Haha tbh if i was them I’d take the money and ask for a house just so I can live comfortably. Not a mansion mind you just a nice house preferably 4 bedroom with a nice looking garden. That wouldn’t be owned by them like I’d own the actual property. That way I’d be set for life. Then I’d just use the money given for utilities and such. I wouldn’t spend it on extravagant stuff so that money would at least last hopefully until my grandkids.

Peik Lin's house is more of a McMansion. It's amazing and probably cost a fortune by Singapore standards but not a "true mansion". Hint: you can see it clearly from the gate.

Awkwafina was such a revelation in this movie. She put such a fun, quirky, loveably goofy spin on the book version of the character and it totally worked. She is that ride or die friend who will hold you down, dress you up, drag you to filth, tell you the truth and always promises a great time. She was delightful.

Lol in the book, Peik Lin was less of a joker, and more ambitious (Peik Lin also planned to steal Nick from Rachel lmaooo) but even tho this Peik Lin is so far from the book description, Awkwafina did a great job.

In the books, the Youngs are super secretive. No one knows them unless you're in their social circle. The Gohs didn't know either. Peik Lin was stunned to see their mansion when she drove Rachel to the mansion. She didn't know such a huge property exists in Singapore. She and her dad started digging and asking people who know. In the film, they changed the secrecy part so Peik Lin's family all know the Youngs. But they kept the part where the Youngs' mansion can't be found by the GPS.
Actually, a huge undeveloped land exists in the center of Singapore. It's along a road called Tyersall road and it's right by the Botanic Garden, just as described in the book. The land belongs to the Prince of Johor (Malaysia). That's the inspiration for the Tyersall Park in the book. You can see it on the map of Singapore. Bloomberg reported on this after the movie came out. The land wasn't zoned for commercial. The report estimates that if the land gets zoning changed, the land could be worth $3 billion given the central location, the size and the scarcity of undeveloped land in Singapore.
