I think it’s called ‘white coat syndrome’ and it is quite common. Most doctors are aware of it so the best is probably to be honest with them about it…. If the doctor knows that you are nervous at the time of the test, they can adjust their interpretation of the results if needed.
Another advice could also be to test yourself regularly with a home device, so you would feel psychologically better prepared for the real test (and the possible outcome).

Take your own at home. I do this also as every doc visit they panic and tell me im hypertensive. This now fuels my fear of BP results. I recently had an endoscopy and was very stressed, not about the procedure, but about what my BP result will be and how will they react. As expected it was very high. But when i was home that evening relaxing in front of the tv i checked my own and got great numbers. So frustrating.

I have been off my meds for over a year, last month I was invited for annual health check they checked my pressure which was normal they thought I still take my meds, and blood samples as well as routine check, after a week phoned me for blood results of which all was OK, looking into their system they told me that I haven't been for prescription for ages, what do you take? I said I stopped long ago, they didn't like and told me off. I was asked to take my blood pressure morning and evening for 7 and each time I have to send the results of which was always below 131/82 or 128/81, it's 2 weeks they didn't call me back 😂😂

Well done! I had a similar experience during my annual check up. I am always nervous in any medical consultation, plus, I ran to the medical centre, as I was a bit late. After three consecutive readings, no more than two minutes apart, my systolic BP was in the 160's. Doctor suggested meds. I refused. When I take it at home in the mornings, without caffeine and at rest, after the breathing exercises, it is in the 120's to mid 130's, which is ok for my age of 62 yo.

I’ve been doing so and the BP was reading on average about 152/77 (less nervous at home). I found this video and tried the breathing exercise. First without the breathing 162/82. I have done this breathing exercise and it does work.
Also, when you go into the doctors office and they use that electric blood pressure cuff; it always raises your blood pressure higher then it really is. Request the nurse get the old cuff and pump it up herself. Get a blood pressure meter for home and check it daily. When I go into the office my blood pressure always reads higher in the office then at home. I had my home devise checked and it is correct. Some blood pressure medicine can also raise your blood pressure.... be aware of this.. Find out what your medicine takes out of the body and talk with your doctor and replace it if possible. Statins block your Coq10 and your heart is full of this to stay healthy. The Coq10 supplement many doctors recommend to patients when taking Statins. The New England Journal of Medicine stated that Patients need to be proactive in there health. We need to research and work with the doctor to make the best decisions for our optimal health. If you find yourself with a professional doctor they will look at your research. If they will not look at your research... you need to fire them and move on. It is very unprofessional for a doctor to not listen to a patient. God bless.

I’ve been keeping my blood pressure low through breathing for close to 40 years. I learned how to do it when I was in my late teens and so I’ve just always done it. Always insist on a stethoscope reading don’t let them use the automated machine on you. They do not get accurate readings and you can end up medication you don’t need. also eat celery celery won’t give you low blood pressure, but it will lower high blood pressure. This works starts slow because if you’re on blood pressure medication and you have too much celery, it can lower it too much.

One alcoholic drink will also quickly lower your BP. After one beer my systolic and diastolic numbers usually drop by about 10 or more points. This is due to 2 things. One, alcohol has a relaxing effect which reduces anxiety and two, it is a vasodilator. "Vasodilation is the process which widens or dilates your blood vessels. However, if you drink in large amounts, alcohol can have the opposite impact on your vessels."

Had a Doctor's appointment Monday. Had cycled 5-miles to get to the hospital and then climbed four flights of stairs. I hadn't been in Reception more than 20-seconds before the nurse took my BP. My arm wasn't supported and was just hanging down. The reading was 175/92. Within 60 seconds the SYS had dropped over 20 points. They should have waited 5-10 minutes before taking the BP reading. Anyhow, because of those temporarily high readings the doctor prescribed yet more BP tablets and statins. And yet every reading I've taken since is around 118/72. That's crazy healthcare. I won't be taking the new meds - at least until it shoots up consistently.

I'm not giving any advice since I'm not a doctor. I'm just telling you what I've been doing. I really think it's a combination of things but I think the machine is well worth the money. I've noticed a lot of the doctors and Physicians assistants now they take your blood pressure over your clothes and I don't think that registers your right blood pressure. Also they let it dangle your arm is isn't that wrong also ? So I always tell them when they're putting my blood pressure cup on I want on my arm not on my sweater

Thank you, Dr. story! I have experienced high blood pressure for the first time in the last few days. It’s been very scary to me with the most common readings being in the range of 188/115. I have an appointment with my primary care physician this morning and I really didn’t want to go on medication but felt like it was the only option. I was fortunate to find your video and I did both exercises you suggested for about six minutes and had the first normal reading that I’ve had in three days 127/75. Thank you for giving me hope that there’s things I can do personally to influence my healing 🙏💙

I've been through quite a journey oh it's too long to tell you but I just had heart surgery in November but my blood pressure is the main thing that is been a problem all along and it just wouldn't go down with all these medicines they had me on and they did the surgery and I had to stay on the medicines for a few months They just took me off the main medicine that was holding my heart rate down that they arrhythmia I come from from a shot I got at the back doctor that causes arrhythmias but long story short My blood pressure remains high and these breathing exercises I saw him on here one night and they have work for me I take now I take hydrochlorothiazide which is a water pill but it's for blood pressure as well and of course I'm taking magnesium and other things that I think might help but yeah the breathing exercises they don't keep it down They get it down for my doctor's appointment but they don't keep it down so the hydrochlorothiazide gets it down and then if I go to the doctor and it's high she told me the other day you're good you're good I hadn't even been breathing and she said you're 132 over 88 so it was that was probably from the hydrochlorazide It gets it down where you can at least work with it but sometimes mine is really high and I can sit and do it and it brings it down around 20 points in the morning when it's already high and I haven't had anything to get it down

The breathing method works great for anxiety, blood pressure and pain. I get weekly therapeutic deep massages and use when something is painful in my muscles I breath in then breath out during the painful parts. It works for other pain as well whether because it distracts you or helps you calm down which also decreases pain. Swearing through painful moments is scientifically proven to help endure pain as well.

First rattle out of the box was scrips for BP meds and statins. I started keeping track of my BP twice a day. I'm consistently below 130 over 60s. I've said no to the meds. I do a healthier diet and a little exercise now.
Last time I was in, she said "It's been 6 months. We need to schedule you for another colonoscopy." I hope she didn't take offense when I laughed in her face.

Can someone please explain why when you see your doctor you’re often judged on 1 reading? Everything I’ve ever read says you should judge your BP using an average BP taken over numerous readings e.g. am/pm over the course of 4/5 days. Had mine checked the other day at my doctors and it was 155/84 and was told I may need medication as I can’t take the meds that have just been prescribed as my BP is too high…..
Bought my own BP monitor (£20) and my average over the last 4 days is 124/67. No need for meds and I can start my new meds…

Even at home, it still increases my heart rate ti over 100. My resting heart rate is 50s to 60. My labs are consistently ok which means I don't have chronic HTN. Recently I need a surgery but they won't do it because of my white coat HTN. I have tried everything to calm myself but none worked. A necessary medical procedure shouldn't be denied because of a temporary high BP. I have been sick for a month and feel frustrated for not being able to get the treatment I need soon. 😞

@@ThePriceIsRising I don't know exactly. But probably has to do with the fact that you've been sitting longer, less nervous, more relaxed.
If you read up on the proper way to take your blood pressure, it never goes down like that at the Dr's. You should be relaxed, and sitting for some time first, don't be cold, don't need to use the washroom.....all kinds of things are recommended.

I find that some drs office staff take your BP is all different ways with all types of results. Some use the automated cuff, some do it the old fashioned way, some have you hold your hand and arm up, some have you rest it on your lap.
Just had mine taken a few days ago.. she only took like 2 mins..never had one taken that quickly. The dr comes in and says you are 130/90 and need to discuss getting on meds immediately. Sorry no. It was 120/84 2 weeks ago at another drs office. It’s all baloney and pull pushing. At 70, I know BS when I hear it. Thanks for these techniques…😊

Do we alternate hands as we do the isometric exercise? For example, two minutes with the right hand, then as the right hand is resting, do two minutes with the left hand, etc? Thank you!

My doc put me on hbp meds. My god ive never had anything so terrible affect me.
Before being on them i was active and playing sports 3 times a week. Now i cant hardly run at all. Doctor said i needed to go on them because my blood pressure was extremely high.
