- We always get questions about gaming sound bars and if gaming with a sound bar is actually worth it. In this video its time to answer some of those and find out how to set up a sound bar for the best gaming, movie and sound experience. Soundbar for PC makes a lot of sense actually since your sitting right infront of your monitor most of the time. Traditional TV soundbars struggle sometimes due to how different everyones living room setup is but PC has a lot less varience in that regard. Makes it much easier for developers to get the tuning right
Been using a sound bar with my TV for the last few years and I love it!
I bought this the day it dropped, it has been a gem for its size. For my small space connected to a lg 48 cx( pc console setup) it has been perfect. Sounds super clean and detailed, I also have the sb katana and razer sound bar and this one is better. The bass is rich and clean and surprisingly decent considering no dedicated subwoofer. Was worth the buy. If you need something to shake the house then this isn’t for you.

This review is the exact reason I bought this sound bar. Have not regretted it one iota. The only thing I'd like to see with this thing is support for HDMI 2.1 and higher refresh rates. I used it as a passthrough for my secondary monitor, because I can bare 60Hz on there. The 3D sound profile is actually surprisingly good.
Wow! This thing is amazing! 8:04 on full volume makes my smartphone with dual speakers vibrate! Not as much like build in vibration motor but putting on table it makes entire new sense
I’ve been using the Kanto SYD for over a year now. Essentially it’s their YU4 speakers on their side but fused together in a sound bar. Sits under my mounted monitor. Amazing sound and doesn’t take up too much space.

@@NeoChromer Decent sounbars are often around the 300 mark. Most stuff below is kind of lackluster where my Creative Soundblaster speakers that I paid €35 for over 15 years ago are still competitive with in sound quality. The Panasonic soundbar also has the DAC built in so you don't need an external one.
I use the Sony HT-SF200 soundbar and it's really very good for the price.
Great idea! I've had Bluetooth speakers plugged into my 2 monitors separately for a while now through audio out and USB. Perfect option!

I've been looking for something just like this. Well done. Conventional speakers are too tall for my monitor setup.
Been using a JBL soundplate (made for TVs) for a few years now. I love it compared to most other regular speaker setups and it's still rather tidy. Mine is sturdy enough to play my TV monitor on top of it.

The best volume setting in windows for undistorted sound is 95-100% and then change the volume through the bar/speakers

@@7DegreesOfFreedom if you are outputting to the soundbar with a digital signal you will want to give the soundbar full signal and cut away the volume using the soundbar. because the amp in the soundbar will have to work less to get the desired volume when giving it a louder sorce rather than making the amp work extra hard by giveing it a quiet signal and amplifying it to the desired volume and when the amp has to work less it should have a lower nose floor and possibly produce less distortion.
I am just a random guy on RUclips so if you wish to learn more I would suggest looking in more than one place for verification.

Same idea when I play audio through my car radio. Max the volume on the phone, adjust the radio. If my phone is half volume and my radio is up higher to compensate I don't get all the audio (mostly just lose some bass)
Same idea go to mouse dpi and sensitivity. Using high end gaming mice at like 20k dpi and using minimum mouse sensitivity in game do affect some some precision.

I've got the SoundBlasterX Katana soundbar and woofer, it's been out for years now but it's still damn impressive. Sometimes it tosses sound so far around my peripheral I think something totally unrelated to the game I'm playing just happened in the room

Interesting review, I personally have had just crap experience with sound bars, until that is I moved to my Creative Katana X. Love my Katana X. I personally hate headsets, not because they sound so good, but because they are touching me lol I can't even wear jewelry or a watch, so I only use headset when I play co-op games with friends. Really think more reviews of speaker products is in order....or is it we need new and better speaker products to make reviews of? :) One or the other, great work!
I just got one of these. If you clone your primary monitor to the soundslayer you don't get the extra display so you don't lose your cursor/windows. DP 1.2 to HDMI works as well (the sole HDMI on my GPU is taken by VR)

I have a full blown 5.1 surround system, and this shit forced me to lower the voice chat volume. Guaranteed to scare the shit out of you when someone just rustling their mic sounds like the world is ending.
I would love a direct comparison to the SoundblasterX Katana! I know you guys did a video on it but a followup would be really cool
I hate that soundbar lol. Bought 1 from massdrop, broken after couple mths. They didnt wanna do warranty because im in canada.

I have used my Yamaha HS7 for years now, My monitor (A Dell UltraSharp 2711U) is on top of it. Works amazing for me and doesn't take more space!. I got a pair of the speakers and both monitors sits on top of them and it just works and no room is taken
I’ve been looking for a pc gaming sound bar forever. More for just viewing movies and other media on my computer but in a sound bar style form factor. They do have some cheap brands on Amazon but this is basically what I wanted. I don’t regret getting Vanatoo’s but I probably would have got this to save space and some money
i use klipsch speakers, each of which is screwed onto a monitor arm, clamped onto the desk, so the only space taken up on my desk in the size of the clamps. the arms are meant to mount a screen on it, with full height, swivel, rotate, & forward/backward motion functionality

I've been using a Yamaha ys-103 soundbar for my computer speaker for the last 4 years. Great investment over standard of speakers
Great review. From my experience with a PC, sound bar and a monitor, or TV it is better to use optical for your sound source if the bar and the PC has one. I would get video and sometimes sound problems if I used the HDMI to pass the sound and video to the TV or monitor.
HDMI has the highest quality audio quality. You can’t even pass the newer atmos/dts x codecs via optical.
To make the "2nd monitor" issue moot, one thing you can do, is make the layout of the monitors only touch corners so the width of the mouse getting lost in the other "desktop" is only 1 pixel wide.
This was my solution to fixing this on my HTPC

Those are good speakers for the price range. Kanto also has some good speakers in the price range.
I have this soundbar I love it!!! I missed Panasonic.
300 bucks. I know that speakers use more space on the desk, but at that price, you can get a great 2.0 system.
At any pricepoint, the audio quality of two monitors is always better than soundbars.
Yeah, with soundbars you're largely paying for convenience. People will bend over backwards to avoid buying speakers these days.
@@RicochetForce Fortunately I've seen people with a 1k soundbar (crazy, I know) amazed by 500€ speakers (talking about HT), so they just have to try, to never come back.
Soundbars are great for stereo width when you have little desk space. I have floor standing studio monitors but I also have about 8ft of desk width
@@lamarlamarlamar Oh yeah, that's definitely a non-standard desk width. And I'm glad you brought up stereo width and imaging. Dmitrys touched on it, but as with displays there is a sweet spot for different audio sources.
To rectify the pc recognizing the soundbar as another monitor problem, plug the soundbar using the optical out of the mobo instead of the graphic card.
For the price of $300, you can get some really good bookshelf speakers that would sound far better. I'd recommend something like the Kanto YUs for that price. You'd be able to buy a pair of 140 watt powered bluetooth speakers.
The ghost monitor is resolved using the soundbar as passthrough of 1 of your actual monitors. That's how I have my TV hooked up as 3rd monitor through my Old Yamaha 5.1. not sure if it would affect refresh rate though.
Panasonic used to make the killer car audio decks in the late 90s. Still trying to find the deck I used to have in my 88 Tbird.

In general, you should keep window's volume at 100%, and adjust it through your amplifier/speakers.
1. Windows decrease volume digitally, in a way that degrades output audio quality.
2. Less stress on the amplifier circuitry that could result in distortions.
Yes I was looking for some clarification on this. I've always understood it to be windows at 100 then adjust through your actual audio equipment
On my PC running HDMI to a TV I get weird audio volume behavior if Windows isn't at 100% volume. Basically the perceived volume will jump up and down seemingly randomly.
I agree with the OP about volume settings as well. Send the most powerful signal possible to the speakers and turn down the volume at the speakers/headphones/TV/monitor.
Is it the same thing with headphones?

Seems really good soundbar. What is the monitor are you using for the games?
Not sure if small sound bar or big monitor. But this looks nice for the semi truck. Most bars are too wide to fit usefully. Would be able to put audio in and shut off the screen to go to bed on. I think it would be nice.
The soundbar is convenient and all, but I hope you'll someday review a big boy 5.1 or higher setup!

I have one of these, really great little box, takes up very little room on the desk. Great for when I don't want to put my headphones on.

@@dean9645 Yeah it's good. Just a pain that the optical input it only 2.0 which is limitation of the input type. Using the HDMI for 5.1 to input the sound can make windows think there is another monitor attached. Overall for its footprint its nice, clear voice option is great for RPGs too.

Ohh you never got a turn to play with the Sound Blaster Katana! Your guy’s video on that soundbar is one of the reasons I ended up buying it. I’m sure it will kick this soundbar in the teeth haha
The only comparison that could be made would be audio fidelity, but even that comes with an asterisk due to the katana being an older device and lacking features that the Panasonic has (hdmi and atmos for example)
As a side note, in the video of favored peripherals, the katana has remained as a sound bar for Eber(sp?) Though I don't know if they have gotten to play with the panasonic
The problem with speakers, well one that I haven’t spent much time finding a solution to, is using a mic while gaming. Seems like most if not all mics will pick up voices from your friends and game noise.
Headphones for gaming and courtesy, speakers otherwise.
Listen to how good this sound bar sounds. Proceeds to listen to it through my own speakers. Wow, my own speakers sound amazing. I wonder what that sound bar sounds like though?

Thanks for the review. I really appreciate the information about it creating a new Windows screen, and your windows getting lost in the void. One thing that REALLY annoys me is Windows is CONSTANTLY putting my windows on my 3rd screen, and I never ever leave any windows on that screen because 95% of the time it's turned off, but it's still obsessed with hiding my most frequently used windows over there. Grrr!

You can set any monitor as your main monitor. Are they replicated or extanded?
@@guillaumepare9651It's extended. And the monitor I use most is set as my main one. So I don't understand why it frequently puts windows on the 3rd screen that I never ever use on that screen.
this just reminds me of my sound blaster katana. it sounds great for big multiplayer games like bf1 and battlefront 2, and of course single player games like Resident Evil and so on - its terrible for competitive FPS like R6 siege and CS.
I swear, it seems like these competitive games are mixed solely for headphones because otherwise excellent audio devices go to pieces when handling those games.
For the price, I much prefer the JBL LSR305's that I've been using for the past 4 years. I can see the benefit if you're trying to get a certain look on your desk though.
I think studio monitors look way cooler on any desk anyway XD

You had Feniks Essence for a while, if I remember well. How does the sound bar compares to that?
the extra display issue will prob go away if you use optical cable. as far as I have researched, nvidia does not offer HDMI(ARC) support, so the only way to have sound on hdmi gpu port is to have a display connected.
It would be nice if in cinema mode it had an audio compression model as the dynamic range in most movies is ridiculous.

Same great sound as hdmi through graphics cards and no voids eating up, although if you run on 1080p you can screen copy the display port with a nvidia gtx1080

I'm considering getting either this or the Yamaha C20a sound bar for my gaming setup. I wanna pair one of them with a set of studio speakers, and a sub. Likely the Edifier T5 for the sub, and either the Edifier R2000DB, or Edifier R1280DBS for the speakers. Can you do a comparison of the Panasonic soundslayer and the Yamaha C20a or just a review of the Yamaha C20a? They are both really good compact sound bars, its just that the soundslayer has some nicer features, but is also almost double the price of the C20a if your buying them new.
What wireless keyboard are you using?

I have both they are both excellent. I'll give the edge to the Panasonic because of atmos and object based audio. That is a game changer doe me

Electronics lecturer told me years ago not to run amp, or any source really, at 100% as will distort. From what I recall, Best to put windows at 80-90% and then vary the amp output.

Good job Dmitri on flipping left and right for the viewers - pointing your right (our left) when you say left (3:54). You did miss at 3:49 but that only shows how hard this is to pull off perfectly.
Get a Kef LSX for your desktop. Imo nothing comes close to the sound staging when gaming with that. I literally pinpointed the sound of gunshots coming from BEHIND me, which was surprising considering that these are front facing speakers.

Been using Sonos soundbar on my pc for a long time now. optical out. I bought it to my tv but upgraded that one and had no use for the sonos.. :)
