@@cloudtheavegner1000 And that does help develop his character - it shows us an example of how he excluded his families wealth from discussions, helping us understand how she made it this far while unaware of his status.
It always pissed me off knowing that Nick didn’t tell her or prepare her for ANYTHING. He literally threw her into the deep end, and didn’t even watch to see if she chose to sink or swim. Thank god for her friend Peik Lin. Now she was a real one. She knew what Rachel was about to get into. She at least had the decency to play fairy godmother and put her in a nice dress. But let’s be honest here, Nick’s behavior would not fly in real life. I would be absolutely livid if my hypothetical boyfriend did that to me 😂😂
Nick didn't tell her about anything cuz he liked that Rachel loves him for who he is,not for his money, but yeah,it was inconsiderate of him not letting her prepare for anything,if it wasn't for her best friend helping her dress for the party she would've been insulted, critized, and so on.
I actually understand Nick behavior. Like Astrid and His mom said, Nick is forget his family, he forget that his family and their friends can be super intimidating for common people, also Nick is the golden son of the family, he not received many intimidating from his family. When Rachel told him about the dead fish, it the moment Nick actually remember that his family and friend can be cruel, thats why in wedding he thought Rachel will be hiding. Nick behavior is actually super real, try live outside ur family for years (without coming home) with super different lifestyle, you will be forget your family behavior. Thats what happened to Nick
That’s why you don’t have a boyfriend. Nick is obviously a great guy, he’s not comfortable with talking about his family due to issues that are throughly explained throughout the movie. And it’s not like he knows how they’re going’s to treat her. This is the first time he’s brought her to his family. If anything he’s down to earth and doesn’t partake in the snobbish behavior which some of his relatives relish in. Talking about a problematic family isn’t exactly something to be proud of.
Given that this is likely the only splurge he’s done since he left Singapore, it’s believable to say it’s their money and not his. Besides, the whole thing with his family is that he’s the heir to his family’s business so while he got to enjoy living in the lap of luxury, aside from any amount he personally has, the family is the one with the money, not him.
Man knew his girl is a Econ proffesor, so he tried to change the subject with "dim sum" because saying retail, stocks as "nothing special" is a dead giveaway that dude was secretly loaded.
My dad is a CEO of a major company and my mom is an HR director…safe to say we are “comfortable” but I’ve always lived a very independent life and preferred to get what I earned in life. Not really, it really depends how much your time is worth. Chartering a private plane instead of taking a regular passenger plane to the same destination means you need to get to your destination ASAP. If the difference is an hour or so, it might not be worth it. But if it’s the difference of 24+ hours, then it might be worth it.
No, you see, the movie messed with the details. Nick's actual family is not that rich. The opening scene, in which his mother buys a hotel, does not happen in the books. That was a different family. In the books, Nick's father is an engineer and is reasonably comfortable, but not super rich. And Nick himself has not inherited a significant amount of money
this angle/part makes it slightly unrealistic. the story is very relatable with the over-protective mother and traditional values them but this part makes no sense he's not dumb he knows his family he wouldve told her by this point at the very least to bring nice clothes with her
This part is both unrealistic and realistic at the same time 😅 bc real spoiled rich kid is quite naive and think they’re like everybody else. Nick character is consistently naive and thought that his family would love who he love to a frustrating point. Even his bff called him out, that him being a “golden child” shielded him but that does not extend to his partner.
This reminds me of when I brought my ex to my parents' place for the first time, but definitely not to this extent. I live on a modest income comfortably and willingly; he came from a lower-middle class family. However, my parents could be considered upper class, they prefer the term "well-off". The moment he first stepped into my parents' country house complete with insanely-huge backyard that overshadowed the front yard (which can host at least two events), he looked around for a few seconds, turned to me, and asked these famous words: "You never told me you were RICH!!!" My answer? "I'm not rich, my PARENTS are." Just because I was spoiled sweet as a child does NOT mean I was spoiled when I moved out. My dad taught me the value of money, to "want what I have, not have what I want". Of course, that didn't stop my ex from finding every excuse to visit my parents place to enjoy their expensive TV for sports night. The cherry on top? Before getting to know me and my family, my ex's younger sister accused me of being a gold digger since her brother had a better-paid job than mine at the time.
