    Martin Axenrot on drums is a criminally underrated drummer. He is phenomenal

      He was voted best prog drummer 2 years running by loudersound. I’ve never got this “rating” system personally...

      Axe is great, but I think Lopez's work in Ghost Reveries is also incredibly underrated. I dont see anyone discussing it.

      @@BleaK1211 Really? I always thought his work on GR sounded tired and overproduced. I'll take his earlier work on MAYH and Still life any day. He's mellowed a lot though; he feels more comfortable in Soen.

    Opeth is the kind of metal you listen while wearing your smoking jacket, sigar in one hand and a single malt whiskey in other.

    Love the tasteful bass on this song. Perfectly accompanied by a drummer who uses all the tools in his arsenal without going too over the top or getting busy. They leave the perfect amount of air for eachother.

      Some really great tracks from them. I always seem to run across the bands that have been disbanded, someone dies, or they just stop producing.

    • @xen0bia
      @xen0bia 3 года назад

      @@vodkadrinker4723 Yeah. And for me, I can thank Agalloch for having being my bridge into folk music as they often guest starred Nathanael Larochette, an acoustic guitar and composer, in some of their tracks whom is behind Musk Ox, a neofolk production. To this day I am still down the rabbit hole exploring neofolk, pagan folk, viking folk and a plethora of others, with one of my favorite being Heilung, another group the Hunterz have reacted to.

      Enslaved opened for them too and Porcupine Tree when they played Damnation all clean vocals co-headlining together.
      First time I ever saw them was opening for Amorphis and every time since I think they were always headlining except when they opened for Dream Theater and when they played Mayhem Fest and Sounds of the Underground.

    When I last saw opeth live (last winter), their support act had been an icelandic Trio called The Vintage Caravan... that had been prog at it's core, I would guess. (But me coming from a blackmetal / doommetal backround a tiny bit to flimsy and happy sounding) But opeth's ability to transition, to prolong every part just exactly long enoug before one would become annoyed and then Top it with an ever better part, at least to me as a longtime fan, is outstanding. I am looking foreward to my 13th show, hopefully next year in October... and, after he begged for many months, I will bring my then 9 year old son too, because he loves opeth just as his mommy does. My favorite part of Harlequin Forest is that ' they are the trees' part and the following guitar solo. I just love the lyrics and how they did weave the music around it.
