- Venmo @John-Burbidge-3 to buy me a beer for making these free videos. Thx! :) John Burbidge, author of the book "Watching Paint Dry," shows quick and easy methods to paint the trim on your house. Visit www.howtopainta... to view a complete series of videos on interior and exterior house painting!
This guy is the best I've ever seen for painting expertise. I've been painting for 30 years and I picked up a few tips on making the job even easier than it's been. When painting a house, the worst part is masking everything off. Thanks buddy. I'd hire you FOR SURE.
Hey John!
Your videos are OUSTANDING! Very well done, and as entertaining to watch as they are informational.
Your relaxed posture and comfort level make the videos easy to watch, and clearly presented with none of the usual stutter and repetition.
GREAT JOB!!
I wouldn't hire him on my crew
Your the real deal you know how to paint very well. Some of these other so called professional seem 2 skip steps
Thanks a lot for all your videos they've really helped me. I appreciate the amount of detail and tips you put into your videos.
John, I want to personally thank you for all this awesome information. I've watched your vids, looked up your site and am looking forward to reading your book... I'm in high rise exteriors and it seems residential work carries over. You didn't have to make these videos, but it's appreciative, helpful---very thorough and informative. Keep up the good work!
We're in the process of painting our home ourselves and have referred time and again to your videos as we proceed through each step from prepping, spraying, and edging, etc. Btw our house is looking great, thanks in part to your help!
I'm happy to see you take pride in your work, really nice job brother..! 😀
Great demonstration. Learned a lot that works.
Thanks Becky, glad to hear it's going well. Have fun out there!
Thanks for the videos. Very helpful. Haven't painted the house in 14 years (it really shows) and just wanted to do it right this time.
THANKS a lot for the imformative videos. I watched all 9. Very helpful, you did a great job showing me how its done. Thanks again.
Super helpful, thank you!
you are a great painter
this was extremely helpful thank you keep doing more videos
Thanks very much for the nice comment, Frank!
Hey John, that was an oil-based paint used on the door trim, right???
All my exterior trims are "french-cut" style. What's the best way to paint those without painting the sidings? It's an 8 yr-old house and the sidings are in good condition. There're a lot of caulking needed. Some of them r big gaps where the siding meets the trim. Can I get away with not painting the sidings?
May I know what type of red colour you're using on that exterior wall? If you dont mint type of brand n code if possible...☺thanks
Thanks, I really appreciate that!
Question? when spraying exterior of home what tip size do u use? also do u do one coat or two?
what is the best color combination in wooden house though? any suggestion please.
thank you gals.
I use Cabot Stain solid color Mission Brown, Allagash and then Mountain Laruel for the trim, look for yourself on my page
Thank you!
I will paint my house purple and trim them black.
pick up some foil from the dollar store and use that for door knobs, its reusable.
The side of the trim boards should be painted the trim color; it takes more time and takes skill to do, but it makes the paintjob look right.
Thanks--I've seen it done that way. For your average DIY painter it is not worth the trouble, in my opinion. The 90-degree angle on the edge of the trim board makes a much straighter line naturally than trying to cut in against the siding, where there is likely caulking that will make it difficult to cut a nice straight line unless somebody is an expert. In any case, I've never found it to be worth the trouble, and whether it looks better or not is really a matter of opinion. I do appreciate you pointing this out, however, because it is an option.
howtopaintahouse Go look at showpieces in whatever downtown you are close to; the side of the trim is painted the trim color. It's not really opinion; it's just a fact. The "facing" style that you are teaching didn't come out until after the airless sprayer..... Before the airless sprayer, craftsman did what was logical; paint the trim boards the trim color and paint the clap's the siding color. It is more interesting to look at that way. If the caulk is all built up, then remove it; prime the bare wood, reapply caulk correctly, then paint the trim, the cut in the siding. Beautiful.
when doing the siding on my house I always prestain with Cabot, as I build,,the inside corners are 2x4's ripped and stained the trim color, as is the trim boards. the cedar clap boards on the first level are stained Misson Brown, and the second level a half story is shingled with cedar shingles I pre stained the Allagash green, and the the trim are Mt Laurel deep green almost park bench green, but I learn from others all the time, Not sure who will have to repaint stain later on, but for years it will look good and not peal away because all the wood is coated, sides, edges and back
Tom Duckwall I'm trying to share my dad and granddad's trade with a 16 year old gIrl and trying to find thr right video to share what I taught her today. Thanks!
old socks, white socks so you can see if they get wet with paint
Step 8? Pressure Wash/dry. Prep. Paint the trim, paint the siding= DONE. I was painting houses b4 you was born. Wouldn't hire you. You leave the trim reveals same color as siding. Cheating!!!!!!! Try laying the paint down on doors in the same direction- top to bottom and the sheen will be uniform and reflect light evenly. Wow
Whatever happened to this person? He has not responded to anyones comments for over two years.
Maybe he hit the Lotto?
