In This video we clean up the 5.3 for the Suburban. Can you put a dirty salvage yard engine in? Yes, but not this guy. In this video we are cleaning up the block and all surfaces. This will insure it seals up and has no leaks. We will be installing all new gaskets, seals, heads and cam. Take your time when swapping heads and cam on a ls engine. The prep takes time but will save you a lot of headaches. You really want to clean the head bolt holes out to insure proper torque on the head bolts. It is also very important to scrape off all the deck surfaces for the new head gaskets to seal. Use several razor blades and lots of brake clean. We cleaned all the surfaces of the engine and now have a great starting point for new parts. Stayed tuned to see what happens and us put the replacement engine together with some upgraded parts. Quick tip. If you have oil in a bolt hole and tighten a bolt into it you can crack and ruin the block. It’s called hydraulic lockup

You ever try those Carbide super scrapers I really like them for gasket surfaces.

Off topic but I noticed you do not remove running boards from your lowering projects (Tahoe, Suburban, etc.) is this just your preference or is there another reason? I would think they are pretty useless once these vehicles are lowered and you would have to step over them to get in. Considering one of these vehicles in the near future (years 01-06) but not sure if there is an underlined reason I don’t see them removed. Have you covered what models/years you could/should remove? TIA.

I just resurfaced my 862 aluminum heads on my 5.3 iron block and was wondering if I should just do a clean and prep on the block or resurface it also? Is it necessary to resurface the block also if you resurface the cylinder heads?
Definitely a good idea
I’m in the process of mildly resurfacing the deck on my block, I started out with lightly going over it with a razor blade then 220 sand paper and a sheet of glass, there’s still some staining but nothing major, long as the surface is smooth and no old gasket material that I can catch with my finger nail should be good correct and the MLS gaskets will seal?
Yes it should be fine. Hopefully you are doing cam bearings after sanding
No I wasn’t, I blocked all the water ports and crevices and after i was finished I was going to flush the block out really good
I am replacing the camshaft in it with a BTR Truck Norris cam with new oil pump and timing chain, I’m doing a LS swap in my 1988 Monte Carlo SS

Too aggressive and throws things into open engines. Ford mechanics are not even allowed to have them in their boxes now.
