you should watch the "a concert a day" show here on yt from 2020 i think, that show was better imo, more of a classic concert but still really good sound and video, and think they played even better there.
For me, Gentleman's mtv unplugged full show tops this one but wow, this band is leaving me speechless, especially Pinegrove - "Amperland, NY" - The Movie.
Voice could be turned a bit up and a bit more crisp imo (think his voice will sound better with condenser mic) But the guitars are nice and crisp tubey sounds
Sometimes I'm saddened knowing that I'm too old to be part of this wonderful music that young folks are producing these day, but that doesn't stop me from listening.
Hey I know I’m a little late on this comment, but there’s no such thing as too old. Write, play, and appreciate the music you want. You’ll be accepted.
@@soomysoom1419 Hmm I don't think so. The name Midwest Emo refers to the unique emo scene that spawned in the Midwest back in the day. Midwest Emo retains the 'emotional' lyricism and vocal delivery of emo but replaces the hardcore instrumentation and harsh vocals for more melodic vocals and indie-rock/math-rock inspired guitars parts -- I wouldn't say that there's any country influence in Midwest Emo though (disregarding the influence country had on rock-and-roll). I should have been more specific with my original comment and said "they sound like a 'midwest emo' band with a splash of country" but "emo" has kind of become a shorthand for "midwest emo" in music discourse. Regardless, it's all just music and sometimes it's better to have music that you can enjoy without these label (something I was more concerned with 4 years ago when I wrote this comment). Thanks for the comment!
Simple harmony, memorable-as-hell melodies, and a genuine delivery. The lyrics are so fucking down to earth, INFP af, and it's sometimes mathy without being math rock. They groove HELLA hard, playing behind the beat and using rubato (slowing down and speeding up- for all the non-musicians). The sound fuses emo/indie/americana, giving them a wide array of an audience. Their "full" band with another guitarist and their keys/backup singer is so lush and beautiful, I nearly died seeing them live. It's a no bullshit; simple but shining with solid musicianship. Anyways, I'll shut up about why these guys are so good, but I could probably write a whole essay on it.
They're doing something so different yet familiar at the same time it's hard to pinpoint why they sound so good but it comes down to musical and songwriting talent. I saw them live and was blown away at how fresh each song could sound just by their slight melody changes and the way hey put them together in comparison to the album versions. Love pinegrove and they never fail to impress me.
Wow I have never heard someone describe any music as "INFP" I literally froze mid-sentence when I read that. I'm INFP and this band makes my soul feel whole. All of their lyrics and melodies have resonated so strongly with me. Damn, if you know of any other "INFP af" bands, please do share!!
Kirby3585 lol the "INFP" music for me is King Krule, Florist, Duster, rappers like Rejjie Snow and Loyle Carner, some emo/math bands, etc. I mean, how dare I reserve such music to one Myers-Briggs type: I just said INFP, cause this music makes me feel more like one, if that makes any sense?
Right? It's a daily listen for me. That's how I feel about Pinegrove in general, my life took such a positive turn when I started listening to them. Love it
curious why you think their other stuff is really that different from Cardinal/Everything So Far. They changed a bit, as all bands do, but there is a lot of consistency there and I think Skylights and Marigold are great albums
This performance is still my go-to when it comes to listening to this band. Thank god this whole session is on Spotify as well. All the songs here are better than their album versions IMO...Maybe I'm biased because this was my introduction to them, but at any rate... it's just so great all around.

Can't stop listening to Pinegrove after watching this. Each one of them plays so perfectly. It blows my mind that the drummer hits the top of the bass drum with the sticks, sounds so good!
Declan Corcoran The only real downside is ruining your shells in a cosmetic sense. But they do have wood blocks you can mount right on top your bass to take the blow. This is an amazing session though and I can't stop listening either!

session
The idea of the song Cadmium is beautiful, love the intro, how the lyrics are matched after saying you go on your own path, percussion, and bass come in at different rhymes and tempos. great idea.
I just keep coming back... What a session
