River is amazing, obviously, but Martha Plimpton (spelling?) never got enough credit for her acting skills. She could convey just as much emotion as River in any scene. Every time I saw her act, I thought...that's one talented gal. I always thought her and River played off each other so perfectly. Great pairing. It was exciting anticipating another film with River Phoenix back then. He was one of a kind, there's no question. I must get these movies in my collection.

He was considered to be the next James Dean because of his raw talent and vulnerability on film. Have you seen " My Own Private Idaho?" He was a beautiful, talented man.
This movie is SO sad-a family who must constantly move and live under a number of false names simply for the sake of self-protection and survival. Heck, this movie is even like Firestarter, in terms of just that core element; being forced to constantly move and live under false names, never staying in one place for long, on account of being wanted by some kind of authorities. And in this case the two sons are running from a crime they never even had anything to do with(hence the title, of course). It’s just that older son Danny(River Phoenix) is almost 18 and about to graduate from high school, whereas younger son Harry is only 10, but we do hear mom Annie say that once Harry becomes of age is when Annie and Arthur plan to finally stop running and turn themselves in. We also hear her tell Arthur,”We should have left Danny with my parents, and never have had Harry; having only one kid in tow was hard enough.” And the way Danny looks just before the end as he’s saying goodbye to his on-the-lam family FOR GOOD, NEVER to see them AGAIN-as if he’s at their funerals-well, for just THAT REASON-because he IS NEVER going to see them again, as Fire and Rain by James Taylor then starts to play as the movie comes to an end.
I know right !! The ending broke my heart and seeing Rivers character reaction to them leaving him behind was so sad too!! I understood it though, he had to live his own life and his parents wanted him to go to Juilliard and he probably did. At least he got to stay with Lorna though !! 🥺❤️
I don’t think they were acting. I believe they were in love they were together for 3 and 1/2 years before they broke up and they only broke up because of Rivers drug addiction.( this is what i believe )
