Hey Travis. I'm sure you've seen this but, I haven't until last week. This mod on a NBS Tahoe where you swap out the whole front clip and hood for an HD cat eye front end. Man I think that looks sooo good. Suburbans too. I'd like to see you do that sometime.
Nice video Travis well explained in depth with the directions... your son dresses like the me with the jeans and boots.. except my boots are black lol.. 👍
First, Thanks for your great detail video's. Question. I have daily driver 2004 Chevy Aval 5.3 I like to upgrade the cam. I Dont have the means to pull to engine out or the heads. IYO is it possible to swap the cam with the lifter still inside the head, Yes, I know I need to place a wooden dowel inside the oil valley to keep the lifters up. Also, regards to CAM bit more HP and make the engine sound better than the stock cam. What would you advise, single stage to or 2 stage CAM and what brand. Also the valve springs if it is necessary . Thank you so much.
recommend aligning the rear cover with the oil pan. gasket in cover first with black rtv on inner portion (just a bit) also you need oil around the seal lip so it doesnt burn up. then align cover with oil pan then tighten bolts. only way in my opinion to get these to seat properly
Very good video! How can you tell what Gen motor you have? My truck is a ‘15 High Country z71 with the 5.3l, I use the range disabler for now but if the time comes to do the delete how do I tell what it is? Thank you. My brother just got his truck back from a local shop for the delete and his was a 17 model 5.3l , very pricey. He lost a lifter and pushrod but he was lucky and no other damage.
Hey their I need some help .. I have 07 cheverlot suburban did a cam swap ls6 powermax ls6 springs changed the sprocket for the cam it doesn't pick it up on the camshaft postion sensor. I need to flash it or tun to bypass it? . I had single bolt sprocket and now it's a 3 bolt sprocket
Try the Sac City Corvette cover alignment tools. I got the aluminum version and they are O-Ring and are great. The the flat piece you used is for the front bottom there is another one for the back and is different fyi
Just found your YT channel.Great video!!! Wish I would have about 7 months ago before my brother and I started the LS nightmare involving his 07 Cadillac Escalade Ext w/L92. To date; he has pulled the engine 8 times and invested around $12grand. I owned my own shop for 8 years and was highly recommended before I left Oklahoma so, I am not a newbie. He owns the #1 small engine repair shop in our county so, he knows his stuff also. Being new to the LS game was a wake-up call to the both of us. We are at our wits end with his truck. Can't figure out why the oil pressure keeps bottoming out after it warms up. Going to try to send you an Email. Thanks
Going to pull the engine and break it all the way down again. Dedicating a full day to it within the week. We have to schedule a day that we both can do it together. Checked with my brother and he told me that he had a bad feeling about the last oil pump and how it felt when he installed it. He also changed the oil 2 days ago. He found some copper colored hair-like pieces of metal in the very thin oil. He said it was clean but, very thin oil. We will find out soon. @@TWAMotorsports
I have a 2012 gmc Sierra it has 137k no issues YET. But I want to do the delete just so I know I’ll have a dependable truck again. Ever since finding out about this AFM DOD crap I have been stressing. I always do my oil changes but apparently that doesn’t make any difference. These lifters are eventually going to fail.
Most all of the small 10mm bolts just need to be snugged up usually no more than 25lbs or no less than 10lbs….i usually just use a 1/4” rachet and once you feel the need to put some umphff into it your most likely already to spec…..its the rods, mains, and heads that you definitley want to have torqued to spec…. Everything else i just use the spark plug… snug as a bug method!!…..other than the balancer bolt which i suggest getting an ARP one because u gotta crank it down to like 275lbs if i recall!!….and yes arp head bolts are a must…factory ones snap very easily
@@TWAMotorsportsits a great habbit to have….never fall out of it….i was just suggesting for the less fortunate veiwers that dont have access to 3 diffrent torque wrenches
Nice video but those rear main cover bolts are not torque to spec you went too far Hand tight and use a 1/4 ratchet and then the Torquemeter But excellent video was a pressure to watch it Bless.
if you delete DOD why you leave the relief valve in pan some people say you no need it anymore if you deleted DOD especially with high pressure oil pump is that correct ?
When you tightened the rear cover w/your impact, I DID NOTICE, that you did'nt go any tighter with the torque wrench! Need to "snug" up the rear cover bolts, and THEN use the torque wrench to completely torque them. Little lube on the oil pump to pick up tube would be nice. Just saying...nice rear main centering and installation tool! DO YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE IN THE OIL PAN FOR THE LIFTER DELETE? (DOD)
Losing the 4 bolts holding the pump keep them hand tight then rotate the engine 3 times then tighten the oil pump bolts no need to shim it according to melling
I'm just seeing this video for the first time, so I wanted to comment on the pushrod issue.. when it comes to the pushrods being (too short) that wouldn't be because of heads being shaved ,that would be because the head gasket would be too thick.. If the heads had been shaved down too much, that would have made the pushrods too long..
It was painful to watch you work on the engine while it was suspended from the hoist rather than have it bolted to the stand. It’s easy to make mistakes and do things twice when working on an engine that’s not fitted to a standard and it’s difficult to get proper torque and alignment on a moving object. I have been down that road too many times. Best of luck to you on your rebuild.

Sounds like a cool project
The flat oil pan tool is made to set the front timing chain cover if you take off the oil pan.
Correct. When I ordered it showed for rear

Dry istall only on ls engines
@@TWAMotorsportswhat do you think about LS7 lifters, I've seen quite a few vids where they use them .
@MrDmacc1 gm ones are good but the actual real ones are $550 +

I would use a dog bone style instead

I did. Talked about that in this video
I always use a little assembly lube on the oring when installing the pick tube.
Not a bad idea

I did nothing with this one
oil pump always first. then lube the o ring and install pickup so it seats correctly. extremely risky to not crush that gasket.
May be a dumb question but what exactly is a DOD delete amd what does it do or change
Displacement on demand. Shuts off 4 cylinders at highway speeds
Ahh ok yeah you don't need that lol running all 8 cylinders
@jarredjohnson5394 exactly
Why did you use a high volume oil pump if the DOD lifters were delete?
Because I like have 40psi of oil pressure when the car is warm
I was thinking the same thing. Shouldn't it be the high pressure version? 10295?
I generally don't use the high pressure ine but either will work.
That's an LC9 motor?
Maybe

Heat that balancer hub with a torch for about 30/45 seconds and plop that badboy on there!!
That works too
I would have to put a quick coat of paint on the block!
I should have
Can’t you just use the oil pan ?
No
@ no because…?
It was full of debris
Cant u spin engine upside down
You can
Them darn engine's loose everywhere
Wouldn't have been easier to roll the block on the stand when you installed the oil pan?!?
It would if my bolt to loosen wasn't broken off
Dod lifter push rods are different length,,,,,
Bingo
What u mean one and a half turn u meant three quarter turn
Generally 1 and a half
Don’t bother to put any oil on that seal 🤦…..the one that you have to pull the trans or the motor if it leaks.
It is a dry install seal on ls engines👍
I’m guessing you got the title
