- Howcast is a tutorial how-to channel that was created in 2007, at first, their content was great, and highly popular, pulling in millions of views. But as time went on, through the years, the channel slowly started to die, with the content becoming worse and worse, along with the viral Howcast kissing videos. Howcast in 2020 is almost unbearable and completely pointless.

I learned from howcast on how to takeoff an air plane few hours ago then I realised there was not any video on how to land it .please help😢😢😢.
Here's whatchya do.
Cut the throttle down to like 10% power, get your speed down, get close to the ground point your nose up a bit so ya don't flip over head first and kill yourself, then cut the throttle the rest of the way and push on the brakes. Also try not to catch a cross wind. That could flip your plane over and kill you. That's about as good of an explanation you'll get from about ten minutes in a flight simulator.

As a Greek person, this is the funniest thing ever, because even if they technically use a correct word, here they use a really archaic way of writing the word ("Ποίος" is two syllables long, unlike "Ποιος" which is one syllable, and the former is considered an old way of saying "Who" in Greek), they misread the word ("Ποίος" isn't read in the way the lady read it, the lady said "Ποιος" instead, accents in Greek matter a lot) and the even funnier thing is that the Latin transliteration below (Peos) means "Penis" in Greek
Simmilarly, at 6:20 "Pewnie" in polish translates into into "sure", the actual way to say "ok" in polish would be pronounced "Okey"

Your description of their "Learn a Language" videos really reminds me of the episode of "Dexter's Laboratory" when Dexter tries to learn French from a record that teaches the French term for "Cheese omelette" (omelette du fromage), but that part skips over and over, so he ends up turning his entire vocabulary into just "omelette du fromage", which is all he could ever say.

When I was younger (I want to say age 8-9yo at the earliest) I was a HUGE fan of Howcast and I don’t really know why. I usually only watched the videos with silly animation or people acting in silent skits while the voiceover told you how to do whatever. I didn’t really learn anything from them and I don’t think they were very useful for me. I haven’t watched their stuff in years tho.

Usually they are interchangeable, but sometimes it just feels weird if you switch them around, it's a bit difficult to explain, though.

I think Howcast's strategy is to target popular Google searches, which is actually really smart. They moved on to those weird newer videos because they got all the most popular searches and they were moving down the list.

I feel like the purpose of the channel is to create an encyclopedic database of tutorials. Like the language expressions for example, they're not trying to teach you the language, just to serve as easy consultation. If you read a word in a foreign language it's kinda hard to try and find out how it's pronounced, and those videos serve as a decent consultation tool.
agree, I have encountered situations where I am unsure how to pronounce a certain word, I google it, and this channel pops up with a video on that particular word. It's quite useful.
