A fun fact for the majority US audience: in Ireland and the UK we call an eraser a 'rubber' (in that its made of plastic/rubber-like material) but I understand that's slang for something else in the US!! Hope Mrs Rex is feeling much better too 🙂
As an American living in the uk- this is good to know lol
Had a English exchange student as a suite mate in college. He was asking for a rubber one night and was shocked when he was given a condom.
So good. Between this and your top coat video from a while back, my gunpla game has improved exponentially
Glad I could help
I swear I don't understand how you're not past the million subscriber mark, definitely the best hobby paint and accessory channel.
Erasers have been my go to for clean up since I started panel lining my kits.
But I cannot believe I never considered an electric eraser... I'll definitely have to check one out.
Robert never ceases to amaze me with his creative adaptations of strange and obscure unrelated gadgets and technologies to the modeling hobby. Thanks for all you do! 👍
I was using india ink and quill pens for highlighting panel lines when Nixon was still president. But the info on erasing was really helpful.
Thanks!😢
Very impressive, thank you this is going to help me improve my work immensely. As always you never cease to amaze me.
Hope the Mrs. is progressing. 😎
Moving to erasers made clean up so much quicker, since lot of it just required a few wipes to get rid of smudges. Also, helps avoid the number of times I'd accidentally wipe away the panel line when I used alcohol or whatever solution.
I'm fan of the pencil like erasers.
Great video Rob, keep em coming, i'll keep watching.
Very cool! That is literally the first time I have heard of that technique!
Wow I never knew about this technique for cleaning up panel liners! Thanks for the info!!
Paul from NB Canada. Thanks for the great items you come up with. I always like these videos!
Just when I was looking for info on how to start panel lining properly! Thank you
I use those nib pens in comic book illustrations. When I break in a new nib I always hit it the tip with a lighter. They put a anti rust coating on it and the ink can bead up on that coating.
Those white erasers and electric are just like the ones I used when I did drafting on the old drafting board.
Such a simple idea but I never thought of it so thanks! Always educational info here.
You're welcome buddy
Boy that's great I was skeptical about the old school pen tips for panel lining. Nice! Hope your wife is better and that nightmare is over best wishes my dude.
Great video. I have an electric eraser left over from my drafting days. Gonna look into the pen. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for this. Didn't know the eraser trick! Cool idea to panel line with those ink pens.
Awesome video, I use the Zippo too to clean the panel liner.
As per usual more great tips and tools THANX
Was just on Amazon looking for panel lining stuff. I was looking at exactly the same red pen. Synchronicity.
You deserve all the views you get and even more
Thank you my friend
A nice little informative video Thanks for your time
Thanks for the video, i for one had no idea there were electric erasers. :))
Nice. I'll need to order that pen
Great video!!!!!
I just thought of this this AM. If, say, you need to add electrical power to a hobby project but have no room for wires, dollhouse hobbyist use copper strips attached to adhesive tape. It's use to add lighting to rooms in a dollhouse. It's flat and is hidden under wall paper. It's a great way to help put LED's in a space where there is no room for wires.
80,000 is a full stadium full of people. Congratulations!
I wouldn’t have guessed there was such a thing! 🖖🏼
The eraser is great if you are panel lining over bare unpainted plastic but stick to thinner or mineral spirits if panel lining over a painted model
Yes I did mention that in the video 👍
I ended up getting the dspaie liner tool when I ordered your enamel liners. Must have used it wrong the first time back on a MG Gyan, since I had quite the spills on some parts. Going to stick with the cleaner with those swabs you recommended previously, but this was good info to know.
I do love the liners though, feels like I am putting more effort into my builds then just using the gundam fine tip markers, though there are times I still find myself using them.
Don't load up the pen with a lot of liner. If you do just tap the pen on the side of the jar and clear some out. There's a technique to it that once you get it down it's easy
Fyi, you are using the pen wrong. You must have the "open" end facing down. The top is the smooth part with the hole.
As you apply more pressure it opens the split in the end to let more ink out.
I use the dispae one
I like the pencils. Not really sure about the power eraser. The pens sound like a good idea. Thanks for the look at them.
I find the method I use to clean panel lines depends on the type of panel liner I use. Panel line pens and Gundam pour type markers I use an eraser or my finger, but Tamiya panel liner needs rubbing alcohol.
you can clean up the excess or panel liner with lacquer thinner if the model is painted with lacquer paint but me I decided to use acrylic paint for cars. What panel liner should I use and with what I can remove the excess without removing the acrylic paint of the car?
Faber-Castell makes the eraser pencils in both soft (pink colour) and in hard (white colour).
Nice product review. I would like to see how the eraser would work on a painted part.
In the video I recommend not using it on paint as it would surely remove it
I have a pen handle holder that holds those same eraser nubs that is kind of like an exacto knife handle that I use. I feel that the electric version looks like it keeps getting away from you a lot which would frustrate me.
A question about your panel liners: Do you have colors suitable for doing brick mortar on N-Scale structures for model railroads? I didn't see any grays or beiges in this video. Don't know what I nee to do different, but on you store I saw only T shorts and no paint products.
Love your videos and product reviews. Also many thanks for our help several months ago when I was looking for adapters to fit my air hose to Paasche, Badger and Neoeco airbrushes. Got them all working with your help!
I have a grey panel liner in my line up. They're available at Gundam Pros,, they should be back in stock by the weekend if they don't have them
Thanks for the video. In your recommendation, when panel lining do you apply the panel line before or after clear coat? Also... hope the wifey is doing well!
Before
It's so sad, that I can't buy your panel line enamels here in Austria... would love to! :D
I cant watch this channel on payday anymore. now I need an electric eraser.
please forgive my novice question, but I just started in this hobby and am working on my first airplane kit. At what stage do you panel line. After primer and paint, but before clear top coat? Thanks for any advice.
Either way will work fine. I'd go after the top coat
I heard applying top coat before pane lining would be good for the plastic, is it really needed in your opinion? lets say i want a gundam to last longer after panel lining
I personally never had a problem with on the plastic.
Also, when getting pointed cotton swabs, which ones are your favorite?
These are my favorite
amzn.to/3sQqH1m
My method is this:
Line the kit while still on the runners
Build the kit
Remove the excess with zippo lighter fluid
That's different if the kit is being painted, of course
Is there a white panel liner? Does it go over black well?
Yes I released my own line of Panel Liners, 10 Colors in all including white. It covers great. Check out the video on them here

I have the dspiae panel line pen, but I can't figure it how it works. also i dont see the link for the eraser pencil. thank you for all your hard work and great videos.
The link is up now
thank you sir.@@barbatosrex9473
Is it possible to buy the tool bits separately? I use a Dremel.
Im not sure. I didn't see them listed. But these are so cheap you might as well just buy it for the bits. I'm sure it would cost the same if you got them by Dremel
How do you remove panel liner if you model is painted?...With acrylics, with Tamiya, with lacquers etc
If you're using enamels like mine or Tamiya then either mineral spirits or lighter fluid
I use Vallejo paint and clear coat with either Future or other acrylic polyurethane. Because I've used an acrylic clear, my pin wash is done with artist oils thinned with turpenoid. If I need to do any cleanup, I lightly moisten a Q-tip with the turpenoid and gently use it to clean up any errant pin wash. Once all of the pinwashing, dry brushing, and weathering is done, I'll clear coat with another coat of gloss or flat as the need requires.
I've been trying to find a way to remove water based acrylic off of lacquer for ages... I have had no success without damaging the lacquer underneath...
AFMAT!
RIP Gilbert
slightly off topic but what primer do you use with enamels
I've found you can use a variety of primer types, such as water based like Badger (which adheres to plastic very well) or solvent based like Mr. Hobby surfacer or surface primers, can give a smooth solid base using thin coats without marring the detail. Normally enamels can be used straight over plastic in general as they adhere very well, but if you are using it over different media such as resin and plastic or there are color issues to take into consideration they can be easily laid over primers or various types.
Any plans on selling your panel liners internationally? Yours is the only enamel that can be used on bare plastic that I know of
Why are you highlighting bare plastic?
@randytaylor1258 I'm confused by this is he top coating before adding panel liner? Doesn't enamel eat up plastic?
Will an eagle feather work? I know, I'm a wiseass. These look like calligraphy pens.
They are but they're very fine.
Hi guys. I hope all of you are doing well.
Well I am
Now do it on painted parts
guys.. dont use a dumb old rubber. eraser.. there are things called. enamel thinners. that are specifically made to CLEAN. enamel paint. IG. PANEL LINERS. Also. quick tip. lighter fluid also works great. if not better. because it dries off quicker than THINNERS such as water spirits. OR X20. dont make this hobby more difficult for yourself. with eraser residue all over your work station to clean up later.
aalso you dont have to m ake dumb "adjustments" by coloring with a white pencil.. use thinner or lighter fluid. thank me later.
Lighter fluid is the best
