I also agree that he looked tired here but I would also say he was an introverted guy cause he didn’t look much at the camera, he was either way really cute.
you know how everybody says he got so into his characters they wouldnt even get to know him till filming was over? you can tell hes in character while he gives this interview...he acts just like james and kinda speaks southern when he said Texas and when you watch his other interview hes completely different
@@neethuvalsan1774 probably why he got addicted to drugs...him playing the part in MOPI is what really finished screwing him up. Actors like him need to step outside their characters once the director says cut.
@@_the_little_mermaid_ I bet he took the character to heart in mopi. I felt the sadness and gloom of the life of Mike waters as a character. And just about how scorned and abandoned he was in the film
@@Mikkoliciouslatte I can imagine that since in my opinion he was unhappy in real life, just by analyzing his childhood you can see he probably still had a lot of baggage over his shoulders and drugs were his escape. This is my perspective though, he has always given me the vibe of someone unhappy despite how handsome and kind he was. That’s why I’ll never watch MOPI, I just hate seeing him like such a mess.
@CheeseIsHxC yes, he was a method actor, always stayed in Character until the movie was done, even the director said it wasnt until the wrap party that he met the real River
I don't get why everyone who watches these videos tries to analize his every movement and word for signs of his "addiction". No one (except his close friends) even knows for sure how far his drug use went, he probably took drugs every once in a while like most young people do, but regardless here he was on set filming and he was very professional, every director he's worked with has said that. He wouldn't be on drugs during filming. He was most probably just shy because of the interview. He's like this even in interviews when he was a teenager. I could even agree with what some say, that he was living the character and was just moody James here, but seeing addiction or depression signs or whatever in every single footage of him is so ridiculous. All of his friends said he was a very happy and free person, he just hated giving interviews.
I've read three books on Phoenix, Julia. No. Just no. They had to call his agent to come up and 'baby sit' him throughout this shoot because he was fluffing his lines and missing his marks. His abuse had hit it's peak during the filming of this movie and it clearly shows IN the film. If you watch ALL of his films, including this, it becomes VERY obvious SOMETHING is different. It isn't just moody James. It's like he can hardly keep his eyes open. It's hard to watch.
Julia Pfeiffer unfortunately by this stage he'd moved on from casual heroin use to addiction. He couldn't just stop because of a film. It had gone beyond that by this stage.
I love this footage of river singing and talking about the movie because i LOVE the movie!!! I wish i can see more of river playing guitar and singing..river so intelligent and amazing! colleen phoenixoxo
I was a teenager when he passed, and was absolutely crushed by it...and I’m one who’s choosy about which celebrities effect me. His was a beautiful light, gone much, much too soon!
I love him so much. Just looking at him he was in so much pain💔🙏🏼😪 I wish I was there to hold him and tell him everything will be okay💙 RIP River Phoenix❤️❤️
He looks different in here, He looked stress and something off. I think he’s depressed here.. But need to do it.🥺🥺 Gone too soon. Honestly, I love to rewatched all river’s movies but this i can’t cause i know this is the second to his last movie.☹️
The drugs were really starting to take hold of him. So sad and what a waste He was just a great great talent. Trip. I can't believe he'll be gone 30 years in October. He'd be 53 years old this August. And I can only imagine the extraordinary body of work he would have had by now.
Lots of people have compared him to Johnny depp and brad Pitt Leo dicaprio and actors of the 80s and 90s . Work and charity wise. I'm just wandering if he would have married Samantha gone back to Martha . Or dated lots of models or played the field . But quess we'll never know.
He would never date lots of models, "play thee field",;that is what makes him so darn special. No one compares to him...never will..they dont make them like this no more....
I actually agree. Or more, Harry Styles suddenly turned into River overnight. I remember seeing him on Graham Norton in 2014 I think, when he had grown his hair, and thought JESUS WHEN DID HARRY START LOOKING LIKE RIVER PHOENIX? Have you seen Dunkirk? There's a scene where he reminded me so much of River in MOP Idaho.
you can tell he's either not at his healthiest here becos his hair is so stringy and lifeless which it was never! up until 93 here or he is terribly unhappy during the time of this film as his voice is so monotone and dreary (or both)... the most i have ever heard it in any of his interviews up until this point of his film career ... the traces of his decline and untimely end are all too present in this interview its strange and unsettling to watch .. i can just see it all x'(
Yeah I agree if u look at earlier interviews from like 1988 hes much happier, enjoying acting, no drugs, but after MOPI totally changed, appearance, and a somewhat diff attitude to previous interviews. . Its sad to see the decline, Ppl offered it help, Sad story RIP
It's a lethargic, almost comatose performance. He mumbles. He stares through half closed eyes. It's as if he's barely able to stay awake through the whole film. You watch it now, knowing what we know, it's impossible to deny.
Nicola Richardson what decline are you referring to exactly? He WAS NOT an “addict” (as CLEARLY stated in his autopsy). “No traces of drugs in his organs, bloodstream, body tissue, teeth etc”. If he was an “addict”, drugs would have shown up in the autopsy. It’s not fair to prejudge him based on what tabloids print .

I agree. It's a bloody awful film! Mathis is cute as hell but if it wasn't for the fact River is in it, I couldn't have finished the flick. I've seen it once, won't watch it again. It's yawn worthy and yes, it's OBVIOUS River's not entirely 'present' for the duration.
@@freddybeer It's crazy that they just kept filming. They should have fired him, or forced a production break, or something...it's so obvious something was wrong. And dear lord Samantha's mouth. I don't know what is up with it, but it's painful to watch her.
