'Ford v Ferrari' Stars Christian Bale & Matt Damon on Shooting Intense Racing Scenes

- Christian Bale and Matt Damon, stars of the upcoming movie "Ford v Ferrari," revealed how they filmed the epic racing sequences. The actors said they used replicas of classic racecars to film, and director James Mangold said he shot the scenes to make the audience feel like they're in the driver's seat.

I just finished watching this movie a few minutes ago , GO SEE THIS MOVIE When it Drops ! , 10/10 ! Bravo Boys !
Just saw it too and it was terrific. Bale again transforms and is fantastic. Definitely worth the big screen for the driving scenes. Really like the way it was shot. No hyper-editing where you can’t tell what’s happening.
It’s a good film.

Just watched the movie, every second of the movie is fascinating, every moment is phenomenal. As someone who doesn’t understand car, I find this movie enjoyable and easy to understand. Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles are legend!

This movie is a whole lot more than just a sports movie. 2.5 hrs of pure joy. Bale as like ALWAYS , never fails to impress, not to mention the stellar supporting cast. Highly recommended!
Mr Bale is a master actor, even down to his "Brummie" accent. Enjoy your cuppa Tea, H-A-P-P-Y...

the director of the film gave a great IndieWire interview about the film and Bale, one great quote: '' I felt the role was close to Bale [who starred in Mangold’s "3:10 to Yuma"], and prayed he would do it. He’s a model to me of artistic perseverance and flexibility. He'll text you with thoughts and free associations about the character. It's all incredible food. He’s a wonderful father, loving husband, great friend. He’s not interested in being famous. He drives a pickup truck, he’s grounded in the world, he raced motorcycles but had to stop when he got hurt, when he had kids. There are so many parts of Ken in Christian, who’s a perfectionist. When you got Bale and Damon and the punisher together you know even if it does not turn out to be a legendary one you are going to watch it anyway.

Definitely a fan of Director James Mangold. FYI i used to chauffeur, and drove James Mangold around several times, him and his wife Kathy are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Can’t wait to see this ONE !

I own a Porsche 911 Turbo but am an old Ford guy and can't wait for this movie...for those that don't know, Bale plays Ken Miles who was Shelby's top driver who Shelby insisted be on the GT40 team when he signed on to take over the GT40 program (Holman and Moody also ran a parallel team with Ford factory backing). Not only was Ken a fantastic driver but Shelby also credited him with "inventing" the parts and process that enabled them to change the GT40 brake rotors in a 30 second pit stop. Shelby said without that the heavier GT40 which went thru 7 sets of rotors during a Le Mans 24 hour race would have never beat the Ferrari's or Porsches.
Ken Miles was also a tank commander in the British army during WW2.
Bale has learned that part of winning an Oscar is not just about acting in a film, but acting as if you have heard each mundane question for the first time....dozens of times...while also pretendong to be thrilled about it.

The stig is a pretty good driver but he isnt like some the best in the world. Best in the world would mostly be f1, dtm and other gt drivers, drivers who really are fast. (past and present drivers)

Probably the best movie I have seen in a very long time. My hubby is an absolute car fanatico but I didn't go with him - I went with my bestie! This is such an awesome, awesome film. Depiction of Ken Miles is spot on - Christian Bale and Matt Damon (Carroll Shelby) just fab.
I've just seen the movie and I absolutely loved it! Great film allround and I really recommend it to everybody!

More like Batman and Jason Bourne. Don't insult Bourne by insinuating a role that Damon missed out on over a bad ass great role he actuallly did get.
@Teth Adam It's a shame that Affleck got that role when Damon was really better for it. But that movie came out about the same time as Bourne Identity so if there any sort of conflict and he had to choose glad that he made Bourne instead.
For those who didn't get it, the joke refers to a rumor from 2014, when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman, that said that Matt Damon might play Robin. (Which was ridiculous, because Damon is older than Affleck.)

As a former race driver I just had to take some friends and wife to see it, in Mtn. View, CA. I have seen just about all race movies ever made and believe me, this one is in the very top group! I've driven both the 289 c.i. and 427 c.i. Cobras and felt that the small block was super sweet. I spun the 427 during practice at Vacaville, CA.
I remember seeing the Grand Prix when I was a kid. They had cameras on the cars. There were people all over the theater leaning with the cars with death grips on the theater seats.
If this is as good as Rush, I'm down.

im been following formula 1 and lemans for years and that type of racing is heart ranching and the drivers are in top shape more so than american football players mentally and physically .

I'm happy I got to see it in the theater. Then I got it the day it came out on Amazon. Having been stationed in Germany, I really wanted to go to this race. It's a great story, man and machine, family and friends, and of course the rivals.
After Rush, this is the best racing movie which I saw yesterday. Go for it guys

What a cast. Having Bernthal in a supporting role makes this film a must watch and then the shapeshifting Batman and Kimmel´s homeboy make it even better

I can't wait to see this movie, but the story they should have told is the one of Max Balchowsky and his car Old Yeller II, they were beating Ferrari, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Alfa Romero, and all the other European sports cars in road racing before the GT40, Carroll Shelby, Dan Gurney and a host of other drivers drove Old Yeller II in races themselves, it sent ALL the European cars back across the Atlantic with their tails between their legs including the Maserati Birdcage that was supposed to be the most advanced race car in the world at the time.
Max and his wife Ina built the car themselves in their garage without any corporate money or help and used a Buick Nailhead engine in it, it was constructed entirely from used parts scrounged from junk yards.
Max is also the guy who prepped the 2 Mustang's and 3 Chargers for the movie Bullitt along with many other cars for movies, hopefully one day they'll tell his story.
As the end of 2019 approaches, Hollywood suprises us with some good movies- once upon a time in Hollywood, Ad Astra, Joker, Ford vs Ferrari, The light house, Terminator-Dark fate.
The Irishman is coming next year aswell
And Knives Out, everyone is saying it’s a great movie.

@@vippsmillennial6336 I thought though Terminator- dark fate is not in the same league as other movies mentioned above as far as winning an oscar is concerned, but given the director of the movie- Tim miller(Deadpool), and James Cameron as producer, the dark fate is going to be one of the best in its genre.

Caitriona Balfe is an under rated actress. She can speak excellent French and her British accent is perfect though she's Irish. She's gorgeous too but I think her height is often an obstacle in her getting more big screen roles.

@@CancerNoir It's like an Easter egg. Another actor or public figure appears in a movie scene, usually brief. Stan Lee appearing in the Marvel movies is a good example.
While Steve McQueen passed away many years ago he was very active in sports car and motorcycle racing back then.

James Mangold had previously filmed the movie Wolverine Samurai at Tomonoura in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan.
I think mr damon harvard alumini had really brought a cutting edge to the role....where as bale's consistance has really brought another level to the story....a much deserving oscar i think....an american version of the story where as italian version of enzo ferrari is a bit different for sure....but i respect both versions of story.
