Evan answered questions between songs, and someone asked about creative inspiration: Evan mentioned he was really into the idea of a lead singer harmonizing with their own melodies. If you can establish the melody in the song, have the listener expect that melody to happen again, and then sing the harmony so it's almost like both are happening in the listener's head. Sort of related to your comment but I thought it was a really fascinating idea!!
THE LICK THAT HAPPENS AT 21:00! At that point in the night we had some gentler songs, some well-known Pinegrove songs, and then Namesake (which I had never listened to before). It became my favorite of the night because you could see the room just go "WOW" at that very moment. I noticed also while editing that Evan tries the lick before the song begins, & you can hear a friend say "Oh you're gonna try that?" And Evan says "I think I will!" When he does it at 21:00 pay attention to the folks in the back area by the couches! He clearly impressed them

I didn't know him before this set, and I got really into Pinegrove after this show. I saw fofamungy's covers one day and thought, "Yo is that the guy I shot at the Evan set??" I think it is? I didn't get a chance to say hi!
It sounds pretty similar to Need 2 tuning in this show. When editing I left the strumming in at the beginning of Namesake for someone to help identify the tuning
@@watertower1 I guess it's just the Columbus thing specifically that catches me off guard. We have a holiday dedicated to the guy. But then there is this new movement to say "fuck that guy". It's weird to me.
@@dorsmap it's not hard. He did some fucked up things and expressed fucked up views towards people of other cultures he didn't understand. He wasn't a good person. It doesn't mean you need to undo America. It is good to acknowledge these things instead of pretending history was all sunshine and roses, they have very real and very long lasting implications that people are still feeling today.
