The vast majority of people don't realize that, as you pretty much have to have racing blood in your veins for that. It's not about the win, it's about knowing you're the best, which Ken knew, only prideful people that have talent (or insane money and training) care about the win, because they think that's how they prove they're the best.

I recently had the opportunity to meet Pete Brock. He looked me squarely in the eye and told me that without Ken Miles, Shelby racing would never have been as successful as they were. Ken WAS the testing program!
Daytona, Sebring & Le Mans aren't the Triple Crown, brother. Yes, they were the races that happened in a year, but, it was and is 24H Le Mans, Indy 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix of Formula One that is considered as the Triple Crown of racing. First to do was Graham Hill.
He's saying they cooked up a rule on the spot to save face, yet it was his decision to his team to roll up together at the finish line for fun to see how the officials would sort out the mess on who won. And LeMan did.....so regardless who dominated record books say McLaren won.
I miss Carroll. He'd love to see what's out on the market today for everything including EV, hybrid, and traditional cars. Guy just loved going fast and tinkering with new technology.

The movie Ford V Ferrari portrayed the “1 2 3” idea somewhat differently, giving the impression that Shelby was against the idea. Then Shelby giving the decision to Ken Miles to “make that photograph happen” or not. This may just be a matter of semantics and/or theatrical license. I don’t know anything about the 1960’s Le Mans rule book. Carroll Shelby and Ken miles, two great men and racing legends.
