    evan (the singer) is doing a solo mini tour right now, and he did a show in my town in some random dude's living room and when we walked in he was just sitting criss cross applesauce on the floor and he greeted us with a big smile and a handshake and was just an absolute sweetheart. he made sure to talk to every single person that walked through that door and try to make a personal connection with all of them. his set is even better in person and he's just such a down to earth guy. i'm so glad someone like him exists

      adam srikantha tiny desks always are. Not an easy situation to mix for either, the fact that they're trying to get a real organic sound while using as few mics as possible in that room they're in which doesn't look to be some acoustic masterpiece of a space.... Credit to the people that book for that too though, most acts that come thru know how to play to the situation so well. Out of all the stripped down performance shows out there, audiotree, 97x, triple j, etc etc, tiny desk is the undisputed best.

    i just keep playing old friends over and over again. it crushes me. i had a friend who looked like the lead singer, like, strangely similar, and about a year ago he killed himself. he was in the military, we played high school football together, and were generally close during that time, but life has a way of creating distance between people, even those you love dearly. it's just that idea, and that line about seeing an old friend, and attending their funeral not that long after seeing them, and how we should tell our friends and parents that we love them. fuck man, it just makes me feel so human i guess

    • @blakemcpherson9725
      @blakemcpherson9725 6 лет назад +32

      I feel ya man. About a year ago, my first girlfriend died in a car wreck and every time he sings "I saw Leah on the bus a few months ago, saw some old friends at her funeral" it makes me think of her and growing up with her. Really plucks some strings at your heart, you know.

    • @lindsayobrienhead9821
      @lindsayobrienhead9821 5 лет назад +11

      I completely understand this.. I actually listened to Old Friends over and over again after my friend died of an accidental overdose.. I feel guilty about always being in my own world and not making more of an effort to connect with her in recent times, along with others that have made an impact in my life. And the thing about seeing Leah on the bus a few months ago.. saw some old friends at her funeral ..reminds me of seeing old friends from college at her funeral and it tears me apart.

    I love watching how emotionally they’re all connected to these songs. Even the banjo-ist looks like he’s feeling every feeling he’s ever felt while plucking the banjo. It really tugs at my heartstrings and I love it so much. It’s rare for a band to continually exude their connection to the music like this, as well as be able to convey it during multiple live performances.

    Having never heard this band before this video, there was a gut punch in Old Friends pretty much right at "I should call my parents when I think of them / I should tell my friends when I love them." It felt so heartwrenching and real, like I just walked into a personal moment I wasn't supposed to. That combo of beautiful music and sorrowful lyrics is pretty powerful.

      well there was some controversy surrounding him and a relationship he had with a woman. he's learned from it and they resolved their conflict through a mediator and she seems to be satisfied with the reflection and changes he's made as well as how he addressed it when it all came out. that's all we can ask for from artists. they are human and if they cannot avoid problematic situations to begin with then all we can hope is they do right by each other (the people involved) and they learn and grow and it appears that is the case with evan. (this was all more of a gray area situation than a black and white one btw).

    Pinegrove got me through so many social anxiety moments and got me back into the world two years ago. I love how Evan finds every feeling and detail of a story/moment. The storytelling is almost like the conversation with yourself, in a way. I’m most upset that I missed this era to see them live or even just Evans solo tour. I’m looking forward to the new era! I hope I get to experience this live someday but I’ll live vicariously through RUclips. 😂
