How difficult it is to choose a favorite song from this band because all the songs are incredible, each song has its dynamics, its composition, its feeling parts and also gutural...

This album is a concept album to the T and a masterpiece. Before revisiting any other tracks from Still Life, i think Face of Melinda has to come first, as it's kind of the pinnacle of events story wise, and sonically the largest departure in feel and attitude.

One of my faves! Love the breakdown and the heavy 'Dune' soundtrack riff, very similar to the part half way through 'The Baying of the Hounds' from Ghost Reveries. As ever there is so much Opeth to listen to, we really are fortunate this music exists. I'm not sure if you've done anything off Deliverance as that was one of the first albums that got me into them, every song perfect, heavy and brutal (apart from 'For Absent Friends' interlude). Most people would suggest the song Deliverance from this album (epic outro), but personally I like A Fair Judgement/Master's Apprentices/Wreath, probably down to the guitar work and they're some of the few Opeth songs I've learnt. Anyway looking forward to this one and will give it an anticipatory like.

I really agree for the black rose immortal song but it is understandable since it is so early in their career and it is interesting seeing the early stage of opeth that had all the ideas in mind but not the experience to make it a masterpiece as they ended up doing with most of their songs

I moved on from pre-Blackwater Park-albums ~20 years ago although I listen to a couple of gems now and then, this song and Face of Melinda in particular. Still Life (the album The Moor is off of) is the last of their early era albums and the most refined of those. Then Blackwater Park arrived and with that and the albums up until and including Watershed they knocked it out of the park as far as I'm concerned when it came to mixing progressive metal, folk influences, jazz/fusion chords and growl+clean vocals.

Sometimes, It takes a few listens to fully grasp and understand what the artist is conveying, In terms of Blackrose Immortal. I absolutely love that song, as well as the entire album (Morningrise) as a whole is a Masterpiece. May I suggest Under The Weeping Moon, from their First Record, Orchid (1995). Yes, It does have the same style of production, but it's more unique and Atmospheric. I think you will at least enjoy it more.

The first three albumes from Opeth were the worst to me at first. Particularly Morningrise was one of the hardest to handle. I stayed away from Black Rose Immortal in the past, but I tried to listen it many times. Finally, I discovered a great song that still keep surprise me and I love it. A similar example is the album "Fear Innoculum" from Tool (Definitely you have to listen it) which I was not connected with it at first four listens, but now, I think that album is one the best of the decade.

@@Celatra Opeth was one of the first bands that introduce me the Progressive Metal, I didn't understand that music at beginning. After listening all Opeth discography I realized their music is hard to understand at first listen. So, I liked so much and I listened more times all their albumes, it took me two years understand them. The same thing happend with the new era of Opeth. By the way, I tried the same thing with Katatonia but I never get into them, symply they are not my thing. Now, I have listened dozens of new bands and I listened them several times until hated them or loved them, but , judge at first time is an error in the prog world. In my opinion. @@alfredovaldivia5087 right, but just because you learn to love a band doesn't mean you shouldn't criticize any of their works. Early opeth was flawed as fuck and songs were like ideas glued together without any refinement or polish. plus lots of riffs in Orchid sound alot like leads and riffs from Iron Maiden.
Black Rose Immortal is one of their weakest songs, it has no coherence, the lyrics are meh, drumming is really generic, vocals are generic, guitar riffs are basic black metal stuff and the transitions just don't work.

I love it when I'm on a machine doing cardio lmao. I agree though, epics are really cool, and the full display of a band's ability to tell stories, but sometimes it's important not to lose touch of what makes music hit the soul. Anthems and memorable melodies that collide with that authenticity and creativness.
