So now you know....when people talk smack about Van Hagar...Sammy is actually a very good guitarist in his own right. Dave was a great performer, but it was a lot of entertaining antics. Van Hagar didn't need the antics. There was pure talent going on there. I love the Van Hagar days just as much as the Dave days. I just want to say also I really appreciate the authentic appreciation you have for VH.

Eddie…. So missed RIP. Those of us who were there from the beginning of Van Halen in the 70s, were so in love with David Lee Roth, on vocals. He was handsome, athletic and very “colorful” on stage. When he left to go on his own, Sammy Hagar came in. Honestly, I fought that for a while but adding that third guitar to Eddie and Michael was genius. Sammy has vocals and guitar chops, as well as Michael Anthony on bass. But it didn’t last long…. Glad Eddie and Sammy reconciled toward the end.

I would rate this 10/Hagar. Written by Sammy and released originally in 1982 on the Standing Hampton album which itself is a kick ass album with songs like "Baby's On Fire" and "Heavy Metal"

The version of this song on" Live Without A Net" is my favorite live rendition of this particular song! Eddie's showmanship REALLY comes through on THAT performance!

I first saw Sammy Hager when he opened up for Boston in the late 70s. He was in a duel just like you watched and the power went out. Needless to say he wasnt able to finish but being my first concert, he left a lasting impression. Check out Chickenfoot and Sammy and the circle. He is still rockin it.

The lead singer at this time is Sammy Hagar aka: The Red Rocker. Sammy was from Fontana CA...old stomping grounds. Many of us referred to the band as Van Hagar following the swap of David Lee Roth for Sammy Hagar.

No one reacts to the song “women and children first” or “could this be magic”. Both are amazing songs that have a chill groove. Excellent guitar and crafty lyrics.

First let me say I love Van Halen. Original line up and with Sammy. I love Eddie. He is the greatest gutairist of all time. However wat amazes me during this time. Eddie was a full blown cocaine addict and alcoholic. And yet still was able to perform flawlessly. I guess it was routine for him. Incredible. RIP EDDIE VAN HALEN

Van Halen is great with everything they did , Sammy Hagar brought his great singing voice and lyric writing skills to Van Halen when David Lee Roth left the band

Every Van Halen concert was top notch and 110%....they never let up....ever.
I remember an interview where Sammy Hagar talks about joining Van Halen and how he had to step up because he was joining a band with a music legend-EVH. They performed well together.

The Tokyo 1989 preformance is the best I've ever seen live. They were all preforming amazing, and as far as I'm aware in Japan they would have a hard time getting drugs, so perhaps it's one of their few sober shows. Though you'd think it was fueled by meth.

There was no 3rd guitarist....Just Eddie Van Halen and Sammy Hagar the singer. The other guy you're talking about with a guitar is bassist Michael Anthony.
