- I've always loved the small side activities and mini games that developers choose to work into their open world games. From Tennis and Golf in GTA V, to Poker in Red Dead 2 and Watch Dogs, as well as many more, a small addition can have a big effect in making a world feel more alive.

sure, the Rockstar games could be a thing for these mini-games, but let’s never forget the games from Club Penguin like Pizzatron 3000
I mean the difference between club penguin and gta in this case is that club penguin is a collection of these mini games, while gta has a standalone story plus the mini games

It was my favourite game in my old PS3
i remember playing tennis in gta 5
i was so invested into the game, that after i lost and it was almost midnight, i decided to still play to just show amanda how fuckin' the tennis coach doesn't make her good at the game
Ok
The Bar in stalker was always my favourite location to stop by
Not really relevant but felt like saying it
i loved far cry 5's fishing. one minute blowing shit up and then catching a break to go catch some fish. i truly felt like the 40 yr old boomer i knew i was.

imagine in like 2050 a game has a game inside of it which is literally like an open world title like skyrim.
I never managed to get GTAV when it was free.

A Way Out is great too. Since the game is basically centered around you and your friend trying to escape, there are so many games within the game. It's great, just great
Traveling for hours, beating monsters and meeting leaders just to get a new Gwent card. Those were the times
Minigames are something Nintendo often does well, like in the Zelda series. It adds flavour and a touch of realism and aliveness to the game world, and gives the player the option to set the pace of their gameplay how they like, but Nintendo also use the minigames to train you in gameplay mechanics and improve your actual skill as a player.

1 word: Fishing.
This video: _talks about mini-games existing in bigger open-world games_
The Yakuza Series: _isn't mentioned once, despite having pasttimes like karaoke, shogi, fishing, stock car racing, bowling, actual sega arcade cabinets, claw machines, disco clubs, billiards, darts, and a metric fuckton of other things to do between missions_
This feels like a crime, but it isn't..
I know right?
Yeah. Also the mini games in the fable series. I liked playing the memory games most.
Ikr
Yeah im dissapointed
It is a 7 min video though
Love games in games, amazing video. Keep up the great work.
A way out minigames are great. Especially connect 4. Takes more than the storyline
You are god damn hilarious man, witty humour, great references, good information. Perfecto
Loved this
0:05 will remain true forever
This was a great video but I think that Far Cry 3 deserved a mention in this video. The side game of the game was the common poker. But the thing was that in Far Cry 3 poker had a little bit of an interaction with the story. Most notably when you are forced to play 3 times throughout the game and on the last game you go all in betting your life.
dude, your editing is amazing.
Glad I found your channel. Very very underrated
Your older videos are just as good as your newer ones man, this is the quality content I subscribed for.
I remember playing all the sports in GTA Online with one my friends for a few hours lol
No RPG is complete without at least 1 casino minigame. Pokemon probably ruined my brain with the slot machine when I was a kid, with how much I played it
Yup, personally I have been a big fan of the trading card games in Final Fantasy series.
The editing is...
Beautiful 🥲
There are many games in ac valhalla which is really fun like orlog which just makes me calm and its enjoyable because it isnt as laggy as the rest of the game because of my gpu
Update: new pc, able to play all of ac valhalla now, including the other minigames
I'm playing Odyssey now and it pisses me off that there isn't a single minigame. I'm loving it anyway, but something's missing. I always spend a few hours playing minigames in every open world video game that has them.
Yakuza Series are pretty good to in this, between to story mission, there's a lot of activity to do , for example, in Yakuza 0, you can do Karaoke, go dance, race in miniature car racing, play some Sega arcade games, grab plushie with the claw machine, play some casino game, bowling, bar games, mahjong, shogi... And I think I forgot some... Really serious and fun game ^^
Isn’t there like a toilet game where you have to pee in the right way or something?
i’ve been watching your videos on binge recently. highly underrated
I love these. I played in shit ton of Darts in GTA5 and half my playtime in Farcry 3 is probably just the Poker game. Great to hear someone talk about these ´games in games
Mini-games are always an easy way to blow me away. Whether it's finding the first version of Celeste in Celeste, punching turkeys in DOOM, deckbuilding in Witcher III's Gwent or the aforementioned Poker and Blackjack in RDR, no game feels truly special without them.
We need more of this
You didn't mention Yakuza.
That shit has so many minigames it's silly.
Karaoke , batting cages , bowling, arcades/claw machines, darts,disco dancing...you know, just a few
nice video man! your content is good. keep up the good content and hope you get popular soon
Final Fantasy 7 (both the original and remake) had many fun and interesting mini-games I'd dare say the original played a big role in popularizing mini-games and made many people addicted to them (myself included) and expect them in RPGs and eventually in open-world games.
Watch dogs has a game where you gotta follow the ball under cups and theres a glitch where you can see the ball through the cups. I grinded money like that. Small amounts, yes, but still money.
Not to mention that Day of the Tentacle (an old 1993 2D puzzle game)'s remastered version included its whole prequel, Maniac Mansion, as an easter egg
Probably my favorite game which has small games in it is A Way Out, there's so many small things you can do like playing darts, arm wrestle, play instruments, lift weights, and even play an arcade game. Probably the coolest part about A Way Out's games is that you're usually facing off against either Vincent or Leo.
Wanna go bowling
yes, yes i do
Legend says he's still bowling
Your vids are super high quality bro, hope you explode in a big way
Damn your editing style is so fucking good its like a toned down twomad editing.
The Yakuza series is really a gem in terms of mini games
YES! The addition of minigames adds sooo much to a game. Especially Rockstar titles. I love that the characters and locations persist in the game world. Shooting the other poker players is always a fun option. Or you can tear up the course with a hyper-car after losing a round of golf. Beat that PGA. Simply being able to interact with an arcade cabinet or poker table (like... y'know, real life) is an instant immersion booster. Also great for role-playing, which every game has an aspect of even if it's not an RPG. Tearing up a golf course is exactly what Trevor would do, and no Western setting is complete without gambling and quick-draw duels.
You can bet on cockfights in Sleeping Dogs too. And on my second playthrough of The Witcher 3 it basically became Gwent World Tour, while monster hunting was simply the means to fund my gambling lol
Watch dogs 1 is my fav for minigames. Chess, poker, cash run, nvzn, 4 digital trips (i only played alone and spider tank), drinking game, ball cup game, etc.
This is why I play MMOs. The one I'm on at the moment (ffxiv) I play every day and for the last 2 weeks have done nothing story related and just horsed around doing side stuff. They have card games and chocooboo racing and fishing (i fished for 6 hours the other day) and so many in game things and that isn't counting all the player driven activities like fashion parades and music concerts, you can play one of about 20 instruments and play them as a band together. So many other things to do that aren't the main game.
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess had one absolutely beautiful area that was entirely dedicated to fishing. The art style and the beautiful music just went together like bread and butter. There was also a shit ton of fish to collect. It was just a really nice change of pace from slaying evil twilight monsters every once in a while.
Liars Dice in Red Dead 1 will always be my favorite in-game minigame
Liked and subbed for the mention of barnyard a forgotten masterpiece
ngl I was expecting to see "the lost viking" from starcraft 2
You should've talked about how Naughty Dog made the original Crash Bandicoot playable in Uncharted 4, it was a really fun part of the game, possibly my favorite part in the whole thing, it was so cool.
The entire first act of Uncharted 4 assimilating into Nathan's life is some of the best character building I've played through in a game and getting to play Crash Bandicoot with Nate and Elena's adorable commentary was the cherry on top of it all imo.
Absolutely loved playing golf in GTA, would solely just log on to play that with friends & also love playing dominos in red dead at Emerald Station to pass time.
Another good example of games within games is The yakuza series you can play full arcade games within the game
when I saw his chess video I thought that this guy is gr8 at editing and his channel only has 23 videos.
My favorite of all time tbh was the Viking table top game in AC Valhalla. Honestly so fun. The stone stacking mini game was fun too, super relaxing. Horseshoes in the original rdr always slapped, wish they brought it back. Same with liars dice.
A class video
May you have a constant flow of ideas to make videos like this always.
I wanna play a game inside a game that has a game inside it and it goes on endlessly with every game having a game inside it.
Can't believe the various schools (driving, flying, boating, etc.) from San Andreas didn't get a nod!! One of my all-time favorite additions to the niche genre
I remember playing GTA Online with my friend, we had an entire fucking game out there to play but nah, we just kept playing golf and Tennis.. Worth it.
Mah man, I think you would love a little game called Yakuza.
Golden Saucer in Final Fantasy XIV, things like that let you keep playing the game, while also taking a break from the game. That’s why it’s immersive! Choice of what to do can easily outweigh heavily detailed textures
So civil so detailed and something everyone can agree to.
Yakuza is super fun with bowling, arcades, Dart, poker, blackjack ect. that game is great
I’m a new subscriber and you have quality content
One of the oldest I remember is the captain quark video game inside ratchet and clank 3 on ps2. That mini game with in a game was so flushed out, there were even cheats for it
Great video but it's a shame you didn't mention the ball under a cup game from Watch Dogs. I loved that!
Rdr2 even has different poker Locations with different decks and tables depending on where you play. So a backyard poker game had damaged cards, while a high end one had newer mor beautiful cards
This video deserves at least a million more views
Liked for the reference to Gunpoint.
what is it with members of crime syndicates and playing funky games,,
Bloody hell how did ya get soo good At editing
I remember in Sega Genesis, the Pitfall game had a hidden pitfall classic version to play.
Your channel is blooming quick
The most fun mini games I played was Gwent and Yakuza mini games

What do you mean? Simeon is just a legitimate business man, nothing to say more.
All the Games in Fable The Lost Chapters were amazing, and some of them you even had to do to get collectibles or rare items
In doom eternal you can play both the original doom and doom 2 trough an Easter egg, in my opinion, one of the best games within games

Honestly I LOVED Watch Dogs 1 & 2. The first one in particular had this special feel to it and the second game was fun with friends.
Watch dogs 1 was absolutely amazing
The 2 had absolutely horrible story and characters but the gameplay was so good

Doom eternal literally allows you to play priginal doom inside your base, its just the best
I’m obsessed with the dice game in Kingdom-come Deliverance
Great video!
The best part of GTA: Online - is the arcade.
Yes, arcade for Diamond Heist. Not because of the heist itself, even if I actually like it more than Cayo Perico, but for those machines. They even recently added QUB3D from GTA IV, which is awesome!
