"Still Life", one of the greatest Metal albums ever made, is the album that turned STEVEN WILSON on to Opeth and he went on to form a career-changing relationship with them, including becoming best friends with Mikael Akerfeldt. Steven co-produced, mixed, engineered and performed additional guitar, piano and vocal work on the subsequent handful of albums Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation, Heritage and Pale Communion and Opeth in turn influenced the second half of Porcupine Tree's discography, as the latter's sound took on a metallic edge and Mikael gave Steven some Opeth riffs that he didn't use ("Blackest Eyes" for example).
OMG did Mikael really write the opening riff to Blackest Eyes??? That makes so much sense but at the same time so shocking! It's Porcupine Tree's second most famous song :O :O :O
Masters Apprentices, Deliverance, Blackwater park, Wreath, Heir apparent and so many more need lovin'. Ghost of perdition ofc as all reaction channels does it and it is a phenomenal song.
Glad to see you guys doing some Opeth. They are my personal favorite band and I've seen them live five times. Their album run from Morningrise to My Arms, Your Hearse to Still Life to Blackwater Park absolutely cannot be matched by any band in extreme metal. Other songs from them I'd recommend are When, Demon of the Fall, Bleak, Deliverance, Heir Apparent, Windowpane and Blackwater Park.
I love how Opeth use two completely different styles in their songs.. They have really heavy songs with tons of grunts like this one, and then they make super soft ballads like burden or harvest... It's insane!
Absolutely freaking insane. Opeth live is even more impressive then on vinyl. The tickets are already in da house. Going to see them in The Dutch city of Utrecht next year(when all is normal again, hopefully)
This was the very first Opeth song I ever heard. About 15 years ago they were getting ready to release their new album Ghost Reveries and a guy was talking about how stoked he was in the IRC chat I was in a lot. When I said I'd never heard of them he told me to go pick up either Still Life or Blackwater Park and to "thank him later". Well, I chose Still Life and threw it on. From the moment the vocals went from those incredible growls to the first clean part I was fucking BLOWN AWAY. Before that Metallica and stuff like that was the metal I listened to, but Opeth introduced me to death metal and I still love them to this day. I was actually listening to this album in my car yesterday! (Still Life, Blackwater Park, My Arms Your Hearse and Ghost Reveries take up 4 of the 6 CD slots in the changer in my car and if my phone ever dies or anything I throw one of them on 90% of the time lol)
Still Life was the first Opeth album I ever bought and this was their first song I heard on CD. I actually found out about Opeth from seeing them live back in 2001 when they opened for Amorphis (In Flames, Hypocrisy, then Amorphis were the first death metal bands I got into). They were so good and my friend Jim and I were so impressed that we both went out and started getting all the Opeth albums and the first one I got was Still Life (my friend Jim got Orchid first) and shortly after that we both got the rest of their albums. Then got 2 of my other friends that didn't even listen to death metal into them. I remember so many car trips blasting Opeth with friends. They've been my favorite band for nearly 20 years now and so many amazing concerts.
Such a great performance,, and what a pain to remember that I was just 1 month away from seeing them live for the 2nd time but quarantine started. Now hopefully until April 2021
great reaction, I HIGHLY recommend When (Roundhouse Tapes) by Opeth. It's an incredible performance that has similarities to this in the beauty. I think you will love it.
This is one album I need to listen to from start to finish every time. For Opeth, it actually a very peaceful sounding album but best to listen to it on a rainy day when you are looking to relax. At least for me anyway. Even the heavy stuff on it relaxes me.
Melinda was the reason why I came into Opeth. Great reaction. You should try with any song from the Ghost Reveries album, live and studio version, both are amazing.
You should react to Soen! Great band with great music! Martin Lopez, former drummer (and the best) of Opeth is in that band. Have 4 albums, no bad tracks! If I say so myself :-)
I prefer the studio version of this song comparatively. Check it out, its complexities hold up better in the studio I think. Can't fathom the difficulty of playing this song live, though.
Interesting first Opeth reaction. Not saying Ghost of Perdition should be your next, but when you hear that one you won't be saying "I see you Opeth", you'll be saying "I love you Opeth"
If you want to react to some more great swedish metalbands I can recommend Bloodbath, At The Gates, Tribulation, In Mourning, Dark Tranquility and Marduk

still life is their best lol

Blackwater Park is my favourite, Still Life a close second.

Harlequin Forest (from the same concert) is also a must see.

Michael Akerfeldt - one of the greatest musician ever.. OPeth for life
great reaction, I HIGHLY recommend When (Roundhouse Tapes) by Opeth. It's an incredible performance that has similarities to this in the beauty. I think you will love it.
Arlequin Forest from the same Royal Albert Hall
The first Opeth song I ever heard from the first Opeth album I ever bought, Still Life. Bought the album 20 years ago. How time flies.
Opeth - Face Of Melinda (Live 2006) is even better
This is one album I need to listen to from start to finish every time. For Opeth, it actually a very peaceful sounding album but best to listen to it on a rainy day when you are looking to relax. At least for me anyway. Even the heavy stuff on it relaxes me.
A fair judgeday, harlequin forest, the drapery falls, ghost of perdition

YES! Opeth! Please do Harlequin Forest or Blackwater Park! Preferably both! You guys are great btw!
their second best song! Their best is the leper affinity! Should check out the live version from this concert of that song
You should react to Soen! Great band with great music! Martin Lopez, former drummer (and the best) of Opeth is in that band. Have 4 albums, no bad tracks! If I say so myself :-)
Harlequin Forest

Yeap. Opeth's chords choices are most eerie, grotesque, mysterious, their passages pristine assembly of immaculate nature.
So awesome 🔥
OPETH, Harlequin Forest
Opeth Windowpane
Harlequin forest or Ghost of perdition next! (Live, of course) 🤘
You gotta do either Ghost of Perdition or Harlequin Forest next!
Opeth, Devil's Orchard live.
