  • pikocore now has midi out! get it at pikocore.com
there is a new version of the pikocore firmware available (v1.3.0) which automatically assigns each button a note. the note can be changed by holding the button and turning the leftmost knob.
anytime the pikocore is plugged into a midi receiving device it will send out midi notes for each step. you can quickly get sequence variations by turning up the "jump randomness" which will randomize the sequence.
here I'm using an online tool called "midi2midi" (google it, second result) which can automatically push midi from one device to another. here I'm sending midi out from the pikocore into the roland tb03.

Hey there Zack! At 0:44 it looks like you use the same pikocore controls to "mangle" the midi-out (jump, I think). Did I catch that right? Also, can you have samples running simultaneously while using the midi-out?? I'd assume they'd both have to be bound to the same parameters (filter, gate, jump, retrig). Maybe I just have to try it and experiment for myself, but I'm away from home right now and very curious. 😅
As always, keep up the awesomeness!!

great observation - yes! the jump probability will also mangle the midi out sequence! its a quick way to randomize the sequence (and you can return to normal by turning the probability to 0). also yeah, samples are working at the same time, so you can sequence something and play samples in sync!

@@infinitedigitsMe again. Having played with MIDI-out for a while now, I have more questions:
-Is there a secret way, or will there be a way in a future update, to trigger black keys (not Cmaj or Am)?
-Can there be a way to include rests in the pattern (note does not play, or is skipped)?
-Am I correct in finding that only "jump" and "retrig" affect the pattern?
As to questions #1 & #2, if I could code at all, I'd make my own solutions…
(Perhaps: Hold the button and use Knob A [CCW=note value; CW=note sharp] with lights to signify; or Knob B [CCW=note ON; CW=note OFF], again with lights, as appropriate.)
But as it is I can't, so I'm putting forth an informal request to add these if you can find the time and would be so kind.
Thanks, for the hundredth time it seems, for being the man!!!

@@robert___t there will be a way to change the scale. rests is a great idea! I can add that. jump and retrig do affect the pattern, I thought that would be part of the fun :)

Hey Zack! Amazing update, thank you so much! Would it be possible to add the clock info in the midi out as well? I noticed that to trigger sequencers it is difficult to have a good result since each retrigger changes to the next step in the sequence, it would be nice to be able to keep the sequences within the clock.
