One of the only films that i left the Cinema feeling *angry, sad and happy about seeing this masterpiece*
I agree. The movie made me care for them so much that when that ending hit I felt legitimate anger.
This movie makes me hate Ford so much

I'm not really into cars or the racing scene. I happened to have a few spare hours to kill in between jobs and randomly picked this movie as it filled my free time. What an amazing movie, it keeps you at the edge of your seat the whole time. Two and a half hours long felt like an hour.
I agree, even a year later I still think about this one. 2019 was something else for movies
"There's a point at 7,000 RPM... where everything fades. The machine becomes weightless. Just disappears. And all that's left is a body moving through space and time. 7,000 RPM. One of the greatest stories in motor racing history. Right along side the rivalry/friendship of Niki Lauda and James Hunt.

DawnOfTheOzz Yeah, I thought Rush was a fantastic movie. Unfortunately, it was pretty overlooked in the states. Racing movies, at least in America, aren’t usually all that popular. The 24 Hours of LeMans, WRC & Formula One racing doesn’t have much of a following in the US.
And, like cycling, it does have its crazy adherents (I get up at 3 in the morning so I can watch the mountain stages of the Tour de France live), but it makes up a pretty small percentage of the overall population. I think NASCAR is the only type of auto racing that has a significant following & I believe even that is waning to some extent. I hope this movie is well received here, as it will give movie makers the confidence to pursue films about racing & possibly other sports that could be considered ‘fringe’ in the US. How about a great lacrosse movie, anyone? 🤣
DawnOfTheOzz I would say those are THE top 2 stories in motor racing history
@@susanmaggiora4800 I feel like racing movies aren't given enough credit as with other sports movies. Granted, most of them haven't been that good *coughcough*Driven*cough*, but unless a racing film takes a comedic turn like "Talladega Nights" or is focused around a dog living with his master, like that "The Art of Racing in the Rain" which centred around IMSA racing, no one would give a crap. "Grand Prix" from the 60s came close to excellent, showcasing the visceral nature of F1 and the dangers of racing cars inches from death. "Le Mans" was just OK with barely a plot and was only saved by some kickass cinematography. "Winning" with Paul Newman was also just OK, not much to say about it. Mind you, a film about the WRC would be awesome, especially during the Group B era when the cars were nothing but snarling eldritch abominations with exhaust pipes.
@@DawnOfTheOzz I don't think anyone would have the balls to recreate the monsters of Group B
Matt Damon’s best performance ever! In usually don’t think he’s that great because he’s always “matt damon” instead of who he’s portraying. He killed it as Shelby.
*Here in the Netherlands, the film is called "Le Mans '66".*
Same in the UK.
I found that to be a better title.
Here in America nobody knows what Le Mans is :(
Everywhere except the US I think. They must have been worried that Americans would think it was a French period drama and steer clear.

So this is absolutely crazy to me. I came to work on this movie as an extra last year and was lucky enough to be given a line and have been even luckier to have made the final cut of the film as well. Not only is it surreal to see Chris review this after having watched him for years, but to have the first movie that I get to be a part of receive an A from him makes me so excited. I'm a big fan of Christian Bale's acting, but I honestly think that this role is my favorite. There's just something so right about it. He plays it so well and it seems effortless. Beautiful work. Also, I'm not a race car enthusiast, I don't even care about cars at all to be honest, but the racing scenes in this movie are brilliant. I felt like I was in the race and it was so much fun!
Chris: “If you want a movie with races and cars going fast, you’ll get that.”
Jeremy Jahns: “if you’re looking for a racing movie, this isn’t the film’s focus.”
Well there's a difference between not delivering on car races and them not being the focus. The focus of Winter Soldier wasn't action but it did deliver on action.

Compared to 2018, 2019 is much better when it comes to movies
@@thegroove14 The only movie I even liked in 2018 was the Sisters Brothers and that's it. Nothing really appealed to me in the long run.

Since you brought up not seeing Josh Lucas in a movie for awhile, I'd highly recommend All Square. Such an underrated gem from last year.
Josh Lucas was incredible in Wonderland. To this day I don't get why that movie is so hated. It's also Val Kilmer's best. (In terms of starring roles at least. Clearly Heat is the best film he was ever in.)
Heat, in general, is one of the greatest films ever made (and not a lot of people know that it's a remake of an earlier attempt by Michael Mann, he just mastered it with De Niro and Pacino). That ending always gets me. I'll have to check out Wonderland sometime as well. Thanks for the recommendation, Jerry.

I am really looking forward to this movie. Some scenes of the Trailer reminded me of "Rush" by Ron Howard. I hope it is as good as "Rush" 'cause it is amazing imo. Would you say you can compare these two films?
This is not a traditional racing movie.
@@zzygyy Rush isn't either...
It’s better than rush
I've seen both: Personally I prefer Rush but that's mainly because Rush didn't feel the need to turn anyone into a villain. Josh Lucas' character (Leo Beebe) is kind of vilified in Ford v Ferrari; not Lucas' fault at all, infact all the performances in the film are pretty strong, but it makes the character feel so one-dimensional when actually there could have been a much more interesting conflict regarding Miles' lack of respect for team orders. Instead Beebe just comes across as cartoonishly vindictive towards Miles, when a more nuanced portrayal mentioning Beebe's motivations would have worked so much better. In Rush, Ron Howard showed the POV's of both James Hunt and Niki Lauda so that you sympathised with both sides at different points in the film, whereas Ford v Ferrari is almost entirely one-sided from Miles and Shelby's POV throughout. There's nothing wrong with that, but the conflict with Beebe does feel incredibly forced.
Wasn't there a big accident on la mans racetrack in 50s?
The trailers already got me pumped big time... the characters, the humor, the cinematography, the editing.... so perfect! This is what movies are all about for me! Love it and can't wait to see it myself. I'm glad to hear it delivers... and at a whopping two and a half hours as well!
One thing this film nails is what it's like to tag along with your dad at the track when your a kid. It brought a big smile to my face. Made me vividly remember going to Maple Grove and Englishtown with my dad as a kid.
As racing fan: thank you so much for calling racing a sport!
I know right. Because he said he doesn't like racing and his review on "Rush" movie was pretty disappointing.
“There is a moment during the race, a moment when you hit 7000 rpm” this movie was beautiful to any gear head like me despite the historical inaccuracies.
And all of the unnecessary CGI
This was not a documentary.
I wish out of the money sent for this movie they would race at real daytona not auto club
I watched the documentary about this very race so I know how it plays out, but I’m so looking forward to the movie with all the added drama etc. Thanks for a great review, as always, you are the man.👍😎
Felt so good to hear this review and now I can't wait to watch it.
Chris Stuckmann: There's no comic book people in this film...
Chris Bale: Am I a joke to you?! I'M BATMAN!!
And the Punisher
I got to see this movie a little early and while I felt like it's really well made on all accounts, and I can't technically point out any specific shortcomings, something about it felt a little lacking. Like this is a very good movie but for some reason I can't really see myself ever thinking about it again further down the road. Maybe if I was more into cars I'd be singing it's praises more but outside of that I'd put money down that this one will be forgotten as soon as Oscar season wraps up.
I saw FvF at a surprise preview screening Monday night (or rather Le Mans '66 as it's called here in the UK). And a very welcome surprise it was. It's brilliantly shot. Both leads are superb, Bale especially and it really flies by. I'm not a big fan of actual motor racing but it does seem to lend itself very well to movies. Along with Rush this was one of the most thrilling cinema experiences of the last few years.
Once again, killin the T shirt game. Great review as always Chris!

Your reviews make me appreciate the movies more. I never think about all the work and planning that went into making a film. But when you point it out, i see the film in a new light.
It’s great I saw it last Monday at a secret advanced screening and it’s your typical sports movie kind of formula but it’s really elevated by the pace and the great performances (Bale is fantastic but duh). It doesn’t feel it’s length at all and that’s coming from someone who isn’t all that bothered about sports movies/cars or racing in general so highly recommend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

To all of you saying that "its November" so what? this year is still stacked nonetheless (not to mention films he was more moderate on but still liked, like Midsommar, Dragged Across Concrete, Haunt, John Wick 3, and El Camino which he hasn't reviewed). this is the best year for film since 2014.
And there is still more to come that premiered in film festivals like Waves, Marriage Story, A Hidden Life, THE IRISHMAN FFS, The King, Uncut Gems, The Old Man and the Gun. This year may even be BETTER than 2014.
and this does not even mention the god damn highlight of the year which i am incredibly surprised Chris hasn't reviewed, Nicolas Winding Refn's spectacular, spectacularly slow, and spectacularly stylish 10 episode TV show Too Old to Die Young, which in my opinion is the single best thing to come out of 2019 and trumps Chernobyl.
so this totals to 27 great films in my opinion to come out so far this year, and it isnt even Oscar season aka December yet. not to mention some really great TV shows.
It's a shame two particular writers had to fuck the whole year up for an entire massive community of loyal and loving fans...
