Alex Van Halen is one of the most under rated drummers out there IMO. Everybody talks about his brother Eddie on the guitar, but he laid down some seriously cool drums in the back.
You right,Rick! I think he could do more complex things if he wanted, but he was being a good brother and supporting Eddie. He didn't try to be the star of the show, imo
Bro Alex is a beast no doubt about it
One of my faves!
Who sed he suct?
He's no Portnoy or Peart, but he's good
Diamond Dave always brought the attitude with his vocals and lyrics. Respect.
And his humor
They were like the ROCK and ROLL Voltron. And Dave was lead singer/head lion. So much swagger!‼️👊👍 Perfect for smoking 420, hitting the weights, and snowboarding 💯
To be 13 years old in 1978 and hearing this for the first time in 7th -8th grade. Then riding all over town on a bicycle, with this cassette blasting from one's radio. Memories of a lifetime !
14 year old for me back then, and totally agree!
7 for me Thank God I had older sisters and a brother to introduce me to them. VH has been with me all my life.
for sure. I was 11 in 1978 and just getting into music. My older sister bought a few albums and I ended up with them just because I couldn't get enough. Along with Van Halen 1, she had Aerosmith Toys in the Attic, Molly Hatchet Flirting with Disaster, Pat Travers Live...... Go for What You Know and a few others. Van Halen took it to another level.
19 at the time! Great music back then!!!!! Great time to be young!!!!!
12 in 78 first time I heard VH was at a friends house and running with the Devil it blow my mind I was hooked. Seen them many many times over the years. RIP EVH the best guitar player in the world !!
From their first album and Still one of their best. Another groundbreaking guitar sound from Eddie.
Still one of their best? Do you wait for a better one? It is the best.
@@myplan8166 I think my favorite is Take Your Whiskey Home or maybe Mean Streets.
Fire! "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" rocks! Released in 1978, this song launched a thousand garage bands and more without a doubt. When you're ready for more from Van Halen check out "Running with the Devil", "Atomic Punk", "Dance the Night Away", "Everybody Wants Some!!", "Unchained", "Mean Street", and "I'll Wait", along with many others.
Probably the best rock band to ever come out of America.
Agreed.
The.....
no doubt. truly the mighty van halen
Billy Gibbons would like a word.
Eddie always brought that heat on guitar. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Totally agree., My favorite guitarist of all time. The 🐐. R.I.P. Eddy Van Halen.
@@chriswildhaber35 Mine to I was 7 years old when VH 1 released. Had 2 teenage sisters and 1 brother. I literally grew up always hearing either VH or Boston through the house. Eddie is why I started playing guitar and still do to this day. I was crushed when he passed and still can't believe he's gone sometimes. Heros aren't supposed to die. But at least we have his music and always will.
RIP EVH
This was the album that changed rock music forever when Eddie Van Halen hit those strings and everybody heard him for the first time they knew that there was somebody new special
My favourite VH song. RIP Eddie. Thank you for your immense contribution to the arts.
Mine as well.
Me three
+4! "Hey, hey, hey!"
This was Van Halen's first album in 1978... In the era of disco music, when rock n' roll music was basically on life support, this record came out and literally exploded in popularity... sold over 10 million copies in the US, made Van Halen stars overnight. Guitarist Edward Van Halen (R.I.P.) was hailed as the best guitar player of this time... his innovative skills changed guitar playing forever 🤘🤘Van Halen's music set the stage for the 80's rock scene.
The original Van Halen was Edward Van Halen (guitar/keyboards), his brother Alex Van Halen (drums), Michael Anthony (bass/backing vocals) and David Lee Roth (lead vocals)... In 1985, Van Halen parted ways w/ David Lee Roth, and Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen in 1986 until 1996...
Sadly, we lost Eddie Van Halen to cancer in 2020 😪
Can you picture "Aint Talking About Love" being the last song of the night and 30,000 people singing Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
It was the biggest party in town!👍
Man I wish I could've experienced the Diamond Dave years. I mean just put those albums up against everything else that was popular at that time, and you instantly see just how unique Van Halen really was. A whole world of heavy music was inspired by Dave era VH.
Oh yes I can STILL remember seeing Van Halen live back in 1979 when I was 16 this was my favorite song and when they did this I remember my sister pushing my fucked up ass off my seat lol great memories STILL love this song!!
Yes, I can! Been there, done that...except it was "Van Hagar". lol
That live sound is part of why I love Van Halen. It's like they walked into the studio, laid the track down together in a few takes, and left. And that's kind of what they did. I think it took about a week or two to record the first album. They had the songs mostly written and had performed together so much that it just didn't take a lot to make it sound good. It let them be raw and not over processed.
This album was recorded pretty much live. And in a relatively short time. Part of why it sounds so raw. Just plug in play and hit record. Sad modern music isn't done the same way. It's all click tracks overdubs and auto tune now. Probably why so many bands don't sound as good in concert as they do in record
“They got a hell of a drummer and guitarist, man”
Yeah they brothers man!!!
Alex and Eddie Van Halen 👍
YES!! THIS IS THE BEST VAN HALEN SONG EVER!! ASIA YOU REACTED JUST THE WAY WE DID BACK IN 78 WHEN THIS CAME OUT!!!! THIS SONG IS JUST AS HOT NOW AS IT WAS THEN! RIP EDDIE!! WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!! ❤
There is actually a lot of jazz influence in the group that comes out on tracks like "I'm the One", "Outta Love Again", "Sinner's Swing", and "Hot for Teacher". Oddly, these are also some of their hardest rockin' tracks. So much fun!!!
It’s the drumming
Not surprisingly considering their father, Jan Van Halen was a jazz/swing clarinetist.
@@armynurseboy And Dave is a big Vaudeville fan.
It’s the drumming, that swaggy swing that's so inimitable.
Sorry about another comment but you just finished your reaction and BJ mentioned hell of a drummer and guitarist, that's because they are brothers. Alex (drummer) and Eddy(guitarist) Van Halen.
One of the best debut albums ever, ever!
in all seriousness, i don't know how someone can point to another debut rock album that is more important
If this song doesnt make you jump up and dance around like an idiot...then your not alive!
@@oldschool4382 😂😂😂
David Lee Roth and Apollonia had a nice relationship going at the time of "Purple Rain". Prince wanted her to keep it quiet. She said they dated three months before things got intimate. She said he was always a gentleman, but that she knew when he was on tour, that the world was his. He and Alex Van Halen were notoriously wild in those years!
This whole album is easily a top 10 all time masterpiece imo
per the year and per this being their first album and pound for pound quality of every tune + the gamechanging reality of Ed's guitar work, I don't know how anyone can point to another debut that excels it.
Van Halen was a special band.
As a kid in 1980s Los Angeles, they were like comic book superheroes. Its so awesome to see them win you over so quickly. Why I picked up a guitar at 7 years old. 40 years later, I still play every day.
Alex Van Halen is a beast on the drums.
FUN FACT: When Eddie and Alex Van Halen were kids, Eddie was actually a drummer and Alex was a guitar player. They ended up switching instruments at one point.
Ands it’s over 40 years old! Great is great
My all-time favorite VH tune!! Use to love playing it in our cover band!!!
Was in Highschool, my senior year, and jamming to this in my car when it first came out. Was blown away like everyone else.
Ahhhh. The good old days with great music.
I remember going to their concert in 1981. It was crazy, and I pretty much fixated on Eddie playing the guitar the whole time. BTW, the ticket was $9.00 plus a .25 cent "convenience fee" 😲 😊. (I still have the ticket stub in my Senior Memory book!)
Imagine a concert crowd at the part when everyone is shouting Hey Hey Hey.
Saw Van Halen 1979 they were warming up Black Sabbath and the crowd was blown away! Eddie, Alex, Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth were all so creative it was awesome! Glad you guys know how to rock!!!
Toni Iomi must have been pissed lol
The original lead singer in van halen including in this song is David Lee Roth and later replaced by Sammy hager
Whole band is tight and on point but Alex Van Halen deserves much love, dude never stops hitting a cymbal somewhere
As a 16 year old when this came out, it was a mind blowing musical exposure and paved the way for other metal bands like Def Leppard's "On Through the Night", and Scorpion's "Animal Magnetism" albums. Van Halen I and II were epic in the same way Led Zeppelin was about 5 years earlier. Truly iconic recordings to me back then.
Hell yeah!!!
Scorpions are my favorite band.
@@chriswildhaber35 oh hell yes. we partied and freaking ROCKED out all night sittin by the fire outside at night, or throwin shoes during the day back when they were a super fresh band back in the mid 80's and on into the millennial bro!!!
Whenever Eddie and Valerie were in town Shreveport I would drive by Valerie's parents house trying to meet them but they stayed hidden in the house. Lol
Hard to believe this record is 44 yrs old. I was 11 when this came out. Still have this on vinyl.
My favorite song by them is the cradle will rock. Jamie's crying is another great one.
One of their best live songs…such a scene when they sing, “hey, hey, hey” throughout the ending and everyone in the crowd is pumping their fists singing it right back to them👊🏼🤘🏼
One of the best intro riffs ever
For my money the unsung hero of early Van Halen is Michael Anthony's bass playing but also his fantastic high harmonies. They matched perfectly with David Lee Roth vocal
No band is good without a strong rhythm section and Alex and Mike are one of the best ever. His playing wasn't the most technical but man they could just get in the groove and keep it there. To me it's just as much a part of the VH sound as Eddie's tone.
This is my favorite out of all VAN Halen songs.
Same
Remember seeing them open for Black Sabbath. Probably 78-79. VH was badass then!!! Fresh out of the bar scene.
You guys could look up a playlist from their first album and every song on it is pure gold. That first album Van Halen, got played so much. On the radio, at your house, at the park, out at the lake oh, it was ubiquitous because it was just so amazing.
" You know your semi good looking" cracks me up everytime
My Fav song!!’. Glad I got to see them live x4 in their prime years!!
So cool to see Y'all enjoy this tune from their 1978 debut self-titled album, and Van Halen's "1980 Invasion" tour was my very first live concert at the age 0f 8!!!
Probably my favorite rock song ever As soon as i heard that on the radio i went out and bought the album
1 of the best songs from the classic lineup.
At the time, so many guitarists had no clue how the late Eddie had the tone and how he could play the solos! 🤯
Neal Schon of Journey was clueless. 🤯Luckily, Ed called him a lot in the early days when Van Halen opened for Journey.
Joe Satriani had no clue either! 🤯 He eventually figured out the solos.
Suggested next video 📹 Atomic Punk.
RIP Eddie van Halen.
Yes!!!!!! Atomic Punk for sure
The live sound is because the album was literally recorded live in the studio, with only a handful of guitar overdubs.
the album that drove people to get VH tatts...so dirty, so raw, pure rock!
Great Reaction!!!
Early Van Halen delivered songwise and Performance wise.
Excellent choice!! Eddie killed on this joint. This takes me back to junior high school. RIP EVH!!
My fave VH song!
"You know you're semi good looking"
Best line ever! Honorable mention Tom Petty "You got lucky babe when I found you"
My favorite Van Halen song! Right from the start of the opening guitar riff, this song is just a straight up banger!
Thier first four albums are AMAZING. All Classics.
Love that BJ always gets his names right, regardless of genre. That is so important. Kudos, man.
One off their debut album way back in 1978. They put the world on notice there was a new player in town.
David Lee Roth aka Diamond Dave....and Lead Guitar = Eddie Van Halen + drums = Alex Van Halen....this was their first single and it was fire!!
Alex Van Halen is a beast on the drums. Very under rated. And Eddie is one of the most amazing guitarist you will ever hear. Please react to Steelheart...."I'll Never Let You Go", "Can't Stop Loving You", & "She's Gone". Three great songs from Steelheart. The band rock's and the lead singer voice is amazing. You will not be disappointed.
Asia and BJ, just put on anything from their first six albums. You'll love it all! Great Channel. Much love.
Alex always had the best snare tone always RIP Edward
Great Band Party On RIP Eddie . Seen Van Halen In Concert We all Partied With Them That Night
Back in the day we had this blasting on the Pioneer SuperTuner cassette decks in our cars with the windows down cruising down the road!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
This is an amazing reaction to this song. You two are the best.
BJ’s reaction is spot on to this kick ass VH song. I remember when this album came out in 1978
Favorite band of all time. Nice reaction!
Think about it. This was 1978! Stands the test of time pretty darn well. Imagine how I felt as an 18 year old hearing it for the first time all those years ago!😎
BJ you nailed it when you said it sounded live, those early recordings were one takes played in same room together. The early albums were magic, pure rock n roll porn.
I seen these guys in concert twice 1981 and 1982 in Vegas, what great shows they were!
Van Halen Rocked !! Saw them in the 80s
Another perfect Rock song !……Iconic guitar riff, thumping bass line, crashing drums & Dave’s swag !
This album dropped in 1978 and nuked and paved the electric guitar
Alex and Eddie together are amazing. Just like to point out when this album was released, containing Eddies masterpiece Eruption, Eddie was only 23 yr old.
Saw them in concert, LA Forum 81. They were incredible to see.
One of the best bands!!
That riff is ridiculous, it’s so contagious.
Many have said it before me. Many will say it after me. RIP Eddie Van Halen. Guitar wizard. Top 10.
I really love Asia and BJ ... THE ROCKERS !!! You two are so cool when you get in that mode/mood !!! Yeah, you feel me 👍😊🙌😁😎
Banging song from the band of my time. Love seeing you guys enjoy it too!
BJ says Yo! Asia is like I don't know about this message lol. Great song for many reasons. I Love Van Halen
FIRE TRACK! you nailed it Asia, you rock!
Absolute great tune my Favorite
Alex said he gets the biggest heaviest drumsticks he can find and then he turns em around backwards 🤘
I’m here for the Van Halen reactions man!! I’m all about it!
You would have loved a Van Halen concert live! Back in the day!
I was 14 in 1978 when this album came out this has been one of my top 3 songs of all time to this day
Asia you’re beautiful 😘😘
"...you know you're semi-good lookin'..." What a stinking lyric!
"Outta Love Again" gotta do it. There most underrated song.
Love you guys reaction to this ❤️ You can't go wrong with Van Halen
Dang this song brings back such good times in my life
Michael Anthony was one of the best Bass guitarists ever!
Thanks for the videos on the Van halen and and you are awesome.
Paolo from Italy 👍🎸
Alex (The Drummer) and Eddie (The Guitar) are brothers. Awesome family talent!!!!!
Crazy that Alex started playing guitar first and Eddie drums. They sort of flipped and magic was found.
SO THIS FROM THEIR DEBUT 78 ALBUM ( VAN HALEN ) GO FIGURE! :) OTHER HITS : RUNNIN WITH THE DEVIL , ICE CREAM MAN, JAMIE'S CRYIN :) ENJOY
I wish you could've seen Eddie in live before he passed. My hero went out at the absolute top of his game, just watch videos from his last show at the Hollywood Bowl... It was unbelievable.
Tell you what...you keep doing VanHalen once in a while, and I'll stay subscribed, deal? XD Great reaction, guys!
Seen them about 6 times live. That's where they shine. Watch some live videos you'll love them.
My theme song. Thanks for playing
I’ve always loved that song. Rest in peace, Eddie.
Miss you Eddie but your legacy will always be with us ! One of the best guitarists ever...
That's one thing I wish I would have seen them in concert in 98. I had to sell my tickets.
Loudest concert I have ever been to - Fair Warning tour.
You guys are cool. Love seeing you rock out
Van Halen’s best song ever! Love this
I think their best song ever is....all of them lol.
