My first car at 16 was a 1966 Must GT with the K code Cobra engine. Basically the same engine minus the tri Y headers. I had a lot of fun with that car.
I think Matt and Christian both did an amazing job in capturing the essence of Carol Shelby and ken’s story 👍🏼, it’s not everyday that you get to play Jay’s hero in a movie, 😆

@@sherryda2018bb - We saw it on Friday. It was a pretty good movie. Hollywood exaggerated parts of it, but not to bad. It was a little long, but overall a pretty good movie. I'm glad I saw it.

I recently finished a Ford FE 428 cid engine complete rebuild. I'm a hobbyist but a pretty good DIYer at most things mechanical. The engine came from a 1966 T-Bird 'Q Code' Convertible in great condition. My Father-In-Law passed in 2020 and it was one of his several Muscle Cars. He removed the big engine in the 1980's but no one in the family knows why it was removed. I found piston #7 to have some bad carbon build-up so I assume bad rings or valve guides. The engine was rusted up and hanging on an engine stand. I will say..."wow"....those ole engines were heavy duty. I built a few Chevy big blocks (427, 454, 502) and the Ford is big and heavier built I think than a comparable Chevy. Both are wonderful designs from 50 plus years ago. Ford was doing it right back in the day. Saw the movie and yes very accurate. The Ford 427 cid is the legend for winning La Mans in the GT40. Very durable power from a big block turning 7000 RPM for 24 hours. Legendary. America does know a thing or two about winning car races.
@Dogurasu Ferrari won by not selling out to Ford. Ferrari is still racing at the top level, F1. If Ferrari had sold out to Ford, it probably won't be racing in F1 because Ford, like all American big3, is not really into top class racing.
@@bbb462cid Wow!, that's a rare engine these days, lately I'm driving a Lincoln HD332 in a "59 Ford C-800 truck. It's not a power house but it gets the corn to the elevator. Be safe my Ford driving friend.

Will this movie try to portray the points of view of both players (like they did in the movie Rush) or will this be the totally "unbiased" "underdog" story of the guys that worked for the large car corporation that tried to buy the small italian brand? Because the name of the movie would suggest so
So glad Hollywood still has some people with balls to make a real movie like Ford v Ferrari. We need more films like these today more than ever. Plus it was a great film in general.
@Irvin Hoover - Interesting because I had a 1980 Mustang turbo 4 and the best part of that car was the car itself - not the engine. Ford didn't really have any turbo experience and they had problems with the '79 version, but supposedly they were corrected by 1980 - they weren't! It was poorly engineered with the catalytic converter just off the exhaust manifold and the turbo right off it. The cat disintegrated and blew the turbo at 60,000 miles. The engine was the only (but big) issue I had with the car. It was a fastback with TRX wheels and fat Michelin rubber and I splurged for optional Recaro seats - they were great. I would have preferred the V6 with a 4 speed but Ford only offered it with an automatic. Too bad, as I said, the car was fine but the engine was piss poor. Bought 2 VW GTIs after that! In fairness to Ford, ALL American companies produced their share of the crappiest excuses for a car in the 80s.
Practical effects doesn’t mean 100% real. I’m not sure that was pure CGI. Either it was some of the best CGI or more likely they wrecked a real (replica) car and composited it into the scene with the GT40.
errant3. If the cars are real physical objects doing what’s seen on camera, it’s typically considered a practical effect. Even if computers are used to splice the shots together.

Edward Grant Really? That’s who you’d choose? A guy from Boston to play a guy from Texas? A guy 8” shorter than Shelby?
Gotta agree, Overbuilt. I like Matt Damon, but a long, lanky Texan he ain't. Matthew McConaughey would've been a better fit.
Matt Damon is a traitor. He moved from America. He loves the money he makes. In films. He should have not gotten the Shelby part. Ben could have played him better. But he cant keep is nose clean. Shawn
Shawn Beck Had no idea that Damon left the country. Figures though. Funny how he doesn’t have any problem playing an iconic American from American racing culture...
My first car at 16 was a 1966 Must GT with the K code Cobra engine. Basically the same engine minus the tri Y headers. I had a lot of fun with that car.
Driving down the road normally and then seeing those two in a Shelby Cobra that would be crazy!
You can tell Jay is a true car enthusiasts. Matt and Christian did a great job in tge movie
I think Matt and Christian both did an amazing job in capturing the essence of Carol Shelby and ken’s story 👍🏼, it’s not everyday that you get to play Jay’s hero in a movie, 😆
Phenomenal film. Hollywood does feel the weight of getting these stories right, and sure did with this film. Well done.
How fun! It was nice to see these two men together and what a nice gift Jay gave Matt from the family. Wow. I am super excited to see the movie too. Heidi
This movie will get me back in a movie theater for the first time since the last movie I actually bought a ticket for. Master And Commander starring Russell Crowe.
You're missing out... and so is your loved one in more ways than you are admitting to yourself.
I saw that movie on AFN. I just saw the trailer then they broadcast it. I thought it was a commercial, but I ended up watching the whole thing...
You really missed Rush
The driver that taped a wrench to his steering wheel was three-time F1 champion Jackie Stewart, especially for when they raced at the Nurburgring.
I'm not a car guy, there are cars that I'd like to own, but this was a good movie. "I wanna go fast!"
Great show Jay and Matt! Love you guys..
I CANT BELIEVE YOU GUYS ARE SITTING ON A 65 GT-350 WITH YOUR FEET ON THE BUMPER, LIKE ITS A OLD FARM TRUCK!!! THATS HARD TO WATCH!
Oh please... My uncle used to bang my Aunt on the hood of his GT500... I still can’t get the picture out of my head... BTW, he still has the car, but He’s been through several “Aunts”...😂😂😂
If that's the case, Dale, that hood will need some major repair... or that fiberglass is super thick! :)
Thought the same thing , i bet Mat Damon only put his Foot up when he saw Jay Leno do it first ! LOL
Bruce Greg talking like a little shoe dust is going to do irreparable damage to that steel bumper. As if it wouldn't collect more dirt while being driven than any shoe would put on the bumper. Also acting like the hood is going to collapse likenit was made of paper.....
Also, if you actually watch Leno's garage episodes, you'd realize very few people appreciate vehicles more than Jay. So the whole "the richer you are, the less you appreciate" thing doesn't apply to Jay and his vehicles.
What? You think Jay is worried about that paint. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you ! I've watched the movie three times and still not tired of it !
I’m not a fan of Hollywood but I might go see this movie.
I'm not either but I think that was in a movie were he was a janitor and a genius
Its a great movie-we saw it last night and I would def see it again. Very well done.
@@sherryda2018bb - We saw it on Friday. It was a pretty good movie. Hollywood exaggerated parts of it, but not to bad. It was a little long, but overall a pretty good movie. I'm glad I saw it.
My god. I wonder what is wrong with a nation when someone wont go to the cinema due to where it was made.
@@Gaming2020-c1b actually, a lot of people are avoiding going to the cinema due to the fact that many in the Hollywood establishment are constantly lecturing us on how awful we are. We just use the term "Hollywood" as a metaphor.
Ferrari is still around and stronger than ever. I'd say in the end, Ferrari won by not selling out to Ford, no?
They sold out to Fiat instead in 1969.
They both won. Ford is doing just fine too.
I'd rather own and work for Ferrari then Ford. Ha.
@@jimbobxcityguy5338 not just you, 10/10 guys would
@Dogurasu Ferrari won by not selling out to Ford. Ferrari is still racing at the top level, F1. If Ferrari had sold out to Ford, it probably won't be racing in F1 because Ford, like all American big3, is not really into top class racing.
Great episode. I love this channel.
those fake engine sounds when matt arrives
yeah, that was hokey
Because Matt is scared of real engines.
@@bufordt.justice4052 you mean like the one that scares Guy Martin?
@@bufordt.justice4052 so like my 462?
@@bbb462cid Wow!, that's a rare engine these days, lately I'm driving a Lincoln HD332 in a "59 Ford C-800 truck. It's not a power house but it gets the corn to the elevator. Be safe my Ford driving

I have to see this movie.Worked at a big time dealership back in the late 90's early 2000's.Clients would bring their show off cars in the service isle for every one to gawk at.The GT 40 would get every tech in the shop out of their stalls to come and have a look.Truly a wonderful American car.
I guess when you've commanded a tank in the D day landings at Normandy, you have a different perspective on driving racing cars like those
I love how Jay just sits on his half a million dollar GT350 like it was a Camry or something. He's a true enthusiast.
I recently watched that movie "Ford vs Ferrari " and I really enjoyed the movie. I like all the knowledge i obtain from watching that movie. I also think that Christian Bale and Matt Damon are incredible actors and i think they really nailed their characters roles in that movie... two thumbs up.
I met Carol Shelby in the 80s at a racetrack called Road America. It was a classic car road race weekend. It was very cool shaking his hand.
This is likely one the few movies I’ll go see in IMAX hoping that they get it right.
It's perfect
Thet got it right.
Two of my favorite people . . . I watched this clip um... many times. And Le Mans and The Martian too! Thanks Jay/Matt.
Now this is what kind of movie we need with a good storyline good racing no more Fast and the Furious
I seen up to the 2nd one and said no more.
@Cindy Sue - You "seen" up to what 2nd one?
@@Loulovesspeed Fast and Furious.
@Cindy Sue - OK. This movie, of course, is history based and F&F was just fantasy based. If you know the story of this famous duel between Ford and Ferrari, this should be a good one!
@@Loulovesspeed FnF is a remake of a black and white movie from the 50s.
Great interview. Fun idea to recapture the magazine cover. The Shelby family must have really thought highly of Matt’s portrayal of Carroll to hive him that coin. Pretty cool stuff...that’s like a an Oscar from the family who knew...
The 289 is my all-time dream car. OMG, such a beautiful beasty of a thing.
289 trumps the 427 any day
The 427 is the "real beast"!
Great show!!!! AsJay can do and so often does……great to see a friendly, enjoyable and pleasant “back and forth”…BRAVO!!!!
Will this movie try to portray the points of view of both players (like they did in the movie Rush) or will this be the totally "unbiased" "underdog" story of the guys that worked for the large car corporation that tried to buy the small italian brand? Because the name of the movie would suggest so
Fantastic movie, these guys were phenomenal in the roles !!!!! Learned alot about Carol and Ken and the history !!!!
Dear whoever runs Jay's youtube channel:
The description of this video is incorrect.
P.S. please don't ban me I like your vids
so .... CNBC has Fake News is what you're saying? :p
Jay was just about to have a drive of the electric Merc but Matt Damon suddenly showed up.
I concur
Love that photo recreation! Crazy what technology can do
A whole movie about Shelby's life would be great
It's coming from Adam Carolla in mid-November. It'll be far more tral than Matt Damon's Hollywood fantasy.
So glad Hollywood still has some people with balls to make a real movie like Ford v Ferrari. We need more films like these today more than ever. Plus it was a great film in general.
Minor point but the 289 Hi Po from Ford was rated at 271 HP. Shelby quickly bumped it up to 306 HP with a cam, headwork and headers in the Cobra.
Jay and Matt bloody legends , down to earth . Just really nice blokes.
“nothing’s CGI”
shows cgi clip
Practical effects doesn’t mean 100% real. I’m not sure that was pure CGI. Either it was some of the best CGI or more likely they wrecked a real (replica) car and composited it into the scene with the GT40.
@@JSchroederee so cgi??? The fact that they filmed a car before and then put it in, doesn't mean it's for real...
errant3. If the cars are real physical objects doing what’s seen on camera, it’s typically considered a practical effect. Even if computers are used to splice the shots together.
@@JSchroederee yeah, but the point is the scene is not for real.
crash was real and cgi was used just a bit to make it look perfect.
Awesome interview. Love both these guys. Classic people.
