Can’t believe you guys did this song. I’ve been trying to get people to react to this song for a long time. Linda Ronstandt made this song great and Van Halen Van Halenized it. Just listen to Edward’s guitar tone. What an incredible lead. Just the Bass thumping an A and Eddie just KILLS it. Oh My!! All I Can say Is It Is The Mighty Van Halen!!! What a sound!!!!!!
The Diver Down album had some great covers, along with some others. I think it's an under rated album with Cathedral, Little Guitars, and the intro to Pretty Woman, Intruder. Great guitar work by Eddie,, and Michael Anthony. And Alex is phenomenal on the drums-Dave is Dave
Van Halen were actually very, very good at making cover songs their own. They took well known songs and really turned them into Van Halen songs, which is a real talent to be able to do. Shows their creativity, musicianship & of course Dave's special vocals. I think Eddie did a lot of the rearranging of the songs to fit their vision for it.
Diamond Dave, the original singer, the singer on their first and best 6 albums, he was influenced by Motown. That's why they had second to none 3-part harmonies. That was all Diamond Dave. Thank you for reviewing my all-time favorite band. God bless!
It was early 1979. I was 12 years old. I had been at a friend's house, he suggested I take home Van Halen II and take a listen. The 1st song that spun up was You're No Good. I was hooked! For the next several years I would be at the record store looking for each additional Van Halen record as soon as it came out. The first four albums changed my life and rock-n-roll for that matter.
The original track was recorded in 1963 by Dee Dee Warwick... It became a #1 hit sung by Linda Ronstadt in 1974 ... I highly recommend the Linda Ronstadt version. In Van Halen's club days, the club owners complained that their covers sounded nothing like the original hits 😂 and would often decline to hire the band... Eddie Van Halen said years later that it was a blessing because it made them sound more original. I think the secret in the band was that the high screams were performed by bassist Michael Anthony... most Van Halen fanboys call it ludicrous, but Michael Anthony confirmed it in recent years because lead singer David Lee Roth was not the best vocalist.
Haha.... somewhere Eddie says in an interview, "when I'd sit down and learn somebody else's song, I'd try and try to get it to sound just like the record, but it always ended up sounding like us." Or to that effect.
Those high screams in this song are David Lee Roth - no doubt. However the super high screams on some songs were Michael. In On Fire both Roth and Anthony are screaming “On Fire” and Anthony has the highest scream. He had/has a super high 1st tenor voice. Ed called it the highs from hell!
When I saw them for the first time they were still opening - this time for Black Sabbath. Since they only had one album released to the public they played every song from it except Little Dreamer, but did play this from the upcoming 2nd album creating opportunity for Michael Anthony to play a bass solo and lead into this rendition.
I'm 54 been a fan of this band since I was 12 and best band ever imo also got dancing in the streets another song van halen covered on the album diver down .when they covered a song they did it better then any band
Going way back on this great Linds Ronstadt cover by V.H. Such a smooth bass intro and killer guitar lick. You have to do "Beautiful Girls" if you haven't already.
Most think Motley Crue wrote the best "Stripper" songs. But I would argue Van Halen does it better. This tune and "Dirty Movies" have to be the two best pole-worthy songs IMO.
Pardon me BJ, Asia has the the absolute beauty and attitude to strut her stuff on the runway to this song. She would be the top model hands down on that runway. To top it off, at the end of the runway, she will pull out her lip gloss, like she always does, and make this an epic strut by glossing her lips. LOL Yes, Asia, I can see this song in a runway show.
Every Cover they did they made their own,.99% all bands when they cover a song they just try to sound like the original artists,.Van Hale knew they were better ,..lol~
Great reaction as usual. I always thought David Lee Roth's screams in this song were more grating than steel wool and sand paper. However, the groove is undeniably good.
this was actually Van Halen - Down In Flames but they were coursed to do this cover instead and used the same foundation to do it.. not a bad cover but Down in Flames is an original and should have been the opening track.
Hey y’all 😄 Loved the reaction 😆 This takes me back to the beginning of my “high school journey” for real though!! But as much as I love their version(cause they really made it their own for sure), I have to give proper props to my junior high school love 💗 Miss Linda Rondstat🥰Her “original” version is just as great 👍 If y’all haven’t checked out her rendition, you really should!!🫵😆✌️🫶🎸
THE RULE of covering any song is to do it better. Listen to how Linda Ronstadt performed this originally and you will see the transformation from very well produced 70s blues/soul to hard, hard, dark rooooock!
The harmonies are Michael to be clear. That particular scream in this song is definitely the trademark of early David Lee Roth, as documented. Michael often added similar screams to songs like ON FIRE in a live situation. A David Lee Roth scream is very distinct
@@stephenpemberton85 You're No Good is on Van Halen II,,.I know this because I had the Album and listened to it after Light Up the Sky about 100,000 times~ 2nd track on the LP
@@matthewmatt5285 So you're saying the Martha and the Vandellas song Dancing in the street covered by VH on Diver Down is on VH II? Dance the night away is a VH original and you're no good is a Kinda Rondstadt cover.
Holy crap - I bet it's been 30 years since I've heard this...maybe more! I forgot about it. I still like Linda Ronstadt's version better. There's a live version of her on youtube.
OK Guys - like I said GREAT JOB on this one. Here is another Great One on the same Album. Here it is - "Beautiful Girls". You will have a good time with this one. Diamond David Lee Roth is a lot of fun on this Song - it's a great beach song. Please react to this Beautiful Girls - Trust me!
I’ve got the respect for y’all and a subscriber but you guys choked on this reaction.. Give the Edward the respect you should of went back to one of Eddie’s great solo
The Mighty Van Halen. Nobody did it better.
This song is soo groovy and sweet. Love it. Man this is REAL ROCK. That tone, that tone! The mighty van halen.

Van Halen ll. What a great album! Great reaction!
They made this into a VH song. Period. Some great guitar work in this too.
Well said!!!

VH caught flak for this cover back when it came out. Hearing it now sounds pretty damn good. They rocked it.
Another great song is Little Dreamer off their debut album. Thanks for the great reaction!
YES!!!!!! Don't forget The Atomic Punk!!

Van Halen was great, one of the best rock bands ever
nobody could make a scream cooler than DLR.
I believe this was first recorded by Dee Dee Warwick in 1963, then by Linda Ronstadt in 1974. Ronstadt hit number one with her cover.
Also, Betty Everett deserves a mention for having a hit with it in 1963.
Damn, never knew this was a cover at all.
I love Linda's version. It's amazing. I like VH's version too.

song really takes me back..cruising in the convertible the summer after HS grad!
It is a cover of a Linda Rondstat version of a song from 1963 written by Clint Ballard.
VH is one of the few bands that made covers their own and Very Well I might add.
❤❤❤ Love this group. Eddie sure can rock that guitar. I seen them in Indianapolis lndiana.
Original by Liverpool band, The Swinging Blue Jeans in the 60's, then Linda Ronstadt 70's.
I can honestly say Asia and BJ are Van Halen fans now 🤘🤘
I remember buying this record at an Oasis Record store in my teens! Good times!

Eddie seems to be imitating Dave's screams on this one, surprisingly enough.
The hi pitch screams are Michael Anthony (Bass Player)
Please review the live version of this song 😊 it’s even better live!
Yes Asia, I am 100% sure I have had a few moments coming out of the shower to this song lol
