becoming a better version of ourselves, don't think there are any better things we can do..

What bothered me in my past relationship was the fact that
they said they had my back

Your videos are always really informative. Unfortunately with this video, if my narcissistic husband was watching it, he would keep nodding his head saying “oh yes, my wife doesn’t value me”. The projection he does is amazingly deceptive that even I would believe him if I was a friend of his. I was that stupid good friend who thought he was kind, supportive etc but now I realise that through my 30 years with him, I’ve been played for a fool. I try to see the good still that I think has happened, but it’s proving more difficult as I educate myself about NPD. Without saying too much, I went through a very traumatic time and this was the first time I needed my husband to actually emotionally support me but he flunked big time so I ended up mentally unwell and I stupidly had a brief emotional affair with someone who happen to notice that I had been crying. It was really, really brief. I am not saying I was right in anyway but sometimes, these things happen because of trauma. My husband has become so self righteous since this and I think he thinks he’s the damaged party. It happened many years ago and he still uses it against me with no acknowledgment of his appalling behaviour towards me at the time and to be honest ever since. It’s obviously a long story but I always feel bad about myself when I hear you talking about if someone cheats on their partner how bad and disrespect it is. I literally have devoted my life to my husband and my children and I just needed him to step up at a really bad time and he ignored me and him and his mother told me to get over my grief because it had been two months since the deaths of my mother and a best friend that happened a week apart. I really do respect your advice and love listening to your videos but I just wanted to reach out to say that not everyone who ‘cheats’ is disrespectful and uncaring. Sometimes there are circumstances that cloud your judgement.

She was all of these things to me, and I to her, until we had an incident which hurt her and she just didn't want to talk, said it was pointless to talk if I didn't see it the same way. And then she left me. That doesn't mean she didn't value me, but I do feel like I am being punished for her past experiences, like she is taking her past hurts out on me. Even if I did trigger those pains, she didn't want to explain how or why and afterwards just unilaterally decided it wasn't worth it. And now I'm just completely lost. I'm trying to build up my own life, but honestly I feel like my natural state was being with her and I don't want to "move on".
You're not alone in your experience; I've been there too, on both sides of the situation. I wish I could tell you how to get past that pain, but I don't have an answer. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone or wrong in experiencing those feelings.

He didn't trybto control me, but he knew my job took alot of my time right from the beginning and he mocked it and made me feel bad. He quit his job, went and played music and began staying out late at night when he knew nights were the only time we had. Listening to this I wondered if I was trying to control him because I admit I did complain about his music schedule (something he took on 15 yrs after the beginning of our relationship)
Nonetheless he cheated multiple (11 times) throughout the 23 yr relationship. He didn't like my sons, he insulted me, raged at me, lied to me, ghosted me and put his desires and family of origin way before me. I dare say I wasn't valued.

There is absolutely no value in my marriage. In fact I feel my husband doesn’t even like me. Before I started learning about narcissism I had even asked him. I said so many times it seems like you don’t even like me. And not in an angry way asking him. Like in tears. And of course my tears and feelings .. completely disregarded. I am taking all kinds of steps to feee myself and my 2 year old son from this situation. I’m so scared of the smear campaign. I know I can gain power over that fear. But I’m so scared.
Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever been in a relationship that displayed these valuing attributes.

I absolutely love everything you covered Stephanie, thank you for sharing. I know a few people that are going through this right now and excluding Narcissism which trust, I know a few as well, how do you get a person to realize that their stubbornness and "victim mentality" are no help whatsoever and will only keep them stuck in their unhealthy situation instead of, learning to love themselves enough to realize they deserve better and be able to move forward? And especially, when there are children involved?
Honestly, in my experience at least, you really can't convince anyone of anything that they are not interested in, whether it helps them or not. You just gotta let them go on their own path and figure it out themselves. idk if that helps. Have a good day.

Hey Stephanie. I'm so glad you've said this about talking to someone who values you enough to listen to your problems over and over again who will listen to you even if tired and exhausted, I love this, this, warms my heart but I would like you to somehow, if you can, in a video or because I have watched other people on various other channels across you tube saying that people who want to talk about their problems are in fact labeled as the "poor me" and all of a sudden the listener, who wants to help all of a sudden have to protect their energy's because it leaves them the sympathetic, or empathetic kind listener drained and exhausted because other coaches are saying how its not healthy for them - so how are they empathetic and kind if they suddenly try distancing themselves because they're thinking of their own energy.
Does this make them unsympathetic and unkind to think about themselves? Or, do you think its because when you care about someone, you feel feelings and you take their emotional energy on as if its your own problem. Do you think that's the mistake? Because I know coaches have to be able to disengage a bit from their clients or they'd be an emotional wreak and perhaps wouldn't be able to offer that support as well, but as people, normal everyday people who are kind, caring, wanting to help others... where's that line, where they are being the best friend to someone they value and then after watching another coach going protect your energy start worrying about how their friends energy is affecting their own.

Seriously amazing. But the one thing I think I heard that brings up questions for me is, will they really always have an ear? As in not everyone has capacity all the time and I think a good man or woman could say, hey I’m so sorry, but I’m feeling this or experiencing this and is there any way you could talk to your friend about this right now or your therapist or I can talk to you tomorrow?
