For exactly the 7 seconds of a shot, the entire crew worked more than 700 hours cumulatively to give a 7 second shocking experience to their audience. No wonder the characters of Breaking Bad stands tall best of all time..!!
Probably the most epic death in the history of television, its so beautiful when all the departments are hitting it so perfect , and Vince just keeping it together, honestly i could never get enough of The Breaking Bad content ... its just so fucking gooooooooood
The best series ever… handsdown there are not many out there which ppl can watch multiple times and still feels like they are watching it for the first time
Fun fact for those who seen Maximum Overdrive, In the beginning there was the guy in the Dixieboy truck stop cleaning out the game room. That is gus. Pretty cool.
It’s weird hearing Giancarlo talk normally, I’m so used to him talking like a robot business man. I’d love to see him talk normally in a role and play a normal guy, the dude it totally type cast now
It didnt ruin the series. The last season was about Walt's downfall. So technically there was no major villian in the final season. It was the ending to Walt's story
yes, most movies and shows use a blend of practical and special effects. like stated in the video, sfx makeup can help the actors get into character. it also looks better most of the time, case in point, jurrasic park. earlier movies used more animatronics and props in a clever and convincing way. there is an art to making film, not just slap everything on the special effects department. things like bald caps and age lines are edited out of films and tv shows. it's a valuable tool. but practical effects like makeup only aid in the SFX done in editing later on.
Even the explosion had a cgi treat, it’s better than recording Giancarlo in a green screen because the movement is more natural and involves less work to stitch the shoots.
Everything else in the show really suspends disbelief, the overuse of CGI in this scene though, the way a quarter of his head is missing and he still walks out, it's silly. Would have worked better if it was just a bunch of flesh torn off his face, and had a hand missing. I feel you could buy that a person who is in shock and bleeding out may behave in such a way, not someone who has a quarter of their head missing
The entire nature of his injuries just didn’t fit at all - he just had a bomb explode at point blank range and basically all that happened was the top layer of his skin was peeled off. I don’t like to be a buzzkill about this stuff but an explosion like that would have split his body into chunks
@@tw-xm7vqPretty sure that's exactly the idea lol, the scene wouldn't have felt good regarding gus' character if he died like you said. A remarkable character deserves a remarkable ending
This was by far the dumbest scene in the entire show, sorry. Everything else was grounded in reality but this scene was out of a comic book movie. Guy looked like Two Face.
This actually isn't entirely impossible but just extremely unlikely. There have been accounts of soldiers walking around briefly with part of their heads missing due to shock/adrenaline
@@solidNJbasically when happened in hiroshima and nagasaki. adrenaline kept some people alive barely long enough to essentially be walking corpses with missing limbs, completely charred skin, loss of eyes, etc. kept them alive for maybe even a couple minutes before their bodies succumbed to their wounds.

Man that explosion scene always felt to me as CGI
Man I love how you can just barely see gus's right eye muscle moving as his left eye looks around.

Gus is so good for hos age
This is the moment Gus became 99.1% dead
The damage really should have been on the other side of his face, but then you wouldn't have been able to shoot the scene.
Gus was good in breaking bad
Legend has said he is still alive and went to galaxy far away, became moff gideon.
That's some badass makeup.
I loved gus in pinero
More wore a better shirt for makeup than the interview!
That close to a concussive blast would pretty much destroy your innards... He's not walking no one is walking after that.
BB was incredible. But this scene was ludicrous and pure sci-fi. Ridiculous, but no show is perfect.

Gus isn’t dead
Giancarlo laughs a lot like James Spader!
omg you take 19 takes for that?! wow.....
Actually i didn't like the scene,it added sci-fi in a show which is so real
Why did they do make up but used CGI for Gus’s face? I don’t fully understand
So they probably don't blow most of their budget on cgi. Its half make up and cgi to make it more better
Are these the same people who worked on walkers?
Take 19

A 6/10 to the make-up they chose. It was unrealistic, lacking blood and gore.
To me, this is the worst scene in the show. It just doesn't fit at all, it's right out of a Batman cartoon and the CGI takes me out of it.
The best characters died, it Ruined the Rest of the greatest Show
Did not ruin anything. It added to the story and tale of walt's destruction
It didnt ruin the series. The last season was about Walt's downfall. So technically there was no major villian in the final season. It was the ending to Walt's story
He went through 4 hours of make up and 19 takes only to get SFX on his face during post... lol.
The plan was always for effects to be added in post. The make-up helps the process and makes the final product look more realistic
Yes because it's not possible to actually make someone's face look partially blown off with just makeup lol

Thought this scene never worked to be honest. Thought it was far too silly. 19 takes explains it.
Yup. Ridiculous. Doesn't fit with the show at all.
WTF was the point of doing 4 hours of makeup if they're just gonna place a 3D model over it?
It's a layout
To make it seemless, using cgi + pratical is better than just one or the other
Watch part 1. The plan was to not have to do nearly as much CGI work since it's a moving shot.
it means the CGI doesn’t have to do as much heavy lifting - It’s better to use makeup and refine it with CGI
