      Why did they sell Palmer and then Alvarez? Only thing they are lacking at the moment to go into a deep crisis like Barcelona and Ac Milan had a few years back is to re-sign Mahrez on free. They made the same mistake as countless clubs before. They let the team to get too old and it is not like they can rid of players on big contracts whenever they want. .

    The issue is that losing Rodri just exposed all the other problems City had that Rodri was able to cover or help cover. The midfield is catastrophically slow and they don’t have a single midfielder with any defensive ability. Add in Kyle Walker playing like his name suggests, no bench depth and getting torn apart in transitions and City look like the pre-oil money version where their best players were Wright-Phillips, Elano, Robinho with Micah Richards being the best youth player the club had.

      Guardiola’s biggest flaw is that he never bought a backup CDM at any one of the clubs he was at. There was no Busquets replacement or Alonso replacement and now Rodri replacement. He goes to financial powerhouses and he never utilized that money. Instead spending it all on wingers and attacking midfielders.

    • @p_1945
      @p_1945 Месяц назад +9

      @@kc43 he tried but they have the problem that backup won't be play in the field as he always stick with the main one in which you saw in Palmer situation before.
      Moreover than that he try to buy rice but with his condition , rice go to arsenal as main player instead of spare part for pep.
      as CDM are highly need so they always have other choice more than be desperation to be back up for man city.

      No. It's nowhere near bad as the crisis that Liverpool faced that season.
      That year Liverpool was top of the league till December 30( matchday 16). They only dropped out of top 4 on matchday 24 - which coincides with Gomez, Matip, Kabak, Davies, and even Henderson who was used as an emergency centre half, being out with injuries. They lost the service of Salah and Mane and Keita for a month due to Afcon between January and February which coincided with the team dropping out of the top 4. They also had to deal with significant spells of injuries to Chamberlain, Keita, Thiago, Tsimikas, Origi and Jota. Also remember that the origins of the David Coote VAR & refereeing saga began here. The fact that Klopp managed to get Liverpool to a top4 finish with Rhys Williams and Nat Philips as Centre backs was nothing short of a miracle.

For me playing Haaland every game without Rodry is never going to work because it looks like we are a player short in the middle every game. If you don’t want to change style of play the only solution is dropping Haaland for the big games and playing Foden as a false 9 to get that extra player in midfield that we so desperately need. Have we forgotten that we only turned things around last year when Haaland was injured. No disrespect to him he is the best finisher in the world but he just doesn’t fit in this style of play.
