The Lumenier Axii HD is one of the lowest-profile patch antennas you can put on your DJI goggles. But does it really perform better than the stock antennas? And is it better to put the patch on the top antenna connectors or the bottom?
Thanks to RCSchim who gave me the Visual Basic script to convert the DJI data to Excel format. Here's his video where he tests a bunch of different DJI antennas: • DJI FPV Antenna tests ...

Every video you tell me I'm going to learn something that day.. And you've always been right. I'm impressed.
Thanks for testing the two options. To me bottom patch looks clearly superior. I'll run them as such.
Yay, been waiting for you to do a video on these antennas, thanks Mr. Bardwell 👍
FYI Three antennas are used for transmitting and receiving functionality. Only one is used for recieving only. (Per their FCC filings, when wearing lower-left antenna is receive only)
I'm glad I saw this, I just read Oscar Liang review from when they first came out, stating he asked a rep in passing, who stated the top two that transmit and recieve, but even Oscar said in the article he wasn't 100% sure. I'm thinking the FCC would be sure..lol, Thanks Stingy!!
@@ebstmnt this is suprising. Why would there be double transmitting antennas when the main need is a reception of video signal? I would have guessed the opposite. @RCSHIM?
This is all for v1, right? For v2 seems like two are only rx and two only tx (diagonally)? On an analog setup one would typically go for a directional and omni antenna combo on the rx only mounts. Same for DJI goggles v2? And then for tx mounts also directional and one omni I guess?
Fantastic work, Joshua! Thanks a lot for testing and comparing them! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I've been using Triump stubby's on top two, regular Axii patch on bottom. Even though range better than stock, wasn't sure if it could be better. Your results showed, even with top omni as better, it's not a big deal either way. Thanks for another great video Joshua!!
Great video. These have been super hyped. Thanks for that last bit saying the TrueRC stubbies are legit. I love them too. Saving me some money here 😅🙏🏻
Thanks for the review Joshua. My order is placed for the panel antennas. I plan to pair them up with my set of Singularity 5.8 Stubbys that I’m currently flying with. Hoping this will give me that little extra penetration in the concrete jungles of Seattle.
RUclipsr KozakFPV did this same test with AXII HD patches on top and bottom and mixed (one on top and one on bottom), and generally speaking found that having the patches on top provided a higher bitrate than on bottom, followed by mixed.
RUclipsr Waldemar Kraus did same test with X-air's (at range, rather than penetration) and found that X-airs on top was better than on bottom, and X-airs on one side and best combination was X-airs on top and TrueRc Stubbies on bottom.
One thing I notice with the AXII HDs is that it's hard not to point them at the ground. Most pilots fly with the head down a little or a lot, and that's not great for patches that are mounted at a fixed angle. One of the advantages of the X-air was that I could tilt it upward relative to the goggles so that it points out straight even when I'm a bit head down.
With the AXII HDs I constantly have to make a conscious effort to keep my head up, which is a bit annoying. They're convenient for transport, but not sold on their performance yet.
Yep, those X-Airs and for sure also the AXII HD's have a very directional beam. In my static hoover test I noticed turning my head significantly lowered the bitrate. So you really have to look into the direction of the quad.
I verified the test on next day and patches on top are the clear winner.
Quite the bummer they didn’t just angle them up a bit. Thicken the plastic on the bottom to compensate for the standard head down posture, or include some sticky shims etc
@@JavisHD glad they didnt do that, i tilt my head back w dji, funny since i did opposite w hdo rapidfire lol
@@flo-ridafpv5713 Perhaps it's time for a higher camera tilt angle? I noticed I used to look up a bit more when I was flying too fast for a lower camera angle and was subconsciously tilting my head up, hoping to see more above the horizon.
Some sticky shims should work for anyone’s preferred head angle
I just went through the FCC filing on the DJI goggles. Bottom left antenna (opposite side to the battery connector) receives only. Upper left antenna transmits all the time and it alternates between the lower right and upper right antennas for transmitting depending on which one has better reach to the air unit. So you always have two antennas transmitting and 1 receiving at any given time.
You are absolutely right! Omni at the top is the right way!
Thank you for making this video, loved it.
Finally a decent test of Axii HD
You’re a content producing machine! Great video!
Mario is a Boss. Love his work.
Would love to see a new video comparing the original Axii HD patch’s with the new Axii 2’s.
Thanks JB for your review 👌👍
I just bought dji gear used with this setup. Great intel ❤️
@Joshua Bardwell, would you compare these AXII with the IFlight Crystal HD patches?
Very interesting, dont have HD but very interested in it haha
I got a second hand Dom v3 till then
Thanks JB, always love tuning in and learning something!
Hope to catch your stream soon :)
Thanks for sharing this video Joshua
now the same question to the v2 goggles... wich antennas make sense? antenna connector 1-4 dont switch as by the v1 version...
i love what you write in your door , ill subscribe now!
Dude..... Your awesome. I sure love your videos.
Another great informative video for mere mortals thank you, Which patch do you prefer the HD or the Iflight ones I see in some of your other videos???? cheers Wayne
I've found that in open air (trees, field like surroundings) 4 omnia work great for me but I oddly found the patches work better when buildings are involved.
Will you do an updated V2 video too? I guess it would be patches on RX and omnis on TX.
Great review!
thanks for the info
got the stubbies and they are awesome - better than stock, all the range i ever need - so low profile
On an analog setup one would typically go for a directional and omni antenna combo on the rx only mounts. Same for DJI goggles v2? And then for tx mounts also directional and one omni I guess?
What about mixing them up. One omni on top and the other on bottom? Say one on the top left and the other on the bottom right or vice versa. Is there a reason why you would need to have the antenna types together on either the top or bottom as opposed to mixing them? Is it because the top and bottom are grouped together? I don't have DJI and haven't read much into how the antennas work on those goggles.
Very informative thank you Mr B ! i have just got some true rc stubbys that you mentioned ( yes i do watch all your vids until the very end ) lol 👍 😎
yes, this AXII video like showing it to all the consumers and tell them trueRC is better in the ending 😂
Very presentable video, thank 🙇
This was fantastic. Thank u
I have them, I found better performance using them at the botton and 2 long polarized on top. Also, when flying in front of concrete I also the 2 menace patches on top for better penetration. I hated to remove my digidapter. But is just 2 screws and i only have a 3" analog quad with a naked hero6 for specific cinematic/job related footage.
thank you very much !!
@Joshua Bardwell , you know you can 3d print those sma thumb screw adapters yourself. On thingyverse there's a couple different ones (I use the COFPV Thumbscrew adapter) that will fit snug over the SMA connector and fill the hole completely in the DJI goggles to keep them from wobbling. If they're snug on the sma connector it'll even to pull up a bit when they bottom out (to prevent twisting the jack loose internally).
Print em in harder TPU or PLA. I print 4 at a time to avoid overheating any one. And check your g-code to ensure that the outer walls are joined properly with the inner (it's only 2 layers thick in total).
The point is that for this price they should be included.
Great job man 👍🏻I have them and the true Rc stubs can I use together ? true RCstub on top and patch on bottom or are they match to work better same with same ?
The torque spec on sma is 5 inch-lbs. They make special 5/16 torque wrenches just for that.
I bought recently the axiis hd set and they destroyed my sma connectors on my brand new V2 googles...they pushed 3 of 4 sma male pins inside, I have poor signal now...😭😭😭...not worth it in my case!
Finally got them.
Hi JB, what would you recommend for an antenna upgrade for the V2 DJI goggles?
Thanks!
I considered getting these since I get so much breakup and noise in the video in my backyard (barely 40 feet away on even the higher Mw), but now I’m wondering if my goggle receivers have fried. Do you know of a way to tell for sure?
I use the stock antennas and I feel like the range is so short and breaks up behind simple things like trees.
If you only have two directional antennas first advice was to have them on the right side, now u should connect them on top or bottom. How is that figured out. Have some one made a (vs) test on that.
Only for sure, if I understood correctly in your test with the patch down and omni on top is better right?
I wonder if you could add Sunhans eSunRC 2000mW in between to boost more.
For penetration I'm using 2 long TrueRC singularities on top and 2 Far Vew helicals on bottom. I look ridiculous but can penetrate 800' of heavy woods with this set up!
Thats AWESOMME! And totaallyyyy worth it!!! 🤟🏼😝🤟🏼
This is definitely worth the money, I use this and it has enhanced my range and penetration a good bit and I have the patches on bottom and I get better range then on top
question are you using these for the dji fpv unit or for quads?
@@joyboy1722 o yea I build my own, I only fly Gravity Loss fpv GRL frames. Their indestructible... But the Dji fpv drone yea No I can’t fly that hunk of laggy plastic, flys like big ole large Potato with motors 😆. On my channel you can see all I build and stuff I post on here weekly some times more then that
Great video Joshua. Unrelated, I would love to hear your opinion on Redcats aquisition of Fatshark and the role Rotor Riot will play, especially with the DJI partnership.
watch last nights live stream he talks to Drew about it for an hour
@@Ark__Angel yup, just saw a blurb from drew about it. Good looking out.
Hey, do you think it would be better to have two patches on one side and two omnis on the other side?
So what happens if you put one on the top, and one on the bottom?
When are we going to see next gen VTX with MIMO and beam forming
I heard putting a crossfire into the drone would help significantly but i dont have the slightest clue how to integrate it on the dji fpv drone and cant find any guides for it
To these work on version 2 of the goggles? Someone please help me answer this question
Hello there,
Will there any problem caused by using analog adapter on DJI goggles?
Thanks
with your face in the goggle, patch antennas on the left, stubbies on the right. best reception for me.
Hi JB will these antenna work OK with dji fpv that comes in the box as stock.
Joshua I have the DJI fpv drone combo. I would like to get the DJI air unit and build my own drone. Can I use my goggles and controller with the air unit? Do they make a drone that you can fly with the controller and goggles that come with the DJI fpv combo?
Is the DJI system going to meet the FAA Remote ID crap coming out soon?
THANK GOD!
But the dji bottom sma’s are Receive only? And thus should be patch antennas?
iv got a dji fpv. and the v2 goggles I find the range is really bad in some locations causing me to loose connection. I'm hearing you talk about alot of different parts what is the one major thing I need to change to get the range? is it the anntena
What happenstance! That is the same orientation I run on my goggles and I do lot of medium to long range flying.
I just got a set and no 3M Tape. Is it missing or am I supposed to get that somewhere else?
So what would happen if you got the iflight crystal and put these on the crystal making 4 patch without them sticking out all over the place? would the iflight patch work through these? Anyone got any thoughts on this i have both on order but god knows when they will turn up.
Do you know if these will work with the V2 of the DJI Goggles.
Any chance you can compare both AXII vs TrueRC X Air antenna.
I don’t really understand antennas.. but I love them. Just like batteries. They excite me for some strange reason
Hi good afternoon
can you please tell me how to fly the dji fpv combo above 500m
or increase to 1000m?
I'm from Austria and need it in the mountains
So will these give the dji fpv drone better penetration also and range ?
I thought the data clearly pointed to the Omni's on top being the best
Which
Also, which supplier do you recommend purchasing from?
IF you looking for Range - Watch-> Ghost Recon Advanced Tactics PT2 - Best config and separate video flight test
What would be the outcome of doing one on top and one on bottom to have both directional/ omni for both recieve and transmit?
I try it, for some reason its not work well on long range
just got mine and I saw a little less range than stock, there are just plug and play right?
Wait, what happened to the b roll intro
Does it help w distance. I can only get out a little over 2 miles
Hello doctor copter ..does it work with the dji fpv drone or only selfmade copters?¿
Would the VAS Victory antenna work on the DJI giggles?
What am I doing in here? Trying to find the blue bell!
Did you face the direction of flight for the second set of tests ("long range")? Because you were facing towards the back of the property for the first set.
Yes definitely.
Noob question but can the antennas on the air unit be upgraded or is it just the goggle antennas that we should upgrade?
great question!
Wow.
So looking forward to getting my DJI HD Goggles.
Is that script from RCShim public or as a favour?
Would be nice to graph it up.
The script is from RCSChim but I'm sure anyone can get it from him.
For long range flying directional patch antennas on top much better in my experience, easy 8km range.
For "small" long range like 3-5km, I put patch antennas on bottom and stock dji antennas on top, cause stock antennas little bit above my head, and works better
You've got 8km with these antennas?
I found that the patch works better on top I use Iflight crystal patch on the the bottom I found out that trees go red signal right away....
J put Iflight crystss as l psych on top get better range trough the trees . I use lumineer stubbies
Same deal get better penetration
do these antennas works with dji fpv drone that comes with these dji fpv goggles v2?
the advert shows both setups and im confused, both look cool , im gonna do a criss cross setup cuz im a genius engineer.
Dji very good
letsss go !!!
What’s the best option if I have mod plate?
I cant get any range at all with my fpv, im in the US and for some reason i cant even go past 400m without losing signal :/
Lol the face at the end 😂
13:43 well they are pre-bend cables in the box in the direction you supposed to install them, not so sure why you installed them upside down even the connector clearly lined up with the connection on the bottom, but here we go ;)
Because I wanted to find out for myself not trust the vendor.
Safe to say these are DJI V1 not V2? I was watching another channel that stated due to the diversity of the V1 it's better on top. But the V2 is totally different.
Nonetheless, your testing seems pretty conclusive if it's indeed V1.
Can use this on V2 and V1 or there is a difference?
I think you did answer, the stubbies on top is better ;)
Can these be used on v2 with the dji fpv drone?
They look best with the stubbies on the bottom. Surely looks over performance!
