That’s why I’m glad they have managed to turn their car into a donkey this year. They don’t deserve to have a competitive one with Lance on one side of the garage
Lance Stroll is the problem , Sainz and Alonso (two Spaniards on top of that) at Astin , with Newey coming in would of given them an interesting title shot for 2026
Lawrence Stroll is the reason they are looking like they could be genuine challengers in a few years. If he wants to put his clearly disinterested son in as a driver and embarrass him every few months that's upto him. But no Lance, no title chance.
Sainz looking at the FW46: I can fix her. Reminder, he is a workaholic, very technically minded, has actually surprised Ferrari with his willingness to go above and beyond at the factory, is well respected by engineers from all teams he was at previously and, whilst correlation ain't causation, lest we forget, while he was at both McLaren and Ferrari they improved massively from a technical perspective. He can provide feedback, he does understand the specifics of multiple frontrunner cars and he has proven capable of adapting to multiple different vehicle characteristics, not to mention his strategic abilities. Williams finally improving their internal methodologies by switching to a proper parts tracking solution from Excel alongside other investments will likely benefit massively from Sainzs experience and talent.
This is not the 1960s, driver feedback is just a small piece of the car development. if the rest is trash, he will keep fall in every Q1 session in 2025.
Ferrari were on the up no matter who drove for them because the only reason they were slow in 2020 was due to an engine punishment, but in 2019 they were a front running team and the 2022 regulations allowed them to go back to that level.
Just like how he delivered season after season at Ferrari despite being fired, with no complaints, no disputes, and no letting go. What an amazing class act! Major respect, not only for the F1 driver, but also for Carlos Sainz the person.
I don't know what he delivered. 4 wins in three seasons with Ferrari, also 4 wins through ten years career. He clearly stated he's happy as No2 driver in Ferrari. Williams is his reality.
@@aleksandarcvetkovic5436Ferrari was this year finally stable for Leclerc and Sainz and Sainz was happy at a NR2 driver. But I get Lewis also. Everyone wants to drive for Ferrari
@@JoeVer-d6vYou’re not very bright are you? He tried desperately to get in the RBR next to Max and Max told RBR not to sign him. Dude scored literally 4x more points than Raikkonen as teammates and nearly blanked him in races and qualifying. Unlike Hamilton, he can drive anything, not just great cars.
@@The_ZeroLine as I said, 10 years ago. A world champion should have little to no roadblocks going back to a top team, especially for this long. Clearly he doesn't want to
@@JoeVer-d6v Well, let’s see, Ferrari had Charles Leclerc and Vettel when he came back. No space. He tried to go to Red Bull for this season. No dice. He tried to go to Mercedes for this season. No dice. So, what exactly are you talking about?
We have to stop with the "Sainz is regretting williams move" thing now. Williams is a project that will succeed under vowels. McLaren turned it around, hass is doing it too. Williams will do it. Also Sainz is coming there after driving a ferrari. He knows what made that car second in constructors, he will tell the williams engineers that. If not 2025 then 2026, but I think the Williams project with James, Albon and Sainz will definitely succeed. Williams will be a smooooooooooooth operatiooon soooon
No chance, their facilities are probably the most outdated on the grid. I can see Williams being competitive in the future but definitely not 2026, at the earliest 2030.
I wish I could believe this, but with the budget nightmare at Williams that will undoubtedly hinder development, lackluster facilities, and that promise that's been made every year, that THIS is the year, Carlos is skating uphill and more likely to leave before that team finds a way to at least get to the midfield.
AM is where they are primarily because their car is crap. No amount of talent can fix that (And no, the example of Verstappen 2024 does not count - the RB20 was still the 3rd best car on the grid even at its worst.) They and Sauber are the only teams that have failed to gain anything of much significance from post-Spring upgrades. Stroll is by no means a great driver, but he's not terrible either.
@@pao_2031 Stroll is definitely the worst veteran on the grid now. Just as an example, which driver with more than a seasons experience would you rate lower than Stroll?
Every driver struggles to drive cars built around Alonso’s feedback. Kimi, Button, Vandoorne, Massa… no guarantees that Sainz would do better than 2 WDCs.
@@paperplane-db8qf150 points with the 2nd-3rd fastest car on the grid isn’t as bad as 24 points with the 5th fastest. And Checo floored Stroll with same machinery. The only teammate Stroll has outperformed was Sirotkin, so yes maybe he is complete shit and made Checo look even better than he was.
I honestly expect him to be fighting for points each race next year. As he's the kinda driver that'll drag the car up to grid higher than it should be.
I always wonder if it's the car or the driver. It'll be interesting to see. Hypothetically, could max verstappen win a race in a Williams? I've recently started getting into f1 and I'm catching up on everything 😅
@@NeilSharksNah, not even Max could win races in a Williams, but he might well drag it a few places further up the field. Historically, Williams have been one of the top teams in F1, but for the past couple of decades they've slipped further and further behind. Will be good to see them come back though!
@@NeilSharks it is a bit of both, but the only way even someone like Max wins in a Williams is if some very weird things happen. You need a good car to win, but also a good driver.
My appreciation and support for Carlos have grown over time. He is an incredible driver and a better professional. He takes his job very seriously and looks motivated for the future. He wants to become a world champion really bad. I have much respect for him.
if his feedback does come in handy and williams can have decent car with minimum crashes monza is where it is perfectly plausible for him to have a podium or top 5 finish at least the track is historically great for williams and sainz also performs well there
I imagine that Sainz will be Williams' valuable asset in terms of its performance during next season and also for the seasons beyond next year as I think he will bring quite a lot of good feedback to the table and help the team build a progressively better car
I think Sainz will pull up trees at Williams, I think a shock podium will crop up somewhere and regular top 10 finishes, which for Williams will be just the motivation and drive they'll need heading into 2026.
Genuinely still staggered Ferrari opted to destabilise their own lineup for short term headlines with LH. Sainz well and truly stiffed when he should’ve been at Ferrari for another 4 or 5 seasons.
Oh that’s funny. Sainz had 4 years at Ferrari and delivered 4 wins. Ferrari have won bugger all since Kimi and decided to find a better driver, who just so happened to be available .A driver who with Fred as TP, previously won both the F3 and GP 2 Championships together. It’s a shame that Sainz lost his seat, but given the fact that McLaren, RBR, Mercedes or AM offered him a seat tells you everything you need to know.
Every move Carlos has ever had to make has been forced upon him rather than being one of his own making, however each time it has worked out for him. You have to chalk some of that down to luck, but the rest has to be that he can get the best out of what he is given and can actively improve any team he's a part of.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but Carlos has fallen upwards every time he's left a team and has arguably never been the "first" driver on any teams he's been on. In Torro Rosso Max was clearly better, at Renault Hulkenburg was slightly better, at McLaren Carlos was slightly better than a rookie Lando but it was clear that long term Norris would be better, and at Ferrari Leclerc is clearly better and has scored over 120 more points than Sainz. No doubt Carlos os a good driver but he is not elite and has been very lucky to have gotten in with a better team each driver switch. I just think this is a normal correction to the course of his career.
@@ndlovulwazi From what I remember, Ferrari offered him a one year extension and Carlos wanted at least 2 years. It was pretty clear that Ferrari were going to go in a different direction in 2026 with new regulations coming in but Hamilton changed that for them.
Calling this an injustice is an over-the-top exaggeration. He is simply unlucky owing to the timing of Hamilton's exit announcement. That's it. There are no guarantees in this sport. He's not the first talented driver to end up in a back marker team, and certainly won't be the last.
Aside from Williams and Hamilton, I feel like Carlos leaving Ferrari is breaking apart the best duo on the grid. It's been said to death, but Carlos and Charles are perfect side by side. And when you showed that Carlos has earned about 90% of Charles points total over his career, I think it's proof of how good he is. I don't think Hamilton is washed, not that Williams is hopeless, but the Ferrari-Charles-Carlos trio was a very strong one and they may come to regret tearing it apart.
Hamilton is the opposite, he has the ego of a 7-WDC but is he still as good as one? He just lost to Russell. He could get away with calling his car garbage every weekend and Toto will still kiss his a** but I don't think that will go down well at Ferrari.
@@As-qz5lr Hamilton actually outscored Russell this year, and has won over him 2 out of the 3 years they were together. regardless of how ppl act, Russell is easily a top 6-7 driver on the grid, and the car was obviously designed more around Russell this year as he is mercedes future. Lewis has proved multiple times this year that when hes confident in the car he can still fight for wins. hell be fine at ferrari, or at least as good as Sainz id bet
.037 off Charles this season for quali is kinda nuts. There's been so many sessions where I've seen them be a few thousandths off each other. Imo Carlos definitely doesn't get enough credit for his qualifying pace.
I think Williams are a dark horse and shouldn't be ruled out. They've invested heavily in their facilities, signed Carlos and don't need pay drivers anymore.
I have some sympathy for Carlos, but I think it has to be pointed out that if he had just stayed at McLaren and backed them he probably would have won a constructors championship this year and would have possible drivers championship machinery. I know hindsight is 20/20 but Carlos has been ruthless at times too.
I think Carlos would have put up a better championship battle than Lando, as he is better at thinking on his feet. But as many have said, you don't refuse Ferrari.
@@paperplane-db8qfnobody is pretending he’s flawless? they’re just highlighting a quality about sainz, which is that he’s good at thinking at his feet.
@@paperplane-db8qf He's not flawless, but he's fairly intelligent and can think quick in the middle of a race, like in Singapore 2023, when he held onto his victory by slowing down and keeping Lando in his DRS as a buffer against the faster mercedes cars behind.
Reminds me of Enea Bastianini going from the best motogp team down to the secondary ktm team, all the while the washed Franco Morbidelli stays at a Ducati team…
Instead of being pessimistic about him going to Williams, I want to look on the bright side: Wewill get to see Carlos Sainz's contributions be part of the effort to turn Williams around from their costly 2024 season. That is what we are guaranteed to see him do, and only time will tell if Williams turnaround is a success. If Williams and Carlos Sainz does pull back into the midfield fight, this will be a nice hat trick for Carlos Sainz, which will make it three for three historic legacy F1 teams he was a part of assisting them in their pull up back to relevancy. After beginning his career in the high pressure Red Bull Junior team partnering Max Verstappen, he was moved to Renault as part of an agreement between Red Bull and Renault back then. I believe his experiences at these two teams nurtured his mindset and independence. He joined McLaren in 2019, after a disappointing 2018 year for them, and he, along with teammate Lando Norris, began pushing McLaren back into the midfield. The second time he brought a team back from poor form was Ferrari, where he joined in 2021, after their crippling 2020 season. Hopefully, his time at Williams will also be bringing back this team into the midfield fight. For my bonus wishlist for what I do want to se Carlos Sainz and Williams do It will be great to see him sneak the Williams onto the Podium, McLaren Brazil 2019 and Ferrari Hungary 2021 style. Even better if he can strategise a Williams Race win, just like what he did for Ferrari in Singapore 2023.
I'm anticipating that Sainz will show that Albon is not as fast as he perhaps believes he is. Albon has only had Latifi and Sargent as measuring sticks, and Colapinto's initial speed proved that Albon wasn't as dominant as many perhaps thought. I hope Sainz has success at Williams, simply because he has found himself out of a Ferrari drive (that was not down to underperformance) and he deserves something good to go his way. He works hard, is fast, and hopefully finds a seam of good results that propels him back into a top team in 2027.
Sainz never seriously considered by RB since he comes with a Jos of his own, else he would still driving for RB. RB can tolerate Jos being insufferable because of Max.
At this point that's just a lame excuse. Red Bull if they really wanted, that wouldn't be an issue. They just don't want a consistent driver, that has proven to adapt well to many cars, next to Max. Max is already explosive without having a teammate pressuring him, imagine with a teammate that made him sweat or doesn't immediately get out of the way? Red Bull doesn't want to deal with that. They are fully centered around Max, to the point of sacrificing the constructor's title, which is ridiculous. Especially since Max doesn't need this protection, he has more than enough talent to deal with anyone they pair him with.
The inter-father friction when Max and Carlos were together and TR mostly came from the Verstappen side. Jos doesn't just dislike Sainz Sr., it's any driver he sees as any kind of threat to Max.
@@solduspython Agreed. Jos was an average F1 driver whose most famous moment of his career was being on fire, whilst Sainz Sr. is a certified rally legend.
Sainz improved a lot over his 4 seasons with Ferrari. To begin with he was no match for Leclerc but by the end of it they were both top drivers. Leclerc meanwhile has barely moved along his goal path from superstar signing to being a realistic contender for world champion.
Ferrari didn't give him the tools to be world champion in 2022the actually sabotaged him and this season this season Ferrari fought for a title because redbull was racing in reality with 1 car
The issue is he’s not fast enough to be a number 1 a top team can pin their hopes on but is also too assertive to do the Bottas/Perez job. There’s nowhere for him at the top. Obviously he’s a better fit than Stroll for Aston but then does that mean they’re not backing Alonso as much?
He’s plenty fast enough to be a number 1 problem is the top teams bring guys up through the ranks and keep them. Max was a RB kid, Norris was a McLaren kid, Charles was a Ferrari kid, Russell been a Mercedes kid same with Andrea.
@@zacharyradford5552 Yeah, because it's really a problem to keep Max, the best to ever do it, instead of going for a chump like Sainz. Wake up and smell the coffee, Sainz is nowhere near Max' level, never was and never will be.
Lawrence Stroll needs to give his son some tough love and kick him out. If he doesn't really want this bad enough to put effort in and drive well, then he shouldn't be there.
Big strategic miss on Aston Martin behalf by not snatching him up because of nepotism. They had a much better driver dropped in their lap and they didn’t ever really consider him to replace Lance.
Everyone is like "it's so unfair Hamilton took his seat, karma this, karma that". Meanwhile Red Bull snubs him for the second time. And this time he's proven to be consistent in 4 different cars, has experience, has beaten talented teammates, helped the teams he was on to grow in performance and consistency. But apparently it's Hamilton that has to receive the wrath of karma, while Red Bull having a second driver made of jelo, doesn't even look twice to Sainz as an option. Which is ridiculous. He was now a free agent, already worked with Max, already worked with Red Bull. His consistency would be perfect for RB in the constructor's. What do they do? Don't even consider him. All because they don't want to bother Max. They prefer to have a doormat as a second driver so they don't have to deal with Max's attitude soon Sainz did not got out of the way.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's something in verstappens contract that gives him a lot of power over who's in the second seat. He likes having a punching bag for a teammate and it makes him look better than he really is.
People think that because max is dominating perez, he must be invincible 😂 Mick Schumacher dominated Mazepin in 2021, and then got beat comfortably by magnussen in 2022. Magnuessen is then beat convincingly by Hulkenberg in 23 and 24. Neither max or red bull want a competent driver in that seat out of fear of the golden child being exposed.
Red-Bull's biggest asset this year was Verstappen, (maybe Hannah Schmidtz but she gets the benefit of only focusing on maximising Verstappen's points). Why would they sacrifice that for a driver Ferrari dismissed?
@@andrewmelton2686 don't think he'd be able to, considering they already raced each other one season and got convincingly beat by max. he'd sure as hell be a great no2 driver and 100% better than poorez, but I don't think that's the role he wants to fulfill in a top team as evident with ferrari
I have really grown to love Sainz, he has been impressive! Ever since he joined McLaren I thought he’s going to do well. I was a huge fan of his dad in rally. The way he has carried himself since Ferrari announced Lewis has been inspiring. I love Lewis huge fan and I also love Sainz sad for him but this just shows how brutal F1 can be. I hope Lewis performs well at Ferrari no doubt he will but he’s got extra pressure now because he will initially be compared with Sainz from the getgo he won’t be given that bedding in grace in a new team. Sainz will be in Aston Martin in couple years I think Alonso will give way. But mega job from Williams getting Sainz he will be a valuable asset for sure!
Well, if rumors from Italy for the last 4 years are true, then he will never have another shot at a top team. It was a lot of rumors about how toxic Sainz and his camp is, with his Cousin and Manager being the biggest asshole. Sainz also showed himself over and over again, that if he has to choose between his glory and team glory, he's always choosing his glory. The problem is that he's no consistent enough, or good enough, like Max for example, to have the luxury of doing that. Look at the last few months, when every single of his interviews included the words "I want to win the Constructor Championship for Ferrari". He always speaks like some kind of great multiple champion, but he's nowhere near, and never will be.

Exactly. He is a politician off camera and ferrari got fed up with it. How many times has he attempted to screw up Leclerc? Sainz acts as a n1, when he is actually a n2.
I like how Carlos is motivated to lead a team to success and he really means it. So many times drivers say things that they dont really believe in just so they get hired or get an opportunity. I am sure Albon and Carlos have already talked on how to handle their own prides while driving and thats the thing. Carlos is very efficient with communication. I just hope Carlos doesn’t fall off of patience. Even 7 yrs is still young considering Alonso is 43.

Sainz feels like Alonso without the titles, jumping from team to team before they got good. If he had stayed at Redbull or McLaren he would not be in this situation
"If he stayed at Red Bull". lol what? If he stayed at Red Bull (in Toro Rosso that is) he would be another footnote in F1. They never gave him a chance at the main seat, not even after proving he has talent and is consistent in different cars. What makes you think they would give him a chance if he stayed? Since the excuse they are using now is it's because of Jos and Sainz Sr. that he's not in Red Bull? The guy proved to be good at Renault, they forced him to go back to Toro Rosso. The guy proves to be good at McLaren and Ferrari, plus is a free agent, they don't even consider him. They don't want him. Which is ridiculous, unfair and a bunch of (red) bull.
Sainz is not a WDC level driver. Just look at 2022 where LeClerc was fighting Max and Perez while Sainz was getting beaten by Russell and Hamilton. Honestly 2022 Perez was somehow a better driver than Sainz. Even this season - Sainz crashed out in Brazil, Baku, Canada, Singapore Q2. Ferrari could’ve probably won the constructors if it wasn’t for all these huge errors. Like usually top driver would crash out once a season.
@@paperplane-db8qf Sainz was closer to Leclerc, than Piastri was to Norris... He did lose a few points, sure, but every driver makes mistakes. The McLaren was a faster package overall, and the constructors battle only existed because of McLaren throwing away so many points across the season.
Ferrari currently have the best driver line up on the grid. LeClerc as number 1 and Sainz a very capable but also very professional teammate. They’ve traded it in for what? Two drivers expecting number 1 status, see how the dynamics of that work out. LeClerc could get miffed if all the focus turns on LH. For what it’s work, my take is it will play out like Merc this season, LeClerc beating LH soundly, but LH throwing together a scintillating performance now and then.
People forget that after Ferrari, its Williams that is the most successful team on the grid. Ferrari is competitive now, they were not when Sainz came in. Infact Sainz even beat Charles in their first season together in that shitbox
That was a long time ago. Last WDC and WCC was in 1997 with Adrian Newey designing the cars through the 90s, once he left the success followed him to McLaren. Frank Williams & Patrick Head are long gone too. F1 requires way more money than what independent team can generate (unless they get the backing of another billionaire like Lawrence Stroll).
Just because Binotto massively fucked up a championship challenging team doesn’t mean Ferrari were not competitive. It’s not like Sainz magically turned it around. And he only beat LeClerc due to luck and reliability issues.
I want to go out on a limb and say, depending on contract terms, if Carlos show immediate pace in the Williams, Stroll may feel pressure inside and out to give his sons seat to Carlos. One thing we scan over with Stroll is that he refuses to give anyone around his son’s age a seat. Overpaying for past champions can only last so long since the grid is getting younger. We’ll definitely see a more wreckless stroll if the rookies come in and show better pace.
I personally think Williams and Carlos got a great deal here and I wouldn't be surprised if one day Carlos says it was the best move he ever made. James is one of the new TP's and he is building Williams from the ground upwards. That means they will be innovating everything. From previous interviews with James and Alex, you get the sense that he listens and values his drivers input. He's mentioned several times that Alex has spent a lot of his time helping his team mates, supporting them and even giving them advice on turns, gears etc. This is something you don't hear often. So thinking about it, out of Carlos and Lewis. I feel Carlos won't have the political house of cards like they do at Ferrari. He can put himself into the team and 2026 car.
The thing that still doesn't make sense is that Mercedes (or Toto) didn't sign Sainz and prefer a kid like Antonelli that still hasn't proved that he had what it takes to be in F1. Even the situation isn't fair for the F2 champion and runner-up: Bortoleto is going to Sauber, the last team of the grid, and Hadjar only had a test with Red Bull but nothing else, while Antonelli has a place in a top team without having a great season in F2, winning only a race and a sprint and finishing in 6th position.
Sainz is roughly a Russell level driver. A bit slower most likely. Why would they get rid of Lewis for a second Russell? They’re taking a swing for the fences with Kimi while waiting for Max to become a free agent.
Its all on Redbull, Carlos Sainz is undoubtedly the perfect replacement for Sergio Perez but now RB are too late so they now have to rely on Lawson an unexperienced rookie whos not impressed in the races hes been in & disregarding Yuki because of Honda. Carlos Sainz going to Williams will be very good for Williams to move into the upper midfield I do believe James Vowles has made a perfect move & done Redbull in a way. Redbull have basically had their pants pulled down with Sainz going to Williams and only now deciding Perez isnt good enough
They never wanted him. Pérez proved he wasn't good enough by the midpoint of the year. Sainz even postponed his decision because of Red Bull, still they tried to play him, like they did back when he was at Renault, forbiding him from renewing with them and forcing him to go back to Toro Rosso. If they truly wanted him, they would immediately jump on the opportunity. Remember, they renewed Pérez when he was on the worse slump of performance of the season. Not in the beginning when he was doing ok. No. At the exact point he was being the worse driver, "here, have some more years with us".
@@The_Curious_CatI do agree about the Perez contract but I think they only did it because they thought he would come back in the season and that this when their cars' fundamental issues weren't exposed and they didn't much about the problems. I don't think Redbull knew Perezs form would get so bad and probably thought giving him a new contract would help him out in confidence, clearly it hasnt
Rather disingenuous to not mention that he was offered a year's extension to his contract by Ferrari but he turned it down as he was holding out for more. That tactic is what cost him his seat as, when Lewis suddenly became available, Sainz was the one left without a seat in the game of driver musical chairs. I fear he's also made a huge mistake going to Williams rather than Sauber/Audi. Forget where Sauber are now and remember that Audi have made a huge success of pretty much every category of motorsport they've entered. Time may not be on his side but I still feel Audi will be winning races before Williams.
Whether or not Ferrari should have signed Lewis isn't the issue. The fact is that Sainz left himself open to being replaced by any other driver by virtue of playing hardball over his contract while Leclerc had already signed his. He gambled and lost and is at least partially culpable in all of this, something completely omitted in this video.
I agree with the first part but not the second part. Sauber seem unprepared and all rumours are that the Audi engine is also a disaster which will be down on power too. Binotto himself has said he has no hope for the Audi to be the best engine and that the engine is far behind and it will be simply about minimising the power deficit IIRC.
Accepting a 1 year deal is just kicking the can down the road. Ferrari, only being willing to offer a 1 year deal at most shows Sainz that they don't consider him a long-term prospect. Honestly, a 2 year deal for 2025 and 2026 would've been great for both parties. Keeping Sainz just for 2025, then replacing him in 2026 means their new driver won't be up to speed with the team for the regulation change. Kinda crazy that they went with Hamilton instead of Sainz, but Hamilton is more for marketing than his speed I guess, they already know Leclerc is their number 1 and Lewis won't trouble him, which Sainz did... occasionally.
I'm a big fan of Carlos because of his racecraft and teamwork and how he's been steadily removing mistakes from his driving and improving the areas where he had a deficit to his teammate. I think the real question in his move to Williams is Albon. We are penciling them into a repeat performance from Alex plus a bundle of points from Carlos translating into 6th in the championship but Albon has been on easy street for years with no pressure at all from Latifi and Sargeant so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to being beaten by his teammate from time to time.
Injustice??? You did not follow his time at Ferrari close enough. He never finished above p5 in the championship with Ferrari. If Norris, Charles or George was available all the top teams would have signed them on the spot. He is not a team player. His and his entourage politics, the lack of true team spirit and especially not keeping pre race agreements make the team a toxic environment. He thinks he is the nr 1 driver. He does not have the talent to back up his ego.
That's a bit harsh, but has much truth in it. I disagree with the toxic environment, they got along with Leclerc well - maybe because despite the occasional shenanigans, Charles knew he can beat Carlos, and most of the time he did. But yeah, there was really no contest when shit got serious, like early 2022 or this year after Monza when there was a small glimpse of hope for a title fight. Until it was taken away in Singapore, Leclerc has beaten Sainz every race by quite a margin.
This is the storyline I am looking forward to most in 2025. Love Williams and I’ve always enjoyed Sainz’s attitude. I sincerely hope it’s a fruitful relationship for both.
It's not unfair by any stretch, he has had issues with team mates and powerplay moves in the team, big teams not wanting to upset the balance is justified too.
Hes had 4 years to outperform Leclerk and hasn't done so. Hardly the greatest injustice in F1 to be replaced. He costs a lot and brings very little sponsorship which is why other teams werent very interested.
Mate, Santander only were throwing 50-60 mil in Ferrari sponsorship, he could've covered part if not all of Checos' paycheck to get his place. Also, there's Estrella and others as well.
I don’t think anyone thought he would beat Leclerc, but he deffinetly there when they need him, and was consistently just behind Leclerc, which is what Ferrari wanted.
@@claudiustanciu05m You’re crazy if you think Santander was spending $50-$60m because of Sainz. Even if he was a 10x WDC he wouldn’t be worth that much. The Spanish market just isn’t big enough to justify that.
Sainz would have destroyed Russell. Red Bull does need a nr. 2 driver willing to play developmental driver whenever the car underperforms. Aston Martin should have picked him up
Russell, who beat Lewis Hamilton in 2/3 seasons, would be destroyed by Carlos Sainz? I guess we'll have to see how Hamilton compares to Leclerc next year.
Carlos is a very intelligent driver, and he will know that 2024 was a building season for Williams. James Vowles spent last winter fixing the structural issues there and got the team operating like a modern F1 team rather than a relic of the 1990s, and that inevitably impacted their season. Sainz and Vowles feels like a very strong combination and a great fit in terms of their approach. You know that there will be mutual respect and Carlos's input is likely to be given the value it deserves at Williams. I'd be willing to put money on him scoring a podium in '25, with the team being regular points scorers.
I don't think lewis will do any better than him, i think in his current state of mind that the youngins have the edge over him and his age ofc, charles will beat him so bad that it'll eventually wear him out. Ferrari will regret this decision
Despite being a fan of Max, I would love Lewis to have his 8th WDC in Ferrari. The way things went down in AD 2021 was unfair and murky. The fault sorely lies with FIA (Maybe Latifi a bit 🤣), not Max, Lewis or RB.

Sains is one of the best drivers and one of the most committed hard working drivers on the grid. He will give it 100% every weekend. It’s a shame he’s not at Aston but there are only a limited amounts of seats on the grid and timing is key when you have to move.

It’s ironic how Ferrari sabotaged Vettel out of the team for “financial reasons” and focusing on younger drivers, while they sacked the younger driver they replaced Vettel with for a much older driver that demanded higher pay and an ambassador role for no logical reason. They’re not going anywhere are they? Watching Ferrari is like watching Netflix, you always had to wait for the next season
Kinda like how Gunther signed Mazepin and Schumacher cuz "Haas needs younger talent," and then fired them both because "Haas needs experienced veterans." These teams are run by monkeys.
I’m confident with the improvements Volwes is making at Williams, and all the strengths Carlos brings, they’ll definitely be challenging Aston Martin for best of the rest throughout 2025 and 2026. Carlos will bring more performance from the team and from Albon. When Lewis undoubtedly struggles to consistently keep up with Charles and probably retires after 2026, I think there’s a very good chance Carlos will be back at Ferrari to see out the remainder of his career.

@exp2745 These narratives are strange... Sainz is Spanish Bottas - did Bottas fix Sauber??
Listening to Guenther Steiner’s book at the moment and he describes Carlos’ father (whom he worked with in rallying) in almost the same terms.
Ferrari were on the up no matter who drove for them because the only reason they were slow in 2020 was due to an engine punishment, but in 2019 they were a front running team and the 2022 regulations allowed them to go back to that level.
I think they're having even something new, like a wind tunnel or simulator coming in short time.

No amount of talent can fix that (And no, the example of Verstappen 2024 does not count - the RB20 was still the 3rd best car on the grid even at its worst.) Just the traditional Ferrari strategy. :D
Every move Carlos has ever had to make has been forced upon him rather than being one of his own making, however each time it has worked out for him.
You have to chalk some of that down to luck, but the rest has to be that he can get the best out of what he is given and can actively improve any team he's a part of.
Err he chose to leave McLaren for Ferrari and chose to leave Renault for McLaren 🤔
Didn’t Ferrari offer him a two year extension but stated he only wanted a long contract which wasn’t gonna happen

I am a huge Williams fan. I really hope to see Carlos and the team grow together and climb up the ladder.

For my bonus wishlist for what I do want to se Carlos Sainz and Williams do
It will be great to see him sneak the Williams onto the Podium, McLaren Brazil 2019 and Ferrari Hungary 2021 style.
Jos thinks and acts like he's a legend, sainz snr is a legend and is total respect from everyone on the grid, except jos shock

@@doghat1619 Let's be honest, Redbull (Perez) threw away the constructors, McLaren and Ferrari just picked up the pieces.
We're talking about now, not a billion years ago.
Its all on Ferrari. It has nithing to do with Red Bull
No not worse slump of the season but worse slump in the history of F1.
RedBull fucked him over before he went to Ferrari.
I think Sainz said it himself that his quality is to make a team better and move forward. I totally see that.
Beggars cant be choosers. Carlos would rather drive in a shitty car than not at all.
But he did choose. He went to Williams instead of Sauber/Audi. Come on man
At the time I thought he should have gone to Alpine and I still believe this was his best choice
So it is Sainz’s fault that Ferrari had a fanboy moment and went for the bright shiny thing? Victim blaming of a sort. Bizarre.
@@thesmallerhalf1968how is it victim blaming 😂 if he'd taken a year extension he'd be at Ferrari next year
Whether or not Ferrari should have signed Lewis isn't the issue.
Agree
It's not unfair by any stretch, he has had issues with team mates and powerplay moves in the team, big teams not wanting to upset the balance is justified too.
what issues with teammates? got on very well with lando and charles lol. he's had some issues with the team, but so has leclerc
No issues with Lando Norris or Charles Leclerc. Just Max. Strange that...
@@AlexConnor_don't think it was max himself even, more like Max's dad

Hes had 4 years to outperform Leclerk and hasn't done so. Hardly the greatest injustice in F1 to be replaced. He costs a lot and brings very little sponsorship which is why other teams werent very interested.
Mate, Santander only were throwing 50-60 mil in Ferrari sponsorship, he could've covered part if not all of Checos' paycheck to get his place. Also, there's Estrella and others as well.
@@claudiustanciu05 no santander were only 20m, and the contract sainz would ask for would be a lot more than checo
The Spanish market just isn’t big enough to justify that.
not outperforming the second best driver in f1 doesn't mean you should be demoted to a williams lol. Sainz is still one of the top 6 drivers in f1.

I wish Mercedes would have put him in their car and put Kimi in the Williams for a year or two like they did with George.
Toto has been chasing Max instead.
I think James Vowles did not want a driver on loan. He has stated he wants stability so he can do his best to move Williams to the front of the grid.
Wasn’t going to happen, George is on a 1+1 contract, and Carlos wasn’t going to sign for one year. Hopefully they re-up George and Kimi pans out.
He is a hard head, that's why bigger teams didn't want him even with that once Bankrupt Spanish Bank Sponsor!

@@Mox2077 Whoa watch out for this tough guy

Got what he deserved tbh, tried to play Ferrari by declaring he was looking elsewhere in Monza 23 and they mugged him off. Even had him doing sim work while Leclerc filmed his contract announcement video. Thought he was worth more than he actual is. He'll shine back in the midfield
I'm cheering him on. I have high hopes for him and Williams both climbing the ranks. It will be exciting to watch them improve.
Bottas was in a similar situation when he left Mercedes
Great video with a very positive overview of Sainz and outlook towards the future. I hope he sees this.
Well, the fans always talk about next year, so i guess it's ingrained into that team.
Kinda like how Gunther signed Mazepin and Schumacher cuz "Haas needs younger talent," and then fired them both because "Haas needs experienced veterans." These teams are run by monkeys.
The parring of Sainz and Williams is a dream to me
Likewise, I'm stoked to see what he can do in the car.
Sainz: Blue flags! Blue flags!
Vowles: They are for you, Carlos - sorry again.
The moment they have multiple points finishes and slowly get podiums at least will be a sign that they are back into contention and I’m here for it.
Injustice? What are you on about? Everyone is where they belong. Did he deserve something better? He should've done better.
That's absolute nonsense.
Lewis belongs in prison for being Diddy's best friend.
Injustice? We're going to see Williams have a driver capable of NOT crashing for the first time in a LONG TIME.
Typical modern day life.
“Not fair”
I’m confident with the improvements Volwes is making at Williams, and all the strengths Carlos brings, they’ll definitely be challenging Aston Martin for best of the rest throughout 2025 and 2026. Carlos will bring more performance from the team and from Albon. When Lewis undoubtedly struggles to consistently keep up with Charles and probably retires after 2026, I think there’s a very good chance Carlos will be back at Ferrari to see out the remainder of his career.
"Injustice".. more like a reality check. He's a pretty good driver, but the fact that none of the top teams that had an empty seat wanted him, basically all except McLaren, says everything you need to know.
Red Bull did but they didn’t want him challenging max, or a second demanding father. Mercedes did too. Wolff is regretting signing a newbie.
