He disarms you with this jovial and friendly nature, and then he tells his servants they'll lose their hands if they accidentally spill even a drop of the drink. You really don't know if he's joking or serious, so you err in the side of caution. He's very terrifying.

I think at this point Gus saw this as the only way out. If this didn't work, Gus was never getting a second chance. Revenge now or subjugation forever. And if he did indeed get caught and Eladio killed him for it, what then? He's no longer alive to feel the regret. That's the brilliance of this plan: he understood what was at stake and seemed ready to accept the consequences of whatever happened and for that he was rewarded with a spot of good luck.
Gus is also smart enough to correctly surmise that don eladio would suspect it's tampered with and would want to find out immediately especially in front of all of his people that's why he decided to drink it then and there, he shares it with everyone but they all wait to drink until Gus drinks, if Gus didn't he would have been f.cked but since he did then that was good enough for Don eladio, I don't think it was a risk at all Gus knew what he was doing

Don Eladio's death was brutal. When he was drowning, he couldn't even move enough to get out of the water. Usually when you're forced underwater, you can fight back and survive. Eladio already had no hope of survival, drowning just made his death more agonizing.

I really like how Mike took Jessie under his wing. You can tell Mike really liked Jessie after awhile and kind of became a bit of a father figure to him.
Gus's plan here is brilliant, but indirectly it wouldn't have been possible without Walt, because Gus got to know Jesse through Walt. Gus would have never tried this with Gale instead of Jesse.
Also a reasonably moral decision. On the one hand, Gus could guarantee revenge. On the other, he needs a cook, AND could save a life. He didn't pick revenge.
