  • The king of the antenna world (in my opinion) is the TrueRC patch antennas, but I want to know if these compact antennas can stack up against what is already my personal favorite. In this video, we explore penetration and long range antenna vs antenna to find out who the true king really is.

@NURK FPV - It's 3 tx/rx and 1 rx-only ports according to the FCC documents. However, actual power testing has shown that only the top two connectors ever transmit anything.
When using the AXII HDs you've got them on the rx-only connectors. That will somewhat hamper the retry mechanism which DJI relies on very heavily.
FWIW, I run em plugged into the top two ports, and have some long AXII 2 "long range" omnis with right angle connectors in the bottom ports which stick up over the top of the goggles.
Yes I have to remove and reinstall the omnis to fit in my bag, but they're a lot easier than removing/reinstalling the TrueRC antennas. If I want all directional, I use 2 Triple Feed patches on bottom connectors instead of the omnis.

@@NURKFPV I've run tests through dense woodland with the menace RC digipack
Tried top and bottom left side and right side.
The stock antennas beat them every time. (Just) at 1200mw.
Long distance I got to around 600m before the bit rate and signal bars began to fluctuate massively with stock antennas on.
Once I added menace patches to bottom two (stock antennas on top) I got to around 600m and bitrate stayed at 50.8mbps but signal bar was red with just one bar showing.
So I added to foxxer lollipop 3's to the top two with patches below.
I flew 1.8km with solid 50.8mbps and full signal bars.
So this tells me the top antennas are used to give osd signal bars.
Whilst bottom two give the bitrate info for the osd.
So when upgrading antennas I firmly believe that the DJI antennas all work together for best results.
Doing a mismatch of Omni and patch doesn't work correctly.
Iv found either 4 patches for straight in front long range or 4 Omni's (I followed rcshims advice and used 4x foxeer lollipop 3) for general flying to get best results. Namely an accurate bit rate and an accurate signal indicator in the osd.
All that said the form factor of these is very good indeed.

Directionally these should definitely win over any stubby. I’ve flown the truerc stubbies for probably 300 packs now and they are no better than stock. I’m definitely keeping the stubbies though, if I stuck with stock I’d either have to remove them every time or I’d end up breaking the connector. And sma connectors are rated to like 1000 mating cycles or something. A lot can be said about form factor.

You can really improve performance a ton with better antenna placement on the quad and upping your wattage with the 1200mw hack
Extra long omnis on the goggles would also be beneficial, but then you’re having to connect / disconnect 2-4 antennas every time you go out.

Running the antenna sideways like that means the radiation pattern goes up and down, rather than side to side. Great for tall building but limits the angle side to side and isn't the optimal choice for the antenna design.
Have you tried using two crosshair extreme? Smaller than your current antenna and as good punch with a better radiation pattern.

I have two DJI FPV goggles. also the big whites and the big Red/black Occusinc. one FPV has stock antenna one FPV has true rc on top and stubbie lower I love the stubbies so convenient ! the difference in performance for everyday flying is negligible. I have been flying DJI EVERYDAY for 16 months. EVERYDAY ! If I want long distance the solution is simple. MAVIC PRO ! I keep it with me in the car just in case. Mavic Pro (6 yrs old) with those big white DJI Goggles... enjoy the scenery ........

Something to note is they’re a bit fussy to get on and off.. those 3D printed grips don’t work very well (on mine anyway).
A fair test for day to day would really be having one of the x-airs on only, and leave two omnis - Lumeniers would probably hold up in that test
