Hi Steele, Goggles 2 feel like 24 fps/low quality on low power mode and the bitrate you noticed is not liying 🙂 No need to fly, I did the same test on the bench with no props. Difference between low and full power mode is night and day in the Goggles (you can also disable Low power mode in the menu if you prefer). It can be seen in the DVR too. I'll post a DVR sample just under this comment, hoping RUclips will let it be 😅
Here is the DVR showing the difference between Low and Full Power : ruclips.net/video/PuGnnXil42o/видео.html (I can confirm my eyes see the same thing in the Goggles, even better actually, YT being limited at 50-60 fps)
7:52 - do not test this stuff in low power mode, Air Units will limit them selfs when not armed. Also, to get fastest performance on the O3s with the goggles 2 you will need to set the videomode to 100FPS on the O3. O3 and G2 Combo will work best then you set the video mode to 4:3 2,7k 100fps. It has also the best FOV.
After 7 years, I finally went from analog to digital; I got the goggles 2 - never tried the v2 - didn’t believe it was worth it, and the v1/v2 was so bulky like most dji. I can’t afford both...and I still wish the Goggles 2 could be as small as the fatsharks, but at least its much closer to that size than the v2. Regardless, digital is awesome! Happy to experience the change. I had no issue with the update.
Good decision dude, love my v2s & 03 unit all I run in my quads. Googles2 not only uncomfortable but they get hot & fog up on hot days my v2s never have.
you have to turn off the low power mode in the comparison, the googles 2 shows the air unit is in low power mode in this mode you only get 30fps or something 😅
There’s a difference. It’s very noticeable. I have no reason to tell you these things other than it’s what I’ve found.. the $2.00 I’ll make from this video is for sure paying my mortgage

I purchased my V2 Googles back in November 2021, pushed the needed software with Windows 7, along with the 1200mw hack. Googles worked perfect for 2 months, then the image would freeze up during mid flight, causing me to use GPS rescue on my long range quads that I built. I sent my V2 Googles to DJI repair center and they ended up replacing the Core Board Module for free since this was a known issue for some Googles. If they would have not honored any warranty, the Core Board Module would cost $160 and repair service fee $65. They did remove my skin decal sticker and I had to update the software and 1200mw hack again, V2 Googles have worked great since then.
And literally, from a flying perspective, it doesn’t react the same way when it’s flying, I flew both the avata and the o3 air unit. No “ghosting” as soon as you arm. In low power mode it’s less FPS.

The hertz difference in your test is so evident because googles 2 and the unit are in low power mode. O3 unit goes to full power mode only when it gets arm signal from fc.
Both were in low power mode though. The O3 air unit connects in low power mode to the V2s until you arm as well. All things being equal, what other simple explanation is there that the video from the v2s is smoother with steele flying both quads. Yes, I understand confirmation bias but I think any reasonable person would come to the same conclusion whether they flew fpv or even if they didn’t. @@SkeezyFPVI agree that experience is the most important thing we have here to make our conclusion. But I want to point out, that the difference in real flight will be much smaller than shown in the experiment. Also, we can see 50 mbps bandwidth in v2 googles here against 7 mbps in g2. The conditions are not equal.
About time ⏲️ honest and reliable facts about those two. Never had the goggles 2 and I don't think 🤔 after seeing this I'm. There is a reason why the goggles v2 r sold out. Thank u.
I don't have any of your issues. Currently there is a FW issue with the Goggles2. Set your transmission to manual channel selection and make sure you have the Ham hack, this fixed all my issues.
I do really have problems with Goggles 2 to get the whole image sharp and in focus. I have ordered RHO lenses because they where a breeze on V1 goggles. For Goggles 2 they do not make any difference. I am also thinking about switching back to V2 goggles ...
Easy solution for mac users: Bootcamp windows partition. I updated my v2 goggles on my mac, using bootcamp running Windows 10, and it updated just fine.
It would be cool to see goggle companies do what the new Beyond VR headset is doing which is custom fitting the faceplate to your face. When you order the headset, you take a lidar scan of your face with an iPhone and send them the 3d scan. They use that to make a perfect fitting foam cushion for your headset.
That might be possible by 3d-printing a foam insert that is custom. There is soft flamelike material. Check out colorfab if curious of filament properties. Filament called varioshore.
I'm lucky as far as fit is concerned, doesn't bother my nose. No light leak.. I own both sets of goggles. Its much easier for me to get a clear image on the the goggles 2 vs V2. Really like the V2 especially with the wtfos osd. But they have to be in exact spot to be clear. I'm 62, so old eyes I guess. For your flying needs, what you explained makes loads of sense. Happy flying Mr Steele 👍😎
I have the V2 goggles and got prescription lenses made by a German company named RHO-lens. What a fantastic purchase! PERFECT IMAGE CLARITY! I mean absolutely crystal clear! They cost about $80, but sooo0ooo worth it! They stay put, are precision crafted, and I can't imagine having a more perfect image quality in goggles. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
@@KOrnhOliO1 I have those Rx lenses. And for whatever is whack about my eyes the goggles have a very small sweet spot. They are a great set of goggles, and the wtfos osd is awesome. But the goggle 2 is way easier for me to get a perfect image.
One thing: goggles 2 records osd on dvr and phone video out, so you can rewatch all stuffs, include long-lat gps (if needed), but goggles v2 doesnt, when the O3 air unit turn off, video transmitter off and all OSD will go.
Wow, that is super noticeable. I still enjoy my v1 goggles. I wish they worked with the o3 unit, but meh. I got the HDZero goggles as well, and I am really in love with them. Great video, thanks.
I noticed on his goggles 2 it was in low power state meaning it was in 30 Hz mode until you arm the quad. I'm surprised he looked over this? He needs to redo the test.
@@Swole_Gecko both pairs are in low power state and he specifically says he notices it in flight. I have dji , hdzero and analog. I believe he can feel the difference because I can.

Also yes I agree trying them both first hand the v2 goggles are smoother than the new goggles 2 but what I'm saying is it's not as big of a difference as the video shows when both are at max Hz
Hey bre, wangley day, fingely dingely fangely way, zappidy happidy nappidy flay. Also, I abso luv your face. It is cool and very funny at the same time, although mostly funny. I could stare at it all day and stay laughing. Thanks for having such a funny face bre, it's super, and funny. I'm so glad it won't fit, otherwise it wouldn't be as steely.
Remove all foam on the v2 and just add some foam on the lower lip under eye segment. Your nose looks like mine. Should fit you too like that. The screen on the V2 is far superior and DJI will likely cut comparability at some point for the old goggle
The foam fitting I completely agree with. The old ones fit a lot better. However, I would argue 1080p vs 810p is a massive difference. I ended up doing the opposite and selling the V2's because the new goggles were a night and day difference in visual quality. I'm not sure if the hand waving test was very accurate since the O3's low power mode using the new goggles drops the refresh to 60hz (maybe even 30hz actually) and 7mbit regardless of your video mode. When connected to the V2 goggles, I don't think low power mode works the same way since its still running at 50mbit. Your obviously a much better flyer than I am, but I couldn't tell a difference in flying between the two goggles. I can tell you the mistake I see most people make on the '2' goggles is running at 60fps modes and not one of the 100fps modes. Running in any of the 60fps OR 120fps modes, drops the transmit rate to 60fps. You have to run at one of the 100fps modes to get the low latency 100fps transmit speeds.
i agree, there is no way you can see the difference (100hz vs 144hz) when the o3 has a maximum 120fps with the v2 goggles, it's not 144fps so it can justify the "144hz". So the 20fps difference on such as high refresh rate is not even possible to see the difference. Maybe, only if you play cs go. The v2 goggles on the video is clearly not even 60fps!
I don't think he has seen the Chris Rosser video's about the latency in the different fps modes on the goggle 2's, I'm curious as well to see if he is in 120fps mode or in 100fps on the goggles 2. 120fps sucks indeed, terrible latency and it's actually 60fps reprojected..
I got rid of mine too. I will see what O4 brings in Q4 2024. Hint DJI they they need to fit my face without causing excruciating pain to the bridge of my nose and have wide optics like the v1/2 so my eyelashes don't have to touch to see properly.
@Mr.Steele thanks for the comparison, it just stopped me right in time of getting the Goggles 2. Currently there are to many arguments against changing exactly as you say.
I had V1s and wanted to run the 03, so i bought the Goggles 2. After 7 days i returned them and purchased the V2s. Maybe it was just me, but i found the optics to be hideous. Just couldn't deal with not seeing a fully unblurred image.
I have a 2022 M1 iMac. I had no issues at all updating using the DJI FPV Assistant for the Goggles V2 and the DJI Consumer Drones Assistant for the O3 Air Units.
10:20 How is it possible to connect the V2's to the fly app? Tried everything possible. You can only connect the goggle in FPV mode with a DJI drone. Can't figure it out with a normal drone
7:35 big mistake here in the goggles 2 you can see a warning that your air unit in low power mode, this majorly decreases frame rate. Does not react the same when at full power. Don't know why the v2 was higher fps Im not happy with goggles 2 though, the optics and fit suck. Id recommended get a used v2 on ebay and get new foam for it.
Just to rectify.. When armed it stops being laggy! The 2 goggles have 2 completely different behaviour. The new goggles goes in low power mode if disarmed.
And they record audio. Why does everyone forget that? It’s probably my biggest pet peeve with the entire O3 system. So if you want audio on your dvr then you absolutely need the ability to use a non-O3 updated vista or air unit and v2 goggles. From a compatibility perspective, the v2s check ALL of the boxes for me. The ‘tiny goggle’ issue is moot to me if I’m remaining stationary. It’s not like night vision goggles where I might be moving 5km with lots of lateral and horizontal head and neck movements. I love my big old Cadillac feeling comfy ass v2 googles. I like the 03 air unit too. But it has no audio damn it!!!
@@SkeezyFPV Well said! Yes, analog is very good on the V2 goggles and why I don't want the goggles 2. Plus, I got prescription lenses for my V2 goggles and they are absolutely crystal clear perfect image quality! :) Fit great too with the 2nd gen foam....comfy!
8:40 I guess it looks "stuttery" only because OLED have instantaneous pixel reaction time. In Googles v2 you have blurring effect as LCD pixels are not that fast in chaining their colors.
In low power mode, while the air unit is not armed, the system is on lower fps to reduce heating of the unit and save battery, the mcu will be working low power. I take it dji use ARM mcu's in their units and these microcontrollers have low power mode
I'm starting to learn FPV and chose Avata as currently it's really hard to get specific parts (southern EU) and make own set as beginner. Currently waiting for new foam for googles and I'm really surprised as noone in EU seems to produce that type of accessory even thou googles 2 are definately designed for some flat face type not very common in Europe.
Just wait till you try the HDzero 90fps. You might lose a little penetration, but the latency is even lower than analog. Especially someone like you will probably happily make that sacrifice for the lower latency and better image for freestyle!
I'm still quite happy with vistas and the v2 goggles. This hobby is expensive enough as it is.

But I want to point out, that the difference in real flight will be much smaller than shown in the experiment. Also, we can see 50 mbps bandwidth in v2 googles here against 7 mbps in g2. The conditions are not equal.
Thanks for this. I''m still using V1 goggles... for work. Good to know nowadays I don't always need the latest version of everything.
Yeah, I can see the difference. well done.
I did exactly like you with the Old V2 Goggles Nose piece haha I needed to cut it for it to fit properly with the new foam. Big noses unite! :P
Thank you for saving me from the upgrade! I loved the idea of flying without my glasses but duh! LOS! So true 👍
About time ⏲️ honest and reliable facts about those two. Never had the goggles 2 and I don't think 🤔 after seeing this I'm. There is a reason why the goggles v2 r sold out. Thank u.
Love me some confirmation bias. I just bought the V2 and O3 for these exact reasons :P
And Steele isn’t wrong 🤷♂️
ARM THE QUAD! they’re in low mode otherwise.
I don't have any of your issues. Currently there is a FW issue with the Goggles2. Set your transmission to manual channel selection and make sure you have the Ham hack, this fixed all my issues.
V2 still does its job pretty well. Thanks for the comparison!
I just bought v1's because with wtfos you can get live audio with the original air units with Steele earbud 🙂. Perfect combination for me.
You just saved me like $500. Thx homie
Wow!
Thanks for showing the difference Mr Steele. Was trying to decide between these today.
Love my DJI V2 Goggles for Freestyle.....had to buy HDZ for racing...........Thx Steele, have fun flying ! Onwards and Upwards
the line from deuce bigalo was hilarius! 😂
I doubled down on the V2 goggles and grabbed a spare set. Glad I did. Also got a whack of Vistas super cheap on black friday.💪
yes master, take out micro un o3,the inperpulipar distance in my case 71-72mm,when is open left zone...close right zone...
I do really have problems with Goggles 2 to get the whole image sharp and in focus. I have ordered RHO lenses because they where a breeze on V1 goggles. For Goggles 2 they do not make any difference. I am also thinking about switching back to V2 goggles ...
wanted to switch from analog to digital and you convinced me to buy a V2 goggles+air unit o3. the next days we will see how it works for me
Easy solution for mac users: Bootcamp windows partition.
Crazy!😄
That might be possible by 3d-printing a foam insert that is custom. There is soft flamelike material. Check out colorfab if curious of filament properties. Filament called varioshore.
I'm still rocking the V1 goggles, with my skill level they're plenty good enough
I started to think i was the only one lmao
Yup sold mine too, fuck those things. V2’s ALL DAY!
@@jlarson42 Good to know!
Steele 😂🫶🙏 low Power mode Opppps❤️
One thing: goggles 2 records osd on dvr and phone video out, so you can rewatch all stuffs, include long-lat gps (if needed), but goggles v2 doesnt, when the O3 air unit turn off, video transmitter off and all OSD will go.
Killer video. Appreciate it and I'm glad I kept my v2 goggles
Thank you for sharing. I was seriously considering the goggles 2 and selling my v2’s but you just saved me a ton of money on goggles. 😂
@@IggyBiggy my gogglesv2 do the same thing his goggles 2 do in the video. He has auto temp control turned on but not on the v2 or it would say in the bottom right.
Also yes I agree trying them both first hand the v2 goggles are smoother than the new goggles 2 but what I'm saying is it's not as big of a difference as the video shows when both are at max Hz
Lol it's super noticeable that he doesn't even know what he is talking about, he didn't even read the manual :)
thanks for the video buddy! Very Interesting findings. Appreciate you sharing this
Hey bre, wangley day, fingely dingely fangely way, zappidy happidy nappidy flay.
The screen on the V2 is far superior and DJI will likely cut comparability at some point for the old goggle
good explain dood! i feel yah i love my v2's. lil bro got the avata... lol i think the goggles have cool fetures but lost the 144. :(
I love my V2 goggles especially with the new hack to now run custom code one them.
Categorically false. The v2's run 3mps in low power mode. Regardless that doesn't change the refresh rate of the screens.
i agree, there is no way you can see the difference (100hz vs 144hz) when the o3 has a maximum 120fps with the v2 goggles, it's not 144fps so it can justify the "144hz". So the 20fps difference on such as high refresh rate is not even possible to see the difference. Maybe, only if you play cs go. The v2 goggles on the video is clearly not even 60fps!
@@JohnArapakos I surprised Steele didn't know that!
You are absolutely correct. What is Steele smokin 😂
Thanks for taking the time 👍🏻🔥🔥👀👀💰💰
I got rid of mine too. I will see what O4 brings in Q4 2024. Hint DJI they they need to fit my face without causing excruciating pain to the bridge of my nose and have wide optics like the v1/2 so my eyelashes don't have to touch to see properly.
I wish the v2 goggles had the form factor of the goggles 2. That was my biggest gripe switching from analog to DJI: big chungus goggles.
the padding you use on your "old" V2`s looks soo comfortable!
@Mr.Steele thanks for the comparison, it just stopped me right in time of getting the Goggles 2. Currently there are to many arguments against changing exactly as you say.
Thank you Mr.Steele I learned some things from this well made video!✌️
I had V1s and wanted to run the 03, so i bought the Goggles 2. After 7 days i returned them and purchased the V2s. Maybe it was just me, but i found the optics to be hideous. Just couldn't deal with not seeing a fully unblurred image.
This is what I wanted to know from you! Thank you for this video.
Hey I just updated the firmware on my Goggles V2 and all my O3 Air Units last night on my M1 iMac no problem.😁
Only with o3
I agree too I'm using the v2 too
7:35 big mistake here in the goggles 2 you can see a warning that your air unit in low power mode, this majorly decreases frame rate. Does not react the same when at full power. Don't know why the v2 was higher fps
Im not happy with goggles 2 though, the optics and fit suck. Id recommended get a used v2 on ebay and get new foam for it.
Goggles v2 (old) can output to an android phone. Few second delay, but works great other than that
updatable on mac
just need to mod the cable to use a 7.4V lion
Just to rectify.. When armed it stops being laggy! The 2 goggles have 2 completely different behaviour. The new goggles goes in low power mode if disarmed.
Just to clarify, absolutely the same behavior on v2 goggles...
Nice findings! Thanks for sharing.
i appreciate your insight on this so much! here i was, thinking i was missing out on the G2.
I think he needs to ARM both quads and not be in low power mode. Many others here in these comments are saying just that.
Enjoyed the info... Great video - thanks for sharing.
I think you also forgot to mention v2 allows analog modules via a/v input which goggles 2 doesn’t have.
Is the latency noticeably higher with the V2 plus module than a regular analog system?
@@HartBeat2 to me not much. Then again I’m no bando basher so for my light freestyle, and definitely with my TinyWhoops, i don’t feel the lag.
8:40 I guess it looks "stuttery" only because OLED have instantaneous pixel reaction time. In Googles v2 you have blurring effect as LCD pixels are not that fast in chaining their colors.
Awesome Steele…agree totally…
Mikey
In low power mode, while the air unit is not armed, the system is on lower fps to reduce heating of the unit and save battery, the mcu will be working low power. I take it dji use ARM mcu's in their units and these microcontrollers have low power mode
Major difference. Thanks for the video.
I don't know what he did with that goggle, but my is super smooth . Others have also blury hand when waving hand?
You have done your service to our hobby, not sure where you go from here. Yes your my God I'm FPV
It funny, I am doing exactly the same thing, V2 for the win💯
Awesome comparison! Glad you showed the flaw in Goggles 2. I still have the V1 and I still love it!🥰
I'm starting to learn FPV and chose Avata as currently it's really hard to get specific parts (southern EU) and make own set as beginner.
Currently waiting for new foam for googles and I'm really surprised as noone in EU seems to produce that type of accessory even thou googles 2 are definately designed for some flat face type not very common in Europe.
Someone finally said it!!!! 😂👍👍👍👍
That's what me and my friend were talking about, when we first tried on goggles 2. Chinese people made them for themselves. 🤣👲🐲🈴
Awesome bro. Thanks for this info . You just saved me $$$ 👊🏻🤘🏻
Just wait till you try the HDzero 90fps. You might lose a little penetration, but the latency is even lower than analog.
Especially someone like you will probably happily make that sacrifice for the lower latency and better image for freestyle!
Yeah, I had issues updating on mac os as well. I ended up running windows in a virtual machine since I didnt have my PC
