    Thanks for the encouragement. Five years ago I walked five miles per day. Then I was diagnosed with stage three cancer. Surgery, chemo, radiation, chemo. It took my energy away. Started to perk up in 2019. Then virus took over everything. Everything shut down. The last yearI stopped going out , there was no where to walk I gained weight.Let myself go. I didn’t realize how I was getting so out of shape. This last spring I found out I have a high blood pressure problem. I was put on Metoprolol August 1 while visiting my local Er. It was the same weekend we were getting the smoke particle pollution. I should have stayed inside, but I didn’t realize how that air quality can raise blood pressure in people who have an issue with. Now I m trying to taper off the drug. I have started walking this week 20 minutes per day. Might try to get to the nearest Y to swim. I was afraid to exercise after I was told that I had BP problems. I thought I would keel over on the walk. Anyway I like how you show us and explain how blood pressure goes up when exercising. It helps get rid of my fear and anxietyrelated to BP. I talked like I haven’t known how to start. Thank you for making these videos to help enlighten us.

    Thank you again. I purposely park my car 15 mins away from work and walk the rest of he way their. I also walk at a brisk pace. I take the stairs rather than the elevator. These are little things but they add up over time. I used to bike to work but it’s hard in a suit now :)

    One year ago my BP was 156/90; I was diabetic (A1C ~8.0). This year starting in May, I switched to a low carb/keto lifestyle and my avg BP for Sept-Oct 2019 is 107/71 and my A1C is 5.0
    I'm no stranger to exercise; even when I weighed 100 pounds more I would routinely go for 5-8 mile walks. Strange thing about losing all this weight is that when I go to the gym, the longer I workout, the lower my BP gets until I start to get dizzy and have to go home.
    For instance: 1 hour on the stairmaster set to 145 steady heart rate: Before BP=110/76 - Ending BP after 1 quart of water and 15 minutes cool down is 70/52 pulse 92. In case you wondering I'm 60 years old.

    One thing works right away.Breath in through ur Nose very deep and hold it up there couple of sec.,then let the air out through ur mouth,and hold it down there too couple of sec.
    It works for me if i do it for 5-7 min,but i dont know how long BP Is lower then.it works also for my puls if i run slowly on my treatmil (4.5 km/h).

    It's weird to me. My high blood pressure is lowered after I exercise. I would think it would be the reverse. And it could be right after I exercise, too. I don't really have to wait. So I've figured out that before I go for a physical, and have my BP checked, I'm going to do a workout as late as possible, before I need to go into the doctor's office. Crazy!

      Same with me... I went to a doctor and he gave me bp medicine immediately. I took it for 7 days then was forced to leave it by my mom because once it's started, you have to take whole life.
      Then I went to another doctor with similar symptoms, he checked my BP but said your BP is normal despite it was little high. Rather than giving me bp medicine, he gives me medicines which helps me to relax and sleep well. And that things work to lower my BP...

    My blood pressure was in 140/94 range when I just fast walked for 4 miles.

Some also say to walk slowly to release tension giving your self a brain break ( blue heron method ) others say quickly. Which is better? Thank you doctor.

    In my case, there’s a direct correlation between my body weight and blood pressure. For thirty years my sedentary-fitness pattern has been to start cycling in the spring with a peak weight of around 205 lbs at 5’-10”, and BP of high 130s/low90s and a resting pulse of 70. By early fall, my weight declines to the mid 170s with BP of 120/70 and a resting pulse of 40. Being “an experiment of one” this has always been my pattern. Is it body weight or fitness or both? And to what degree/proportion does each affect blood pressure? I’ve met very fat cyclists who ride all the time (randos). I’ve often wondered what their BP and resting pulse rates are. Maybe I’ll start bringing a BP cuff and clip board on all rides 🤣

    • @AdamJStoryDC
      @AdamJStoryDC  6 лет назад

      It's hard to say whether it's the "fitness" or the "weight." Research only gives clues but is not always applicable to the individual. The best study is the "experiment of one" because it's that one that counts.

      You didn't mention your age, but are you concerned that it's not "perfect blood pressure?" Assuming you do everything "correct" in terms of exercise, not smoking, not drinking, etc? Watch this video: ruclips.net/video/xcU46da-dko/видео.html. Assuming your doctor has experience and isn't going to just go on numbers alone, you'll likely not need medication.

    Hello, I am 25 and my regular BP is 110/70. When I am having panic attack it raises to 140/70 or 160/100 (full-blown).
    I did some mixed aerobics and isolated exercise like push ups and jogging and I took my blood pressure right away while my heart is beating hard and fast and I got 155/90 BP, I exerted 75-90% endurance and strength.
    When I am doing moderate endurance exercise, I am hitting 145/75.
    When I am doing light exercise, I am reaching 110/70-120/70.
    My doctor told me not to exercise if my BP is raised (HBP) because my brain's blood vessels will explode.
    Should I slowly walk while having panic attack? Can I still exercise and lift light-moderate weights? Is it dangerous to reach 160 systolic while exercising?
    I am already done in 24 hour holter with HRV and 2D echo cardiogram plus ECG theb the result is ok and they told me to go to psychiatrist.
    BTW, Can I exercise light-moderate or is there a very strict limitation?
    I take my BP like 40 times a day left and right arm. I am very anxious that when I exercise, I should not get the hypertension level systolic 130+.
    I sound paranoid but your reply will surely be appreciated, greetings from Philippines! Thank you.

    • @AdamJStoryDC
      @AdamJStoryDC  7 лет назад +1

      It goes up to 140 because there's more pressure in the artery when your heart rate goes up (physical activity). It goes down likely because of the parasympathetic nervous system relaxation after exercise (rest).

      @sweetcheers1 7 лет назад

      Thank you doctor for your answer, however please tell me something, what is the safe blood pressure when excercising? When i push too much to the limit in my excercie (practicing martial art), the blood pressure reach even 155. I wonder if this is too high, i don't do it often, but if it's too high it means my heart is not well or circulation in bad condition? So mostly i excerise to about 140, when i get 150 i still don't get breathless or any bad or scaring feelings, but i heard 170 can bring to heart attack. I am physically active since i was very young, great regards

    • @AdamJStoryDC

      There is no "safe blood pressure" when exercising. You're not supposed to take the blood pressure when exercising, so you are worrying about something that you shouldn't. My advice is stop taking your blood pressure when you exercise. 170 can bring on a heart attack is wrong.

      If you do not have enough insulin available, your blood glucose levels can actually increase right after exercise. If you have enough insulin, your blood sugar will remain within normal limits. During exercise your body is pouring glucose into your bloodstream. What do you consider "exercise?" Some will do 30 minutes of weights and some will do 6 hours of cycling. Those are different forms of exercise and your blood sugar will require different methods of nutrition to maintain "normal." At the low end, nothing will happen. On the other end, you'll bonk.

      If you can do a 20 minutes walk twice a day that would be great.
