Hector really had no cards left to play and Walter White provided him with the possibility he'd die in a way befitting of a crime boss while also knowing he'd take the man he hated more than anyone with him. How could he possibly turn something like that down? He was already dead in every way since Fring had destroyed both the entire Salamanca family and all of Hector's associates so the entire cartel was gone, not to mention he made him a cripple who can't talk and who will slowly rot away in a nursing home with nobody to visit him except Gus Fring. We never saw Hector's reaction (that would spoil it) but I'd say Hector felt grateful Walter White granted him a revenge for while he cared little what Walter White would do after he knew killing Gus Fring would provide him with one final joy. Dying himself didn't bother him by this point.
I think the actor did a great job portraying Hector's silent struggle. Calm, then starts to cry a little bit, then that fierce look of determination... As he starts banging the bell.

It’s unlikely the traffic report people would have news on casualty numbers so soon, or at all. But, the mention of 3 dead was necessary for Walter to hear, so …
in the episode s3e9 in the meeting where walt and gus clear the air, they both are two faced. both have a shadow on one side to signify that they are ruthless, cold can do anything without any mercy or regret for their actions, and the other side is lit to show they are capable of being reasonable, nice people. it really shows about their double life. they are respected in public, but in the crime world they are both feared and respected. when his face is destroyed, it shows that his secret life is no longer a secret to the public.
When this episode first aired, I thought Gus called Hector "a crippled literati", and I was thinking "I never realized that Hector was an avid book reader". LOL
i just realized the reason gus had his face blown in half was because of a metaphor of guys- the right side: a corporate, friendly face. the left side: a hollow and cold business side
Really great metaphor to end him with. It reminds me of when Disney shows the villain's death by drawing skulls in their eyes before thier final fall, just for a frame but seeing Gus's hollowed out skeletal face and still he was able to calmly adjust his tie before passing out really sealed the man was Death himself.
I've been a big fan of Giancarlo Esposito since "School Daze" and "Do The Right Thing". He has turned into a fine actor and character actor. Character actors have long lives and careers. Norman Lloyd was 100 years old when he appeared in "Trainwreck". Keep on truckin', Giancarlo! We'll be watching!
Gus Fring is one of the best characters in the history of television. I thought Giancarlo's casting for the Mandalorian was a bad choice, that or the way the director wanted him to play the role.
Gus always chastised Walt and Jessie for having weaknesses, for being predictable. He prided himself on thinking ahead, for never showing weakness. However, when he saw the pipe bomb, he realized he made a mistake. He allowed Jessie to see his one weakness, the one thing he couldn't turn away from ever. And Jessie would have told Walt. Gus' weakness was exposed to his enemies. That's why he screamed.
Gus could have let Hector die of a heart attack. Instead he literally saved his life just to torment him. Ultimately it was his own actions that caused his undoing. And now, two less terrible people exist in that universe
Tbf he was talking about snitching. Not being interrogated by them. Gus was being interrogated by the DEA and was just answering their questions. Thats not what he meant.
I've always wondered if this were possible. Like chickens run around for several seconds with literally no heads. So could a person with half his face blown off still get up and straighten his tie and start to walk before his blood stops flowing to the brain. Maybe they are in shock and maybe the adrenaline keeps him going a few seconds? Any medical experts here?

Hector was probably on board with dying this way for 2 reasons:
1) He gets Fring
2) Fring will never get the satisfaction of killing Hector himself
Hector really had no cards left to play and Walter White provided him with the possibility he'd die in a way befitting of a crime boss while also knowing he'd take the man he hated more than anyone with him. Fring was gonna kill hector soon anyway lol. He said he saved him for last
3) Hector had nothing left to live for anyway.
Looks like Nacho turned out to be Hector's hero, after all.
