I lost 56 lbs in 10 months...my diet is...don't eat what makes you fat...imagine that. Few carbs, little sugar. Good healthy foods in smallish amounts. Never skip a meal. Your body will tell you when you are full. Healthy snacks of yogurt, fruit, veggies. No cake, muffins, cookies, sweets, one slice of pizza every other week with lots of salad, no ice cream. For me one mini piece of Hershey chocolate, bite size per week...no soda or fruit juice. I could go on but, common sense should be applied. The weight fell off me and cravings were barely there. Bread...none for first 5 months but 4 unsalted saltiness once a week with a bit of peanut butter...needed the crunch. Good luck...no cheating !!! But, if you do just go back to your program immediately. It worked and I am still loosing...20 more lbs to go...keep your eye on the prize...being healthy. 😂 ps...1/2 slice of healthy bread 3 times or less per week, but it will slow you down...better to forget the bread. I would use Romaine lettuce instead of bread with cheese and ham or chicken in between 2 leaves as a sandwich. A bit of applesauce once in awhile is sweet and yummy. No potato chips !!

Hi Dawn. You may want to join a chair yoga class. All is done in a sitted position which removes the weight being a hindrance thing. You don't have to roll-around-on-the-floor, then jump up, then cross legs in a 'lotus' position as in a typical yoga class. I can tell you that it is low impact. You'll increase flexibility and reduce cholesterol.

My body wakes me up everyday between 6:30-7 am. Doesn’t matter if I go to bed at 9 pm or 10 pm or midnight. I’m up early.
We eat supper at 5-5:30 and no snacking after that. But I make sure our suppers have good protein in it. If it’s mainly “empty calorie” carbs, then I feel hungry in 2 hours.
140 is a bit high. High blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, strokes, blood clots etc etc. hope you can get that down. Keep walking and drink more water. I think you know all the ways you need to do that… just got to be consistent 😊

Also if you were never tracking all spending then your budget was never under control. You could just designate a monthy amount as misc and call it a day. Nitpicking every catagory is tedious and unnecessary.

Hi I like you because you are a straight talker. You have won the biggest battle which is taking responsibility for yourself. I started watching for tips and encouragement to learn frugality. I am 72 and follow advice from Dr Eric Berg on a low carb diet. It takes a while to learn these things. For starters, switch to sweet potatoes, cutting out rice, pasta and white potatoes and bread. Read all the labels and eliminate any thing with high fructose corn syrup, or soy lecithin. You wind up cooking front scratch. Fry with butter.or olive oil. Salad dressing becomes olive oil and Apple cider vinegar. Coffee is served black. Get rid of vegetable oil. I also watch Dr Sten Ekberg and Dr Ken Berry. If you go down this path you will get really healthy in a couple years, learning to switch to different kinds of food. One secret I can give you, catsup or ketchup has lots of sugar. Switch to Great Value Sone Ground mustard. It's the only one made from just mustard seeds, has a good taste and it's very affordable for the frugal minded.

Typically, when I go to the doc, the Medical assistant will take my BP soon after walking to the room. They usually don't instruct me to relax my arm or do anything that would result in a normal BP so, invariably, my BP is high. When the doc comes in, they will comment on my high BP and take it again and it's usually normal.

He works, and I worked till we had children and then stayed at home. This might help with my food choices since i am not tempted to eat in town. Now that we are in our 60s, he has high bp/mine is normal. He has pre diabetes, and my blood sugar is normal. The kicker is I have slight elevated cholesterol his is below normal. My good cholesterol is in the high range. His is in the low range. We are perplexed by it all. So far, I have been able to stay off any type of medication. Diet and exercise are hard, and i can't say i enjoy it, but it has kept me off of any type of medication. My husband has had to start low amounts of medication. I stretch when I wake up in bed before getting up. While laying on my back, I stretch my legs out pointing my toes. I bring one leg up bending my knee, clasp my hands below my knee and bring it down toward my chest as much as I can. Put it down and do the other. I do both those exercises several times. I reach my arms toward the ceiling and stretch as much as I can as if reaching for the ceiling. I bend my arms and each hand grasp the other arm, Indian style. I then twist left elbow toward right side, then same with right, do several times. This limbers me up safely so I can get out of bed and downstairs before I do some other exercises on a couple pieces of equipment while watching news and weather.

These days, I walk to the office as it's only 10 minutes away, and I enjoy walking everywhere I can anyway. When I had the car, I'd sit in the parking lot for as long as I could before going in. I usually try to get an early appointment. I always have to ask the nurse what my BP and weight are, which kind of bugs me. It must be a really sensitive topic for a lot of people. I try harder to behave myself about a month before my appointment diet-wise and weigh myself at home, since I figure their scale is probably more accurate than mine. Lol. I thought I was home free this last time, but the doc and I had a discussion about starting a statin - my cholesterol has been borderline for a couple years. I told her I really didn't want to, since I know by my own research that there has been controversy about statins for a couple years. She did calm down and patted me on the knee (!) and told me she had many much younger patients on statins, that it wasn't my fault, that nothing I can do at this point will drop the borderline levels. Yes, I could tweak my diet a bit, but she said it wouldn't matter. Again, to her, elevated cholesterol levels are genetic (and yes, my brother and sister have both been on statins for years). I think she was very aggravated that I dared to challenge her a bit. My sister told me her doc (in another practice) was "mean" also. Lol.

Dawn, I do an under desk elliptical instead of long walks. My legs don't hurt with this kind of exercise. I suffer from venous stasis and varicose veins. It's a wonderful piece of equipment that I use 1-2 hours each day (wearing compression socks). It has saved me. You're doing well, and have a plan. It doesn't get any better than that 🌈

    Hi Dawn,
I'm approaching my 77th birthday and have survived breast cancer and chemo and have had my infected gall bladder and thyroid removed. I was feeling so miserable and packing on the pounds last fall. I was taking care of everybody and everything else but me! With my son's coaching I began intermittent fasting 5 months ago. It has literally been a life saver! I've lost nearly 30 lbs but more importantly I feel so much healthier and happier. My b.p. and cholesterol is down so my doctor is happier too!😊 I'd advise anyone like me who never stuck to a diet to consider intermittent fasting. It can be very simple, cheap and effective. You just eat fewer hours of the day.
Just make sure you don't eat after an early dinner up through to breakfast. And you can drink water, coffee or tea during fasting hours. Anybody can do that! You can stay at that time frame until you get the hang if it and then gradually begin eating a little less at a meal or fasting just a little longer. It's not a diet and no food is tabu during your eating hours. You just find you fill up quicker and don't eat out if boredom after awhile. Your starch and sugar cravings are much less over time. Which lets you burn stored fat for energy. You don't count calories or get discouraged. Healthy weight loss is supposed to be slow...but steady. Maybe a pound or two a week at most. Any more than that (unless you are a marine recruit in basic training) means you are losing good fluids or muscle!
This has taken all the guilt and misconceptions out of the issue for me. It's a lifestyle I feel I can embrace ongoing. I'm halfway to my goal weight. There is no program or work out to sign up and it actually saves you money. My grocery bill is now half what it was! I eat two meals a day now instead of grazing all my waking hours like I did before! The doc said on my next visit he is going to reduce my b.p. and cholesterol meds. And eventually I may be off them completely.

    Your bloodwork is great!
The odd blood pressure could be from a million things. One time I drank a lot of water because I was doing a challenge and my BP was higher than it normally was. Next visit I was back to normal.
I try to stretch a bit before I even get out of bed but I’m going to add the one your doctor recommended.
My March goal will be to some weight. I’ll be happy with 1 lb. 😀. Something to get things rolling.

My blood pressure can be high at the doctor's office. I've usually rushed to get there, and I have a little "white coat" syndrome, lol. I will ask them to take it again if I think it's high. I'll take 4 breaths in and release slowly after each breath. It seems to work for me. You may not have done as well as you wanted; however, you're still exercising and getting your steps daily. That's improvement. I haven't weighed in a while. We're in the apartment in Houston, and there's not a scale. I feel as though all I've done is eat since we got here. Yuck. I just hope I don't gain too much before my next doctor's appointment. I think your bloodwork was good overall. Most of us can do better dieting. I know I can. Good luck! Love to all, Linda 💕

Weight Watchers is only $10. A month. You will spend a little more on good foods. I lost 45 lbs. all can be done one line, very flexible foods.
Get more exercise like buy an inexpensive push mower, weed eater, you will save money and loose inches. My battery weed eater cost less than $80. I have been using an old gas push mower for years. New electric are less than $300. Over the years you will save big, and get your body moving. And I live in south western Okla. it gets hot, plus you have a husband and daughter. My favorite time to mow is about 9 am, any dew on the grass burns off, but still fairly cool.❤

I have been doing intermittent fasting for 5 months with great results. I've really been researching on line as I have been going. My son and I are fasting buddies and he's a great coach! Learning that addiction to refined sugars and carbs is an evil plan foisted on us by a greedy food industry has changed my whole relationship with eating! The deck is stacked against us to make us feel it is our fault somehow that we can't lose weight while we are being constantly pounded with ads on all media to eat more of the bad stuff.
So we feel bad about ourselves and the diet industry and big pharma are there eagerly waiting to suck us into their craziness. The true answer lies within us to make lasting changes and in our ability to see thoughts lies and money making scams. It's not our fault that our guts get altered by the food that is readily available to us.
My new hobby is reading food labels at the grocery store. HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP is one example which should have a poison warning label on it! Just one of many. 😮
