There's an even better spot than Skyarrow Bridge for hatching, and that's the main hub for the Battle Subway. It's a perfect circle and NPCs won't get in the way, meaning you just hold up or down to hatch your egg.

@@ZachLane89 Yep. In White 1 I'd leave a couple Pokémon, place a controller to weigh down the B button, put a dime in my 3DS circle pad to constantly be running, and leave my console on overnight to grind a couple dozen levels.

I personally prefer Skyarrow because you can bike directly there from the daycare so you don't need a Pokemon to fly you there
For some reason I didn't trust NPCs to not block in the Subway hub, so back in the day I just hatched eggs on the route outside the Day Care. I didn't mind having to press left/right occasionally, and you save some time having to fly back-forth from the Day Care to pick up new eggs.
I was 100% rooting for that Patrat to only give 1 Exp and it surely did not disappoint

The 'form/forme' thing was created to clumsily translate how the Japanese version uses very different terms, 姿 sugata (form) and フォルム forumu (forme)
One thing I will say about scarlet and violet is that since you can breed pokemon almost anywhere in the game the developers should add egg groups to the pokedex so it keeping track of them is easier for people who breed in game
I feel point just easier to do ditto x pokemon and ignore entire egg group stufd

For reference, Jade is of the bug egg group. This is why she can breed with Lasagna, who is obviously of the bug egg group, along with the mineral egg group.
Harmony is of the flying egg group. Which means... she can breed with the HM slave. (I legit forgot his name. I think it was Strutly?)
For everyone else. Pignati is the field egg group, which is basically the generic mammal beast group. Of which Wailord is also in for some reason.
Aiden is also of the field egg group. Sadly, both him and Pignati are pokemon with 87.5% male ratios. This is also why female eevees and starter mons are so valuable.
And McFly is the human-like egg group. Aka the one with all the mon's that get probably the most rule 34. Also has a 75% male to female ratio.
So he has 3 different compatibilities, though one of them is locked out due to sausage fest on both sides. Another compatibility is considering the hm slave as part of the team.

that's... actually kinda neat, the one that constantly gets praised for their versatility and expansive movepool + the one who gets brought along for only the sake of using specific moves.
Wailord is in Field because whales are mammals; specifically cetaceans. That's why Cetitan and Palafin are in the group too.

If I had a nickel every time a pokemon originating in Hoenn in a Chuggaaconroy letsplay failed to level up by 2 experience points after a battle I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.

I forget if an NPC says it and if so where but one cause people have cited is the Poke Transfer lab, because so many people migrate Pokemon through that tech, some of them escape, invade, breed and suddenly the ecosystem is nigh unrecognizable.
Man my favourite part of this route has got to be those drums that come in when you run. This gen is just so fun.
Ah yes, any competitive player's savior: the daycare. Guaranteed natures were a HUGE help. This place brought my mono fire team to life in gen 5
Did a quick google search and it seems like the Form vs Forme thing is Aesthetic vs Mechanic. As in Gastrodon Blue vs Pink is a Form, while Shaymin Land vs Sky is a Forme
from how it seems pokemon works by Forme is something that a pokemon can shift into, while Form is a pokemons locked form of its species
They could have used a different word instead of making one up
@@eliack95 Forme is an actual word, it means the exact same thing as form. "Forme" is the original word brought over from France in the 14th century, "form" is the newer anglicized version.
I was upset Aiden and Jade weren't compatable, but I had a hunch Jade and Lasagna were since they're both insectoids. I don't do breeding, but I can kinda tell what can breed with what, so it's nice to see one pairing in your team :D

Granted, there's some breeding pairs in Pokemon that aren't so obvious, like Gardevoir being in the same group as Muk (until very late gens gave it Human-Like), Diglett and Wailord (Wailord's presumably in Field because whales are mammals) and, hilariously, Zangoose and Seviper. (Somewhere in the Pokemon world, there's a Romeo and Juliet adaptation based on those species...)

Shuppet=Polichombr, from polichinelle (pulcinella), polisson (rascal) and ombre (shadow)
Banette=Branette, from braguette (zipper) and marionette (puppet)
Lickitung=Excellangue, from excellent and langue (tongue)
Purugly=Chaffreux, from chat (cat) and affreux (horrid), also a play on chartreux (a breed of cat)
Happiny=Ptiravi, from petit (small) and ravi (delighted)
Shaymin=he keeps his name
Land forme=Forme terrestre (terrestrial forme)
Sky forme=Forme céleste (celestial forme)

I also love how these early game areas have NPCs say things similar to Black and White. It kind of happens in the Johto games when you go to Kanto and it's neat there as well.

I don't remember off the top of my head, I know it went something like, he was explaining how Ditto could breed with nearly any Pokemon and then segued into talking about breeding Manaphy creating Phione with a bio much scarier than it needed to be.
The Tympole guy reminded me of the magic of Pokemon where every Pokemon is someone's favourite. I actually know someone who's favourite Pokemon is Unown, specifically Unown-C because it was the first form(e) he encountered in Crystal and recalled being so scared by it that he didn't touch the game for 2 weeks. When he finally came back to the game, he searched over for an Unown-C and made it a member of his team.
On that note: Who is your favourite Pokemon and why?
My favorite Pokemon ever is Turtwig because Diamond was the first main line game I owned as a kid. I had only experienced the anime and Pokemon Snap before that. And Turtwig was the first starter I picked. I never went back. And now I have many precious Torterras that I refuse to part with.

personally i have 2 favourites, which also tend to be common, those being Eevee (im basic and love cute things, sue me), and Ghastly (first shiny i ever got, still have the crystal cart it was on, sadly battery died on it)
Recently for me it’s been the applin line, it was already my favorite dragon type cause it’s based off a pun, and I always thought applin was adorable but didn’t really like either of its original evolutions. Then along comes dipplin keeping applin’s cuteness and then hydrapple which is just a really good design. Somehow they made a wyrm in an apple cool, plus the Pokédex pun syrpents is just gold.
Dunsparce was my favorite Pokemon for the longest time. It getting an evolution in gen 9 that was just Dunsparce But More made me unbelievably happy, even if other people were underwhelmed by it.
But now, thanks to a romhack called Crystal Legacy, I think Lanturn is very close to dethroning my old favorite. I only picked up Chinchou for type coverage, but it ended up being the MVP of my team. Now I wish the Nefarious Anglerfish got more love.
Weighing in on Emile's comment about card games, the golden example of early cards being good years later is also Pot of Greed. It's a simple ability with 3 words "Draw 2 cards" and that simple ability has had it sitting on the banlist for more than 20 years at this point.

I think you may have gotten the Pansage and Panpour shrubs backwards. If you look at the flowers around the base each of the monkey shrubs, they are colors that match the monkey's type. (The pansear shrub has red flowers, and the other two have blue and greeen)

ever since lasagna became a member of the team i've had a headcanon that he feels a bit insignificant compared to the rest of the team. pignati and mcfly are best bros, aidan is. well. aidan...and jade and harmony can go fly off and do whatever they want. lasagna joined the team last, he's got a massive shell that makes him slower than everyone, but without it he's the smallest guy on the team. i think jade would pick up on his insecurities and say "nope, nobody on the team is sad on my watch" and gifts him increasingly bigger rocks as they get closer. one day she drops a MASSIVE boulder in front of blaise's house, and while lasagna is positively smitten, blaise is just thinking "how in the world am i going to explain this to mom..."

Little note about what Chugga said regarding Iron Valiant: It indeed can learn Skill Swap, but Quark Drive (and its Scarlet Paradox counterpart Protosynthesis) is unaffected by Skill Swap. Meaning Iron Valiant can learn a move that it will never under any circumstance be able to use!
You want a good pokemon for catching things? Breloom. Technician boosted False Swipe, and access to both Spore moves for your choice of Sleep or Paralysis.
Far from the first case of a Pokemon learning a functionally useless move; Mew can learn Attract and Captivate despite being genderless.

One thing I never see mentioned is that putting a pokemon in the day care can get rid of HM moves off pokemon very easily but you have to know the level up movesets. Always put hm moves in the top spot so they forget them first.
Funny daycare story so I was doing a pokemon diamond wedlocke and while hatching the riolu egg I put a pikachu and roselia in the daycare just so they were gaining a few levels for them. Once the riolu hatched I was shocked to see roselia and pikachu made a egg. Didn't know they were compatible lol. The Roselia that came out of the egg had double team which it got from pikachu
damn, ive never heard about wedlockes until this comment - interesting twist on the usual nuzlocke rules with a silly word play name to go with it :)

Breeding episode reminded me that when I first played Pokemon XD, I accidentally left a Shadow Snorunt in the Agate Village daycare until it gained enough EXP to be ready to evolve. Pretty sure it was a 20+ level gain
That's... actually a really interesting point, can Shadow Pokemon be left in the Daycare, and if they can, do they gain experience or just empty their gauge?

Yeah that's fair. I imagine it's just emptying their heart gauge and from there it starts counting experience which is added when purified.

I am soooooooooooooo glad breeding has been streamlined since its inception, especially with how quickly you can hatch eggs in Gens 8 and 9 and passing Egg Moves extremely easily in Gen 9. I always breed Pokemon for my team members.

True story: I slept on Roserade being strong until a repeat playthrough for Omega Ruby. I never saw Roserade as strong until I used it for myself. Until then, I always one-shot every Roserade I came across in game, including Cynthia. No, I never did competitive, nor did I pay attention to it. That’s part of why Roserade flew under the radar for me for 2 and a half years generations!
I can't believe incubators were basically introduced in Gen 5. And that spin trade roulette thing is very fun. I feel so lost about my own favorite region.

I have a small theory about the anime where my main evidence is related to breeding. Remember the Stoutland that cared for the Litten that Ash eventually caught? I don’t think he’s just Litten’s adoptive father, I think he’s biological father too. They’re both in the Field egg group, meaning that they can breed, and it’s the mother that passes on the species. The fact that Stoutland mentored Litten on how to use Fire Fang and Fire Blast is a little reminiscent of how the dad passes on the moveset
That ending was a laugh I needed to have after a rough day at work.

Theres acwierd amount of breeding you need to do in this game to complete thd regional pokedex. And since completing it (at least by seeing every pokemon) actually gets you something un this game, you are encouraged to do it. I did it in my dirst playthtough, and this is my reminder that i need to do it in thox one as well.

I've messed around with Gen 5's Daycare quite a bit between all the breeding I needed to do for my National Dex as well as a handful of Masuda hunts. I hunted my Shiny Scolipede this way because I got so sick of phasing for it in Lostlorn Forest and my Shiny Reuniclus to use in the PWT, which I named Jelly Baby, it's one of my favourite pokemon I own now. I plan to make that one a Ribbon Master soon too.
Honestly, in my experience Unovas Daycare is pretty high up there as far as they go. A good location and the Hatching Pass Power that you can get for 30 Minutes basically for free if you have a second game. Nothing beats ORAS' Daycare cause of that infinite loop though.

I just checked, while Harmony isn't compatible with any of the main team, she is compatible with Strutly.
To reference an old yet infamous stream, I guess Strutly can properly “apologize” to Harmony for stealing her thunder of loading up the cargo bags all the way back in Mistralton
When one of the main characters in a sitcom starts a relationship with that side character who has been around since season 3
one thing about breeding in this game that im pretty sure changed in the very next games was that only the father passes on egg moves. As of XY i believe, either parent will pass on an egg move if they know one making certain movesets obtainable for the first time. I remember being disappointed that in BW2 you cannot have an azumarill with both aqua jet and belly drum since there is no single pokemon thats a compatible partner that can learn both, but then in X&Y that changed and suddenly belly drum azumarill was a beast with access to priority. The fairy typing definitely helped as well.
Starting with playing Sword and Shield, I have since gotten into breeding for good pokemon teams to do repeat playthroughs, with 5-6 IVs. For my second playthrough of Violet, I bred a full team of Skeledirge (named Charon), Kilowattrel (named Brisa), Dondozo (named Nerissa), Mabosstiff (named Buffy), Farigiraf (named Savannah), and Cyclizar (named Jade). All of them are very powerful. And I have even more pokemon I've bred. Including a shiny Goodra, his name is Peaches.
And it's all thanks to a super freaking lucky wondertrade I got in Ultra Sun. Somebody sent me a shiny 6 IV Japanese ditto that is extremely precious. I've used it to breed multiple shinies. And with all the starters being available in Indigo Disk again, I can finally start breeding for my shiny Serperior that I want so badly. 😁

5:51 Sorry to be "that person" but the effects of Adamant and Modest are switched on screen. The only reason I caught that is because those are the mints I'm always buying in Gen 9! I'd also like to second going for a neutral nature (Quirky, Hardy, etc.) Ditto in addition to Emile's on-screen suggestions since some Pokemon are genuinely good all around (Kommo-o being a good example).

For the Ditto catching deal.... a way to cheese it would be with the good old AI breaker that is Zoura/Zororark with their Illusion ability.... If Illusion's up, Ditto's transform will fail to it every time (provided it is trying to transform into the disguised pokemon, so not a guarantee in double battles), that can give you a great way to try and catch it without worrying about anyone's HP.
