- It’s been 36 years since hip-hop legends Salt-N-Pepa first dominated the music industry, and their new self-titled biopic sheds light on their iconic start. The famous duo opens up about their strained relationship with DJ Spinderella and reliving some of the group’s painful memories.

Salt and Pepa's tune is definitely changing because they are getting so much backlash from social media. You can tell Pepa got so irritated once Adrienne brought up Spin. Spin was a DJ yes, but throughout the years she was a part of the group, she was in videos, interviews, rapped on songs and present at award shows but it was obvious they pushed her out, which was not cool. Spin asked them on the Reality Show they had...and I quote, "Do you consider me the 'N' in the Salt N Pepa?" and they said no. That was wrong. Especially because she was more than a Dj...why have her accompany them to interviews and other appearances if she was "just a Dj"? She asked them to define and discuss her role moving forward and they didn't feel like they needed to. If she was looked at as an equal, it would've been no need to define anything. Anytime someone would book Salt-N-Pepa, you booked Salt, Pepa and Spinderella, all 3..no questions asked. Just like there is no Run DMC without Jam Master Jay and that's it🙅🏾♀️. Not cool Salt and Pepa! They'll be eating humble pie sooner than later. Oh and side bar...they should've did the movie on BET (including Spin) because at least it would've been longer and they would've probably been offered a 5-part series to tell more of their story like New Edition. Just my thoughts. 🤷🏾♀️

I agree with that their movie should have been in the same caliber as Striaght outta Compton but I agree it could have been made into a part 5 limited series with BET or Netflix. @@brigjay123 she is in the movie, they chose not to focus on her character, but the bond between Salt and Pep and since they are the ones making the movie that is within their right. They are not obligated to consult her when they are not making a movie about her. That aside, Salt says that she did reach out to Spin, but Spin did not respond. And Pep says in this video that they both actually did reach out to her to consult about the movie, disputing Spin's allegation. Instead of responding to Salt's attempt at contact, Spin instead chose to "deal" with it in the press and social media.

I was thinking the same thing. Bc every interview I saw after the movie they were straight dissing spin. I understand if she was just a DJ but in reality from what I saw they did lead her on as if she was a member. Why have her rap or write any music if she was just a DJ. She should've been in the DJ booth and not performing, writing or producing any music. Even doing interviews with them. I get all three sides in a way. Salt and pep wanted the movie to be about them and their friendship. But them being entertainers involved spin bc she was and is apart of their legacy. And spin wanted it to be known that they made her more then a DJ but when it comes to getting them coins and being apart of stuff she wasn't included and was treated as just a DJ and was told by them she wasn't even an employee. I would be pissed too. They just said she's their sis then if Thats the case why didn't they reach out to her for this interview. They even said in a interview a week or two ago they don't have nothing to talk about ir fix with her. Love the music but at this point they are full of shiii

No one would ever have done this to Jam Master Jay. Spin was the reason I even cared for salt and pepa. Whether she was the initial dj or not, she played an integral part in that group. If you watched ‘Ladies Night’ which was a reality show that aired about two years ago, the group with Spinderella when in depth about her involvement with the group. She was planning on suing them then. I think Spinderella was an intricate part of the group as well and should’ve been included in some aspect, but it’s much easier to split the pie two ways then three.
The biggest issue appears to be how Salt and Pepa view Spinderlla contribution group versus his Spinderlla views the contribution. Accessory vs Necessity!

Especially since they put Spin in the front participating in Vids, interviews and photo shoots. I watched the interview with Donnie Simpson on Video Soul..they were like a Sisterly Trio! As a younglady teen growing up with no siblings seeing these Queens 👸🏽 felt like being apart of that sisterhood through their music!!!! They expressed volumes in the lyrics and the videos and whole group package was just motivational. It was an Era of male dominated rappers n their DJ’s SnP and Spinderella was needed and an Epic Asset to Hip Hop!!

If I was Spin I would pay them dust. They treated her like she was “the help”. Like they were her boss and she had to get their permission for everything. All of THEM came together because of Herb and when they negotiated his leave, it was just a contract for them two and Spin not being savvy believed that they would eventually amend the contract to include her since she appeared as in rapping on 15 songs. She helped elevate their brand. Salt is a snake and so is Pepa. Spinderella is a beautiful person and never deserved any of it. I will never ever support anything they do, I don’t care if Salt is a Pastor, they had this woman as part of the group for 30 years and humiliated her, degraded her and put themselves on a pedestal over her. I actually would like to see All of them at the table on the becoming of this group their Legacy...Herbie Luvbug-Producer because it was his Visionary-Creation in the 1st place! As a teenager when SnP music was being played on the radio 📻 I didn’t know there was a DJ because my radio station from what I recalled didn’t mention DJ Spin. Then when I saw the video I was like okay that’s cool their DJ is wearing the 8ball SnP jacket too! Only looked at her as a DJ then just like Run DMC and Jam Master Jay. The difference is on the Radio and TV Run DMC MADE SURE WE AS THE FANS KNEW WHO JAM MASTER JAY WAS! So I’m not getting why back to Hurby again..why it wasn’t stamp on EVERY SONG, Introduction and Performances SnP with DJ Spin? It was there but it was spotty. It didn’t seem like Spin was a “Permanent Stamp” like how the other Male DJ’s were in the Hip Hop game. Push It Video shows the DJ skills, later came more from her which was awesome 🤩 for the group so I’m certainly not understanding why she was ousted like that after 30yrs. She’s apart of the Hip Hop History linked to S&P for Life no matter what. I’ve never had a chance to attend any of their concerts and without Spin it’s not gonna be the same.💔
Spindarella was brought into the group after Salt N Peppa signed to the record label. Spindarella signed her contract separate from the rest of the group, unfortunately her contract paid her less.
I think they were jealous of Spinderella because she was the Best looking 🙂.It is Spinderella that is a Big Part.Cheryl always talking about God if she really has a Sincere good Heart and Mind she would clear the High School Childish act up.
Well, they need to find a way to mend that fence with Spin because life is short. We just lost Prince Markie D (RIP). ..
If Spinderella was just a D.J..... why didn't she know her position then??🤔🤔🤔🤔 because technically if you are "only" a D.J. and not part of the group... You would have did many many many shows/concerts without her. On that reality show Spinderella asks if I'm the N in Salt N Pepa... so that let's you know she thought she was apart of the group

I love Salt and Pepa and Spinderella but the body language that they have say it all I feel they was told to keep a smile on their face and this whole interview was rehearse and staging to make them look good ... I don’t think it’s all what it’s supposed to be. Something just doesn’t sound Genuine

I mean I love the positivity they’re showing but I see both sides... cuz Spin I’m sure was like as a third group member was left out not only in this but just also being younger it’s like damn has it always been this way despite the sisterhood they did form over time while working together... but I’m sure there was a conversation had... she probably just wasn’t ready or fully committed to do so and then when it came out it was like damn they didn’t want to wait on me... so she’s feeling a way ! who knows since they agreed to agree to disagree... knowing she actively suing ... they might pay her and keep it peaceful and just try to move past it

no she's not suing them. she sued them in the past and they reached a settlement

Love Love that this story is getting told but I have no desire to show it without Spin. Any filmmaker that knows and loves hip hop history and has an appreciation for the dynamics of groups would know why it was so important to have Spin included. So I blame the network too. This could’ve been a great moment for hip hop to commemorate that golden time and this group as the sound of a generation, but instead it’s marred in controversy and exclusion. Ava can you pair up with Jay or Puff or Latifah or all of y’all and let’s get these women together make a real homage of their story, influence on hip hop and incredible force that was Salt-n-Pepa w/Spin and show the world (and ourselves) the power that comes from forgiveness, inclusion and telling our own stories on our own platforms. Lifetime ain’t it...not for this (sorry, not sorry).

She was NOT part of the group. Spin never had ownership in the company, which made her an employee. Period.

On that last episode of Ladies Night when they all sat down to talk Salt addressed a few issues that came up from over the 30 yrs they had been together and apparently wanted them all to forget about it and just focus on the SnP Brand which it seems like from the movie Hurby LuvBug the Creator/Producer n more was very good at drilling in this message into his Act back in the day. I wonder 💭 if Run DMC was ever asked to perform or interview somewhere without Jam Master Jay and how that turned out or any of the Rap Groups back then.
The main thing is Salt did state in their tv discussion, After Spin left the 1st time when she returned after a few years to group-business: SnP Productions the Expectations and Roles they requested of her was supposedly explained to her.
Spin’s entry into the group by Hurby and a contract separate from SnP the 1st time and then Again after Hurby’s departure has a lot to do with her Role with the group.
They All Grew over time..the Brand Grew which is natural to happen...creative differences for sure but that damn “Business Contract” in what you do says what you are obligated and how you will get paid is the final stamp on it..meaning Spin came back to Bosses making all the decisions and she was an addition just like how Hurby brought her in the 1st time. Who knew these Beautiful 🤩 Women would turn Legendary like this? It hurts.👸🏽💔 The confusion of not knowing what the group is doing is even worse.
To me from the biopic, Hurby wanted a DJ in the group for the look like Run DMC and JMJ but when he lost the 1st Original DJ Spin, he acted like the DJ’s role wasn’t gonna be that important to the fans. Like as long as they have a DJ that’s all that matters for “Appearances” nothing more or less. I’m sure more is to be told on that story. And I would like to see more of Both DJ’s stories highlighted on this and women DJ’s in it’s entirety in the Hip Hop Music World.
I don’t want to believe this was a house built on sticks for over 30 yrs with SnP especially for women empowerment to fall and evaporate because their videos, interviews and countless shows clearly show how Happy and Vibing in sisterly spirit & love they exemplified to the World and their FANS.🌹🌹🌹🌹

They didn t answer the question : the movie could have been bigger than just Salt n 0epa the band.. But all that concerns the band, it has to involve Spinderella...man, she was djing, rapping, dancing, performing in videos.. She was a part of the trio and as such that, it should have been represented....

They are wrong for doing Spin like that. One of there biggest hits" What a Man." she was on that song. The fans like the group as a whole. Didn't seem genuine.
