The possible metaphorical interpretation of his lyrics was really something that drew me to his music after I listen to this. Because I didn’t know if “syrup sandwiches” was literally that, a staple amid poverty, or something pertaining to cough syrup. He not only shines an incredible light on poverty, but also speaks metaphorically about greater things in life.

The same goes for his line in mad city with “innocent Kendrick with a basketball and some now n laters to eat”, that’s a huge ghetto staple when you’re a kid

Not only his writting but how Kendrick Lamar makes albums is insane, "To pimp a butterfly" is one of the greatest albums of music in general.
Also Kendrick's - "How much a dollar costs?" Is one of the greatest storytelling songs ever written and it's so clever how he connects each song on that album.
There is not a single bad Kendrick Song
Master of the concept album.. If you have an appreciation for such check out UK artist Dave and 2019's Psychodrama and for me the album of 2021, We're All Alone In This Together, not quite To Pimp A Butterfly in terms of flawless concept album but extremely close
