It's a deeply sad story of loss and denial, but at its conclusion the clouds lift and there is acceptance at least. Having worked with her on 3 previous videos, I knew as soon as I wrote it that it was perfect for Jess to do something amazing with. Even then nothing prepared me for the organic beauty and power of the film she made, a painstaking labour of love that took her months to produce. When we play the song live I look out into the audience and see people swept away with emotion at the combination of music and animation. this whole album Hand. Cannot. Erase. is a masterwork. there are basically no weak tracks on it.
it's a magnum opus alright. it's too emotional for me to listen to though. hits a few too many nerves if you know what i mean. dangerous territory.
The smiles on both of your faces at the beginning, how cute. Steven Wilson will set that right.
As someone who watched his brother/best friend kneel in front of his 6-month old son's coffin, I can say this video cuts straight to the core of your being if you've lost someone so precious.
So happy that you're finally noticing the genius that is Steven Wilson. Another wonderful newer song is "Song of I" if you can find the live version. It's absolutely beautiful.

Never watched this and not cried like a child. Having had a brother who lost a 6-month-old son I can fathom the despondency and feeling like there is simply nowhere to escape to to avoid the anguish. It's worse than death the emptiness and sadness. Steve Wilson is one of the best song writers of all time.
Excellent reaction video! This and Drive Home are some of the most powerful music/video experiences out there. Steven has always been a true champion of creating album's/songs that take the listener on a musical journey. He's fantastic at creating his own worlds with carefully considered curated tracks for his records that have an almost cinematic quality to them. You've got so much incredible material to look forward to! 😊

The silence from you two at the end says it all. So moving. Beautiful song. Wonderful video. Must also mention the fantastic Ninet Tayeb who sings the female parts. There's a video where she does all the parts of this song live at rehearsal in an an empty Royal Albert Hall. Worth watching. The video for Drive Home is also great!
That live video, with the RAH entirely empty, is AMAZING! That atmosphere is as good as it can be... That venue is huge, the seats go up and up..

Steven Wilson is a genius, it takes a special talent to be able to rip a listener's heart out! Steven said he got the inspiration for this after listening to Kate Bush's song "Mrs. Bartolozzi" from her 2005 album Aerial (Steven is a huge fan of Kate), about a woman who deals with the grief of losing her husband by throwing herself into the household chores

I invited a friend a couple of years ago to have a coffee and I shared this video while we talked about favorite music of both, I listen to it and I must say that it made her but I couldn't help but notice that at the moment of the scream she shed several tears, several minutes of silence later and wiped her eyes she apologized and returned minutes later explaining that it reminded her of a family tragedy, I didn't know, I just showed him an example of one of my favorite musicians.

Steven Wilson is an under-appreciated genius (no matter how much you love him) - whether it's re-mastering other people's work or creating some of the most emotional music ever. Suzy was on this right away, the emotion on her face was striking, I was tearing up. My first exposure to this song was in concert back in 2015. He played the video behind the band. Between this and his masterpiece "The Raven That Refused To Sing", I was sitting in a puddle. Your silence was the perfect reaction - there is just nothing else one can do. I just love you both, you're such real people and you let us see and share that with you. Thanks, you two!!!

An artist attempting to convey the hurt and devastation of losing loved ones, is not worshiping death. Sorrow is real and you don't worship that kind of pain. You missed the whole point, didn't you?
