    This was super encouraging for me to go out and get the panel line accent; I figured a marker would be safer but the enamel wash just looks better. Thanks for all the tips

    Thank you for this video, for the first ~12mo of my gunpla building have been using panel line markers thinking it seemed like the "precise" way to do it, but picked up a bottle of panel line accent and tried it out and wow does capillary action do a cleaner and more precise job than my shaky hand and that pen nib ever could. This and your weathering and panel line removal tutorials are really helping me step my builds up to the next level!

    Awesome video, thank you for making it! The only other thing I would mention (I also just use my finger to clean up) is IF the ink isn’t being absorbed or wiped away (silver is bad for this and certain plastics seem to hold on to ink more) would be to use a small amount of the Gundam marker eraser *on* your finger. I personally use a cotton tip with surface cleaner for application, then use my finger for clean up but it will be absorbed into the skin and it is toxic. Thank you again for making this, I was wondering why some of my panel lining looked good and some didn’t and now I know there’s different types of panel lines and what all the different suggested applicators do. I’ve been using the big marker since my fourth kit and have always wondered why sometimes I waste more ink than necessary. It’s because I should be using a different applicator 😂

    I'm SUPER new to this hobby (at least in any serious capacity - been building since I was young), so thank you so much for sharing this. I just got done panel lining a HY-GOGG kit with a market, I was intimidated by the paints. Now I feel way more confident that I can handle it.
    Although it was time consuming, I do recommend newbies use a marker first just to get that foundational experience and build patience. My next kit will absolutely be done using both techniques. And I'll totally admit to being a color snob, so I'll be buying the 4-pack accent kit. Hahaha
    As an aside, I wasn't totally impressed with the Gundam markers, for whatever it's worth. I ended up using Micron 005 markers and they've worked fine.

      I'm new to gunpla building
      Very intresting history ; scales etc
      I'm building the new nu gundam RG
      Its a solid version than the MG
      And the wings doesnt fallout (seeing from a review)
      I'm using my garage tools since my order for my tools is taking ages to arrive due to the second wave on china of covid
      I have a bigger side cutter (made for cutting electric cables, it works fine for the gunpla
      But the cutterr knife i'm using its time consuming
      But i dont have something decent to polish
      I only have P100, P250ish so after testing it it left horrible marks
      I guess i have to wait for my tools after all since i want to clean polish the tiny pieces before the leg asamble since many parts are from the outside armor and i dont wanna polish when its fully build
      I did enjoy the first 2hours of stress cutting hopping i dont fk up xD the cutting part with the knife is easy its the polish part that worries me
      Other than that love building it cant wait till its finished

    The Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color is definitely a time saver to effectively and efficiently do panel lining on GunPla.
    I used to use the marker but they don't last long, and they end up being more expensive.
    Also, it's more time consuming.
    I wouldn't suggest using your fingers to absorb this stuff. Even if it's not too bad for you, you don't want to accumulate chemicals unnecessarily right?
    You make a good point about the osmosis effect.
    But if you're careful, then you can use the Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color and not encounter that osmosis type of effect.
    Also, what you do is you use the Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color, let it dry a bit, and then use a little bit of enamel thinner to clean up the excess very effectively.

    • @xxnike0629xx
      @xxnike0629xx 6 лет назад +2

      Exactly.
      It's cheaper to use the Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color, it's quicker and more efficient to use it, and it takes less clean up time.

    Quick question: Since the Tamiya accent panel line is prediluted/pre-thinned, will the solvent inside it harm the plastics or make the plastics brittle over time when used directly on the kit? Some say it's fine to use them directly without any primer/topcoat, some say it WILL ruin the plastics. I'm confused.

    What if I’m not painting the model can I just do the paneling with the Tamiya accent ? And wouldn’t the thinner take off the paint from the model?

    • @BoundByGundams
      @BoundByGundams  4 года назад +1

      The model in the tutorial isn’t painted... I stated that. The thinner won’t as long as you don’t use too much, leave it on too long, or if paint is completely dried and cured.

      I think its recommended to add a gloss top coat first because of the chemical composition making the plastic brittle.

      One common alternative to Q-Tips I've seen for clearing out smudges like that is to use an eraser instead, which is harder than a Q-Tip yet soft enough to not damage the plastic.
