Best looking Mustang ever produced in my opinion.
I prefer the '80s Mustangs. This doesn't look far off different than the new Mustang.
+Andrew Piatek Please tell you're a troll. Otherwise thats sad
lol he means the fox body mustang and I'm sure none of you are car guys
+Charlieswag9000 I'm sure I've own 2 so get lost little boy.
thomascampr youve owned 2 fox body mustangs? and you say its bad?
I've always thought that the 69 was the best looking Mustang ever.
me too
Me too!
I thought the '70 was equally good-looking, and the '67-'68 was not far behind.
Same.
Agreed, most muscle cars looked the best during 1969. The charger, camaro, chevelle, mustang, el camino. The list goes on.....
My Dad has a 69 Boss 429 he bought Brand New upon returning from Vietnam. 370 hp is laughable. They were easily a 430-450 hp car and a carb , cam and distributor advance recurve puts the Boss 429 easily over the 500 hp mark. A simple cam change makes the Boss 429 a monster . Woke up is a understatement !
Aren't you glad he kept it.
370hp is probably the rating in SAE Net, when most cars were rated in SAE Gross.
Absolute rubbish 1500 bhp 😂😂😂
Gobbless
All to get slaughtered by a hemi or 440 6 pack with the same mods
My Grandfather bought a Brand New Red Boss 429 in 1969. His Father told him he would get bored of it in a year. He still has the Car, a Survivor, Unrestored and he still drives it a couple times a month.
"It's the strongest old guy in the world, it's old but it can still punch you in the face." Best quote ever
Granturismo like Jack Dempsey
That Dolly Parton doing gymnastics analogy was a little better. Anyone who has driven a big block V8 powered '60s car can appreciate that one. My own experience was with my '69 Corvette 427 coupe. It was the L36 single four barrel version with cast iron heads and it had the F41 handling package. I bought it when it had 69K miles on it in 2003, but handling was a complete joke. I think my '00 Camaro Z28 would have easily outhandled it.
Jay was lucky the owner didn’t punch 🤛🏻 him in the face for beating on his Stang. Dude has some guns 💪
@@tomtheplummer7322 that's probably was why Jay was so nice to him , hell how often have you ever heard Jay offer money that quick to someone ,,,,, hahahah
I owned '70 BOSS 429 when I was nineteen. It was Pastel Blue, one of just eighteen finished in that color. Only changes I made were to install headers, an 850 Holley double pumper, disabled the smog pump and thermactor system and disconnect the rev limiter. Completely changed the performance. Biggest regret of my life was selling it.
Thanks now I got find one try build one like that
V8gas you could still do that today... I mean they still cost the same price (adjust for inflation) but most teens are too lazy to work for the money.
,
@@raph_csg no, no you can't. Money isn't worth as much as it was back then and the cost of the living has gone up. Meaning , if I could go out today and buy a brand new gt350 for 25,000, then that would be a fair comparison.
Double pumper? I guess you can forget about gas mileage. I would to love to experienced how it ran with headers on it.
Can you imagine an era where you could drive a 429ci as a daily driver
1969
7L wonder what the mileage would be with today's fuel prices.
A man can dream
You still can ,why couldn't you . I daily drive a 454.
@@RodeshionI daily a 460 ford :(, 8mpg
My favorite muscle car of all time. If I ever hit the lottery....
Bro...collecting classic cars
One of the top 10 coolest cars that will ever be made.
what a car... absolute pinacle of Mustang pedigree
In my opinion that is the Mach 1 SCJ.
It's slower.
+GlassTopRX7 No, it's not. I can assure you.
Yes it is by half second or more if everything is equal.
Yes, this and the 67 shelbys. GT 350 and 500's.
Even the name „Mustang BOSS 429“ sounds brutal.
If you remember "boss" was a teenage slang expression for something really cool in those days, but Larry Shinoda, the father of the Boss 302 and Boss 429 called them that because they were stuck for a name and he'd been given direction from Bunkie Knudsen to come up with these cars, so he named them after his reason for creating them, the boss.
In 1969 my friend took his girlfriend with him to a Ford dealership. Back from Vietnam for a few months, he had an idea of what he wanted. He checked out a white Boss 429 Mustang that he really wanted. His girl wanted to travel the US and wanted a new customized van. The girl won out. To this day I tease him about it. The girl and the van are long gone. I own a '69 Mach 1 and a '66 GT Mustang Fastback. I think he actually hates me ;) Youngsters, NEVER take your girlfriend car shopping with you.
NEVER!
PasswordBosco thanks for the advice as a 20 year old my self I’ll be sure to use it! Haha. Would hate to end up with a van instead of a mustang...
Ok Sargeant Dan .
I have a feeling you liked his girlfriend
rnr gangsta yea his friends ex is now his wife. They been banging ever since. To this day his old friend doesn’t know.
A lot of people compare their favorite brands manufactured, with the big block of course, I am a die-hard Mopar guy. But anyone watching this video can never deny the impact of the Ford Boss 429 Mustang. So many beautiful cars back then and this is for damn sure one of them. Respect.
I'm a die-hard Ford guy, but you can't deny the impact mopar and the Hemi had on Nascar, on Ford and the muscle car market
If I had the money, there would be a 69 Coronet and a 70 Sport Fury between my Fords. And a 70 Buick GSX, but thats another story :D
I went to a car show in Ventura California back in the mid 1980's, and a top executive from Ford pulled up with an enclosed trailer , and had one of these Boss 429's inside....he backed it down the ramp, parked it...and I went up to look how many miles it had on it...356 miles. That car is likely worth 500,000 today.
Same here, im a lifelong Mopar guy but the "boss 9" is without a doubt one of the holy grail cars
I was kid in 1969. That year my mom wanted a new Mustang. I went with my dad to the Ford dealerships on the weekends to test drive what they had. I remember riding in new Mach 1's but not a Boss 429 that I can recall. My dad really wanted a 4-speed and my mom wanted an automatic. We, of course, got an automatic. There's one thing I bet they can't replicate when they restore one nowadays - the new car smell of a 1969 Mustang. It was unbelievable. I've never smelled it since. I've been told the smell was actually adhesives. Regardless, man did they smell good.
My dad ended up buying a 1969 Mustang 302 Grande automatic. I remember it was $3,200. It had the same interior as that Boss 429 (including that fake vinyl wood trim). The horn on the inside of the steering wheel was kind of a gimmick. Ours used to stick and go off on its own in the summer when the interior would heat up. It would actually run the battery down. Random people used to pop the hood of our Mustang and disconnect the battery to turn the horn off. Then they would leave a note under the wipers. This happened several times. My dad ended up disconnecting the horn with a pair of wire cutters.
I had a 71 T Bird with the same horn setup. pretty weird, lol.
My dad had a red on red 70 Mercury Cyclone GT 351C with same horn under the rubber ring in the steering wheel.
So basically you're a glue sniffer...
yes yes yes ... the good old days .
+Patrick Simmons
and probably likes the Shocker
My good GOD. My absolute favourite car of all time. Even as a kid I knew this was something special. What a beauty.
The face on that car has a one of the best muscle car “mean” look.
70 chevelle is better
You can't beat those 64 - 69 Mustangs for styling.
@@nathanlopez3178 I always liked how the 69 70 Chevelles looked simple in their styling but sleek and strong looking at the same time. The sound of these 60s and 70s cars perfectly matches their look.
The Mustang isn’t a muscle car, though. It’s a pony car, a class of car named after it, even though it wasn’t the first of that type of car. The Plymouth Barracuda was first, by a couple weeks, but the Mustang was so popular that this new class of car was eventually named in its honor. Now some Mustangs may have muscle car-level power, but that doesn’t make them muscle cars.
@@justinjrebbert thank you Justin, very cool.
My grandfather, Oresto, was a master mechanic at Tasca until the late 70s. I remember Bob Tasca crying at his funeral. Very moving. My grandpa and I used to work on cars together--well, he worked, I watched--but my memories are beautiful.
Underappreciated by some...over appreciated by others..
Jay Leno....your the man
In 1000 years this car will still look perfect. This IS the penultimate Muscle Car.
It's funny to hear someone say "it could run on 91 octane gas". In 1970, the gas you could get at the pump would be racing fuel today. Sunoco sold 105 octane gas for 40 cents a gallon in 1970. 91 octane was the cheap stuff that you put in your lawn mower.
was it leaded? I remember all the stations had regular & unleaded.
@@BigAlWillis leaded, all of it was leaded in the 70's from what i can't remember...............lol

"It's a bit like Dolly Parton doing gymnastics..." And then, Jay does these hand motions, saying "certain parts override other parts..." ...OMG, that almost made me snarf my coffee! What a funny guy!
Jay's still got it.
'69 was simply the best looking Mustang of all.
I didn't know anyone in 1969 that didn't want a Boss 429, I don't know what Leno's talking about, everyone knew it had more ponies than 375.
The street version of that engine was really restricted quite a bit by Ford from the factory. Ford was a pretty conservative manufacturer at that time when it came to putting their high performance engines into street cars when compared to companies like Dodge, Plymouth, and Pontiac. The BOSS 429 came with a tiny 735 cfm carb, a way too mild camshaft, and a really restrictive exhaust system with a smog pump. Radical race ready big blocks don't like little tiny carburetors and restrictive exhausts. Ford should've used the same solid lifter cam that they used in the 429 SCJ in the BOSS 429. The BOSS9 was actually pretty disappointing in stock form...especially since they cost about $5,000 new...really expensive for that time compared to most other muscle cars. The 428 CJ Mustangs had quicker 1/4 mile times then the BOSS 429s did and you could probably get one for $1,200-1,500 cheaper than a BOSS9 depending on what options you ordered with it. The BOSS9's needed a few modifications to compete with top shelf muscle cars like a Hemi Cuda or Challenger, an LS6 Chevelle, or a Buick GSX 455 Stage 1
@@jeremythompson9122 The Boss 429 had the heads and block for a stout race engine, more so than the CJ or SCJ. Street version was fluff but the potential for power was much greater w/ over-the-counter upgrades from Ford dealers. These would hold up to superchargers, while the 427 SOHC cranks and cross-bolt mains would grenade.
The cam was lumpy, the carb too small and the heads were different and not real hemi heads like the racecars had so no more than 420 horses. 428 CJs were faster on the 1/4, but the race version was a beast and far superior to the MoPar Hemi engine.
@@jeremythompson9122 I agree with pretty much all you say. And you know what the 429 was really all about, they even mentioned it in this video.
The guys that could afford that car knew it's true potential. They were buying them left and right.
I liked the Dolly Parton analogy it made me laugh.haha.
It makes you wonder if Kim Kardashian is a good analogy for Porsche 911's.
+Some Guy perfect lol
LOL
Lots of understeer, but fun to watch.
Both Dolly and the Mustang are American Treasures!
There aint nothing more beautiful on 4 wheels than a 69 or 70 boss 429 .The lines are so gorgeous and that front end is just gorgeous. No wonder a fully restored boss goes for over a quarter mill.
“It’s like Dolly Parton doing gymnastics ... certain parts over ride other parts”! 😂😂😂. Love you Jay!
my parents bought a brand-new 1968 T-Bird back in the day with the 365 HP version of the 429. What a great engine. In the T-Bird version, it was the velvet brute with torque that wouldn't quit. It literally loafed up steep grades at freeway speeds. Never burned a drop of oil, and a bomb-proof combination with the C-6 3-speed automatic. We loved it.
Is this anyone elses dream car?
Joey Howard I know this comment is over 2 years old but, yes this is one of my dream cars.

Hell yeah, and I owned a 1969 Convertible in exactly that same color, but with a 302, and it was a non-GT package, and I have never seen even a picture of a BOSS 429 in basically candy apple red before, much less a moving HD video of one that is restored to that insane degree. I would have thought the front end of that car would have pitched up WAY more than the video shows under ANY acceleration. Really a beautiful car. Hell I would have been happy with a fastback with a 351 Windsor in that year and that color.
yes this is a man's dream !!!!!!!
It's good to be Leno, every conceivable muscle/classic/sports car known to man at his finger tips.
Advantage of being rich
That will be a million dollar car some day
As far as I am concerned it already is... Love!
@Event Horizons i hope not
No it wont
Yeap , your right and guys that are buying them right now know it .
What a beautiful car. My dad had a 69 Mach 1 with a built 351W. Huge cam. It was a beautiful metallic blue gold flake. Just amazing to sit in it as a little boy and get rocked back n forth cause the cam lope at a light listening to the loud AF exhaust. The ‘70’s, those were the days…. ❤️ this 429 is so underrated. A truly Amazing automobile

A slow car by today's standards...
Hey it is not about the speed
I had a 70 Mach I with a 351 Cleveland, 4 barrel, dual exhaust with an automatic. It was the best balanced car I've ever owned. Top end was over 120 and from 70 to 115 it was astonishing for that time.
I love watching these, Jay has such a passion for anything with wheels!
Boy Jay, you were really pushing his buttons. Especially him being a Ford aficionado. I love the "Ford was getting their butt kicked, by the HEMI's chargers and all that stuff" Thanks Jay, for sharing.
It's funny because that's not even remotely what happened.

I think Jay does this to every guest that is a little too big for their boots.
HOSSMCGILLICUTTI No... I mean in the 60's. Ford is the only brand to have an engine banned from Nascar. 427 SOHC Cammer made 650 Horsepower.
nothing is sexier then a 69 or 70 Boss 429
Except maybe Dolly Parton doing gymnastics.
Maybe a 68 lol I think the backend looks sexier
That’s sexy incarnate
I like the 66 fastback front end better
A 67 Shelby GT 500 fastback with a 427 side oiler is my favorite mustang but this one is also badass.
Always loved the mustang body. The forward pitched grill. The fastback design. It screams "muscle."
'65-'70, '99' and '13 are my favorite mustangs. So gorgeous in their own right
Could be the nicest '69 Boss 429 I've seen. The '69 & '70 are my favorite Mustangs.
I think this is the best looking of all the mustangs,
scanspeak00 I purchased this car in my early 20's. It was L💝ve at first site. My father & I owned a 69. Loved it.
I agree love the colour, shape at the front, hood scoop a great looking Mustang
It MUST BE, otherwise Ford would have never gone "full circle" with the Mustang. The latest Mustangs are close copies of the late '60s cars.
One of the coolest Mustangs you could ever experience thanks J
Jay's always playing for the deal. I acknowledge and love Jay's appreciation of the vehicle, history, rebuild. Love the end. Lol. Very cool car.
Jay was clearly having his time of the month during the filming of this Stang..
I think he was brought up to believe the Boss 302 was better all around performer than the 429. He sounded like he chnaged his tune by the end of it.
I think he knows it would smoke his Hemi cars with a few mods
he is not near as entertaining as he used to be with these. instead of letting his guest tell us what is up, he wants to run his yapper.
The most beautiful Mustang ever, i love this model is just perfect, beautiful in every angle
The best version of the legendary Mustang🔥
I had a "69 GT in the '70s. Drove it into the '80s. To me, this was the best looking Mustang ever built. Wish I could say the same for it's quality. Fun while it lasted.
I agree about the so,so quality back then, especially the '68 Shelby Mustangs. The panel fit of the fiberglass hood and trunk lid was atrocious! If I saw something THAT badly assembled sitting in a showroom TODAY, I would RUN, NOT walk out of that showroom!!
im from london and thats my favourite muscle of all time!
Beautiful, awesome restoration. Very impressed with the restorer - he really knows his stuff. Thanks for producing these videos.
My daughter had a 69 hard-top-we had it painted fire engine red it was only one in the Charleston area with a 390-someone(family?) stole it from her Grandmothers property during a death in the family.Had to have had it towed because the fly-wheel had a missing tooth-someone had to see this!!
I’ve met Marcus, we go to him a lot for restoration of different parts for our cougar restoration shop. He’s not cheap though, but he does things exactly like the factory. His shop is pristine, the cars he builds are immaculate in person. He has a 100% unrestored 68 mustang with 12k original miles he uses as reference for 68 mustang builds. The car looks exactly like it did the day it was made. He’s truly an incredible dude.
Absolutely the most beautiful mustang ever produced. Can tell Jay is not a big fan based on his comments but LOVE this episode of his show. And MAN these things are getting expensive! I have owned a corvette in my time but have owned SIX different mustangs and three at present (1965, 2007 & 2014).
Any variant of the '69 Ford Fastback steals my heart
Best looking Mustang and arguably the best looking motor ever!
The first time I fell in love was with a 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback with the 351 Cleveland in it. I've wanted one of those cars ever since. I wish I could afford one. Lol.
That's not possible, because the 351 Cleveland engine wasn't available until 1970 model year from the factory.

"When Richard Petty looked
at what Plymouth (his long-time benefactor) was offering as race fodder
for 1969, and then looked over at the long-nose Ford Torino Talladega,
King Richard opted put blue paint and the number 43 on a Ford for the
year. With NASCAR running at Talladega Superspeedway for the first time in 1969, Ford
realized aerodynamics would be more important than ever. So they
lengthened the Torino fastback's nose, planted a flush grille in it, and
installed the flatter rear bumper under the grille. They called it,
appropriately, Talladega. And in order to keep Mercury in the game they
applied the same treatment to the Cyclone fastback to create the Cyclone

Brady Dog I know how you feel .When I graduated high school in 86 I found a 70 340 6 pk cuda with every option they came with .Pistol grip 4 spd.391 posi.hood pins .shaker hood scoop and when I showed it to dad he shook his head and said NO WAY ILLE BURY YOU IN THAT CAR. GOD IT WAS FAST .
Brady Dog! When I was starting out I bought a 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1. It was a uni-body creation, rusting out, with a four-by-four between the gas tank and the rear springs. It looked new until you lifted the floor mats. The owner was a mechanic and safetied it himself at his house or it never would have passed. I listened to my daddy too, keeping it to the speed limit and slowing down for big bumps. Me and the guys in the band would drive around with the windshield heater on, the best three-speed automotive blow dryer ever made. It blew even when it was off. That car was hot!
Don't believe you sorry
Brady Dog Lol! Yeah..our parents wisdom!! I had a chance to buy a ‘69 Mach 1, 428 Cobra-jet 4-spd. in ‘71....drove it and it just LIT MY 🐎🚘🔥!!!! I’d driven a ‘67 convertible with a 390 ci. 4-spd, but THIS WAS T H E ONE!! I went over to my Grandpap, AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT, and asked him if he would consider co-signing for me, as I was just out of school but did have a good job.....He listened intently, but told me that “ALAN, I’m afraid that’s just a little more car than you need” at this point”....and, of course, I’m SURE he was right, as he was a very wise man. I’m thinking he’s not only APPROVED OF THE ‘19 BULLITT that I finally have now, an homage to that Mach if there was EVER one, but riding high there beside me when I go for my trips!! He was a Motörhead back in the day, and I KNOW THATS WHERE I GOT MY PASSION FOR CARS THAT I HAVE TODAY!! Thank you Grandpap....AND F O R D 🔥🐎🚘!! This car is T H E MOST FUN YOU CAN HAVE WITH YOUR PANTS ON!! 🤔😂
That is an extremely good looking car.
I remember when our friends dad used to take us to dances, the mall, movies in his 89, 5.0L GT. Loved how it sounded, pushed us into the seats. Thinking of getting one and rebuilding one this summer.
beautiful restore - the good ol' days - Thanks for sharing Jay & Marcus
This is THE Mustang.
The pictures of the engineers next to the giant motor 😂
Jay, yours is the best car show going, period! I hope you keep doing this for a very long time.
Jay, you may want to check your NASCAR history for '68&'69. The Fords were BADASS! Cale Yarbrough became FAMOUS on the super speedways in the Wood Brothers Mercury with the 427 Sideoiler.
The Boss 9 was simply an upgrade.
Truly amazing. Absolutely Beautiful car.
I love a guy who goes overboard on details. Now...if we can see some other work from him...
Even though l was not there in that time this will be my best classic car ever produced.
Thank you. Jay you got the most awesome life. I just want to say thank you. You so lucky to be who you are. Thanks for helping people who never have a chance to be a car person.
The green overspray is a solution to check for leaks.
matrox Thanks, as he never really did explain well.
I don't know why he didn't give that explanation. I thought everybody knew it was part of the test
Actually it's not.
It's just a " pass check" thing. I order parts from China for my company and they still do the same.
@@02autogt I don't know where that idea came from.
the only ford thats allowed in my garage...good god shes beautiful
our garages are made of ford and german
ford gt
I would love a good deal on a GT
a gt40 mk 1 i could live with too.
what about ford gt40 mk3?
I love watching these, Jay has such a passion for anything in heels!
Better than ever. The 429 actually handled better than the previous models. The green paint was a way for the company to mark tested and double checked parts so it actually is not called over spray but markings rather . Most companies used yellow or red for it to be easily visible. This was for workers at the end of assembly line to see if something was missed. As far as the front lights goes this had the outboard grill lights from factory some earlier models had inboard lights in the center of the grill. Very good looking car and it sounds fantastic.
Good insight. I wonder if the builder knows this. He knows it is to be green that's for sure.
